How to get higher Magicka?

Louis1505

Hey guys.

I have been trying to increase my Magicka to it to around 40K ish if possible. It is stuck at 38.5K right now abouts but i am not sure how else to increase it and how some people have way north of 45K? I run a 5 set Necropotence and a 5 set Mothers Sorrow along with a Willpower staff, everything purple, i also have the thief mundus stone. I have IIambris helmet and shoulders but havent used them yet as i would lose one on the bonuses for my other gear i think. I have read before it is recommended to use one craftable set and one overland type set along with a Monster set as then you wouldnt lose your bonus for any? Im worried about sacrificing spell crit for more Magicka but then i see people with BOTH really high aswell so im abit confused haha i must be going wrong somewhere😝 Any help is greatly appreciated, im CP 278 btw if that helps, sorry still new to the game sorry if this is a nooby post. Thanks again people!

My first piece of advice, dont worry about the raw number of your max magic so much. My mag sorc does 55k selfbuffed on a 6 mil dummy and my max magic is right where yours is, and my crit is around 50%. Max magic, spell damage, spell penetration, and spell crit ALL affect damage, so dont focus too much on any of them.

Also, remember that almost everyone lost some magic with the recent changes, as flat values from racial passives arent as good for stacking magic as % increases (which they have done away with). I would recommend dropping willpower to make room for your monster set. It is going to be more beneficial than the extra magic from willpower. Generally speaking, you want 2 5-piece sets and a monster set for almost any build. Sets like willpower can be useful for something like a back bar weapon if you dont really need both 5-piece bonuses on both bars, but that isnt the case with either necro or MS.

Ways to make your magic stat higher.

    - Switch to the mage mundus. That alone would get you over 40k. In PVP, it is my go to stone for magic sorc. In PVE, Shadow is generally your best bet since the last patch for damage.
    - Running Blue food (boost to magic and health). There is never a reason to not run food or drink in this game. your better option for most things is the purple witchmothers drink (max health, max magic, magic regen).
    - Make sure all your enchants are max magic. Use gold enchants, even on purple gear. Its the poor mans way to upgrade.
    - Make your big pieces (head, legs, chest) infused. I think all Divines is slightly better damage, but if looking to up your magic for whatever reason, this is a reasonable option.
    - Put all your attributes into magic, 99% of end game builds for both PVE and PVP (not counting tanks), dump all 64 points into their primary resource.
    - Might be obvious, but make sure you have a pet active if you are running necro. If not, your stats are going to suffer.
    - CP - Someone will have to verify the amount, but you get more stats the more CP you have up to a certain point. I think 278 is still under that threshold (meaning more CP is more stats), but I dont remember where the line is exactly.
    - Undaunted passives - This is a pretty big one as its still a percent based buff. You get 2% to all your stats to each type of armor you wear. On a magic character, wear 5 light, 1 medium, 1 heavy. If running Necro and mothers sorrow (both light sets), that means your shoulder and helm (illambris) need to be medium and heavy. Doesnt matter in the slightest as to which is which.
    - Swap mothers sorrow for something that gives a bit more magic. That is totally a judgement call. Necro +MS is a great set combo for PVE. It's not best in slot, but it will work just fine for any PVE content.
    - Slot mages guild abilities (and spend the passives) as these will increase your magic.
    - If sorc, slot bound aegis. (truth be told, my mag sorc in my trial build doesnt have the bar space for either).

But again, I wouldn't lose a lot of sleep if your max magic is below some arbitrary line in your head. Use proven sets, make them gold (or at least use gold enchants), eat food, get the appropriate passives, spend your attribute points and your stats will be what they will be.

    Did you eat some food?
Taking stealth away from the Bosmer is like taking magic away from the Altmer, making Nords allergic to mead, or making Orcs pretty.

Are you using food that grants max magicka? I feel like your max magicka should be higher than that with your build. You could always change your mundus to Mage if all else fails.

You could run infused trait on one or more of your "full" armor pieces (legs, chest, head).

Some classes have skills that raise an atribute.

My pet Sorcerer has two such skills slotted, giving +5% and +8% Maximum Magicka.

