Skip main story from Crossing the Chasm, what do I miss?

I am thinking about skipping the main story from the point to which I got, namely Crossing the Chasm. The reason is , is that I would like to play the game more explorative and more like "now I want to go there, and go there and do side quests" . Etc.

But what do I miss from skipping the last part of this main story? Am I unable to enter certain area's? I read in older posts something about Coldwell silver quests? I am not sure if that is relevant today because this was a post from 2015 that mentioned this?

Since One Tamriel, you're not restricted from going anywhere based on your quest progress. You'll obviously miss out on seeing how the main quest ends, although you can always read about it if you want to know, and there may be some bits of dialogue here and there that would refer to events that happen that you won't see because they haven't happened for you yet.

Cadwell's Silver and Gold quests enable you to complete the main zone quests for the other alliances, and are no longer necessary as you now have access to those areas anyway. You only get offered those quests on completing the main story and they do have their own rewards.

There's no time limit on completing the main story so you can always leave it for now and come back to it if and when you feel like it.

You'll miss references from NPC's in later DLC's that were in Coldharbour, sometimes they're in side quests, sometimes they're a part of main questlines, Cadwell will be a part of the main storyline for Elsweyr it seems and he'll probably have some things to say about the original main quest. If you don't mind characters not recognizing you even though you've met them then it should be fine, but if you want the full dialogue with them then you may want to finish the last parts of the main quest.

Otherwise, you're free to explore any zone at any time regardless of order. Even coldharbour, you can teleport to a friend to get to on a level 1 character fresh out of the tutorial - you can even teleport to some of the quest-locked wayshrines in the Coldharbour zone that way, funnily enough.

If you've suffered through Coldharbour to the point of Crossing the Chasm, go for it. The main quest gets pretty epic again at the end. :)
