I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it WAS a dev joke. They could have assigned the teams ANY colours, but they assigned these specific ones... also, since you usually have teammates from other alliances in BGs, that would lend even more weight to the joke. 1 -

✭✭✭✭✭OrangesRed, blue, and yellow are primary colors. That means that you cannot mix any other colors to make red, blue, or yellow.
Green, purple, and orange are secondary colors. Meaning, you have to mix two of the primary colors in order to make green, purple, or orange.
Original alliance colors are primary. BG team colors are secondary.
Knowing is half the battle.