Do you have something like Inner Light and/or Bound Aegis on your bar? Those give buffs to max magicka. Do you have all 64 attribute points in Max Magicka? Do you have 300 or more Champion Points?

you wont cap out your stats until you hit CP300

"use one craftable set and one overland type set along with a Monster set as then you wouldnt lose your bonus" this is bogus - you can use any combination or overland/crafted/dungeon drops you want and you'll still get the bonuses

Max magicka (or any resource) is only a piece of the puzzle in this game

I dont claim this to be my build or anything, but on mag sorc, this is what I am doing this patch. Its great ST DPS, Decent AOE, and you have great survivability with the pet. Truthfully, you can "heal" most 4 man content with this build if your group is decent. You also really have 2 flex spots so you can run both power surge and a shield if you want.

Gear: 5 Perfected Siroria, 5 Mechanical Acuity (front bar), VMA Destro back bar, 2 Zaan. All Divines, and Bloodthirsty for traits, all max magic and spell damage enchants for glyphs. Max damage seems to be front bar fire, back bar shock enchant both infused, but I typiclaly go front bar shock and back bar absorb magic. Its a 1k ST DPS loss for close to 300 effective regen, so its really a no brainer. If your blockade up time is good, you will typically get a few more ticks of your backbar enchant on a long parse. Both fire staffs.

    Bars:
-Front: Elemental Weapon, Crystal Frags, Twilight Matriarch, Daedric Prey, Mages Wrath, Meteor
-Back: Liquid Lighting, Elemental Blockade, Twilight Matriarch, Trap/channeled focus (minor force), Flex (shield, Elemental Drain for parsing, power surge, etc.), Attro

    Mundus: Shadow

Food: Blue Health+Magic. I am a breton and with a back bar absorb magic glyph, your sustain is just fine. I can sustain a 6 mil with no additional support, although typically when I parse, I use parse food.

Blue CP: 64 Elemental Expert, 61 Elfborn, 42 Spell Erosion, 19 Staff Expert, 56 Master at Arms, 28 Thaumaturge. That is probably a little heavy into spell erosion if you are in a fully buffed raid, but for solo, 4 man or if you are doing things like downstairs in VCR, a little extra pen is worth it IMO. In a fully buffed raid, I am close to 20k pen with this setup, so you could definitely put a few points elsewhere.

The rotation is essentially 100% dynamic. Keep everything up, your first priority is always a frag proc. Make sure not to over cast Daedric prey or you will miss the boom. At 20%, replace elemental weapon with Mages wrath. Truthfully, a sorc execute is BARELY worth it as it scales so low. If you need another flex spot, this is it, or you can just run bound aegis here. I never cast the twilight unless I need a heal, and it still does like 6k DPS. Attro is the best single target ultimate (and your melee will love you for it thanks to Major Berzerk). I typically use meteor in trash. You could also front bar the attro and back bar the destro ult for more AOE.

@Oreyn_Bearclaw In your view, is the Twilight Tormentor not worth using over the Matriarch? Also, is the Matriarch more DPS than the scamp?

Haven't played pet sorc in PvE since Horns of the Reach so I'm confused by all these different pet sorc setups.

Last I heard the tormentor was actually bugged, but I havent tested it recently. It comes down to the simple fact that the matriarch is essentially free passive damage and the heal is phenomenal if you need it. For example, i am not sure I could do the downstairs of VCR+3 without it on my sorc. I believe the twilight matriarch is actually more ST DPS right now than the scamp, but the scamp is obviously better AOE (and requires you to cast on cooldown). I havent done extensive testing to be honest in a long time on pet sorc. I just know that everyone and their mother is running the twlight matriarch this patch.

I would call this old news rather than bogus, but we are probably splitting hairs. It used to make sense because we wanted a craftable set for easy access to weapons in a good trait and we wanted a dropped set for access to jewelry. But now that we can both trait change and craft jewelry, this doesnt really apply any longer. Necro + MS is a perfectly acceptable combo for any magic sorc as a PVE DPS. The only way you are going to beat it by any significant margin is with a trail set.
