Full clarity I only really care about the illumination, even if it did 0 damage and had no other effects I'd keep one in my inventory. The rest is just to make it more interesting, give it added utility, and keep it consistent with the game world by having it work similar to guard torches. Also to make up for the fact that you're basically sacrificing a skill bar to use it.
Is it just me or does this game get really dark at night and in some dungeon/delve area, like pitch black. And I like that, it adds to the atmosphere, makes traveling at night feel creepy and a lil scary. But when I'm constantly getting caught on terrain or running into frigging trees while I'm out doing maps or collect skyshards and materials it gets pretty frustrating. I think this would be a cool way to deal with all that while maintaining the atmosphere of nightfall.
