Admit it, you would also love to have the serial killer and the criminal mastermind on your side rather than working against you ;)

I don't ever play a race exactly according to lore. I incorporate the lore using my own head-canon. So my Dunmer aren't slavers, and are generally (in my backstories) from families (non-Dres, non-Telvanni - and with made up surnames) which are minor folk in the world of the Dunmeri Great Houses.

If we had a "real" Morag Tong instead of the DB.... well, I'd probably have at least one girl who was playing that. I don't do the TG or DB in any of the ES games. I just.... do what's fun for me, make backstories for all my toons, and play the games.

even if they were from a slaver family they could be more like Ilmeni Dren or Velsa. who are from families with slavery and like. Not for it.

Ilemni Dren is also the leader of the Twin Lamps and her family is one of the biggest in slavery in TES:III and Twin Lamps is an anti-slavery organization.

I'm surprised there's not more slavery in Tamriel. IRL human history is full of slavery. Almost every country that went to war with another country practiced it in one way or another. Why kill the captives when you can put them to work.

I don't mind if you dislike the Dunmer. However, if you dislike Dunmer in favor of the Altmer, then we're going to have a big problem.

I bet any race used captives from other race or even from their own race for hard labor in mines etc. You may see it in ESO in ton of delves.

Altmer, Ayleids and Dunmer all openly practiced slavery. That's not the same as individual members of other races doing it or things akin to it.

Slavery is illegal in real world civilized nations today but still happens. That doesn't make those real world civilized nations just as bad as historical nations like the US which openly practised slavery. The two cannot be equated.
Same for bosmer, only very traditionalist feral bosmers stick to that tradition, all more civilized ones don't do it on regular basis and most often don't eat sentient life at all.

I think you missed the point.

In the real world we're taught that cannibalism is evil. Our eating animals is ok though. God meant that for us. They don't feel pain. They're not sentient. Etc. etc. I don't buy that and neither do many others.

Truthfully we're taught that cannibalism is evil because to the people who make up our lessons, we're their slaves with a thin illusion of freedom. You can't have your slaves killing and eating each other. That would be grossly inefficient. Most people would not be pleased if their toaster ate their coffee grinder.

A corpse is just dead flesh. No more harm can be done to it. Allowing any corpse to go to waste which would then require some other animal to be killed for food means a lot of needless death. Every slain enemy eaten = less killing. Bosmer are the ultimate conservationists.

When they began interacting more with other nations who had real world like attitudes towards cannibalism, the practice would have become problematic. Their prime directive is to protect Valenwood. Getting along nicely with other nations serves that goal and in that context, cannibalism no longer does.

I have five Dunmer and my wife has four Dunmer. She does an amazing Dunmer accent. All I can say is: visit the Ebony Flask in Ebonheart… then you'll see why Dunmer are the sexy, appealing type. ;)

I like them because they're one of the most versatile races (besides Argonian, Khajiit, and Imperial- since the new race changes) and they have a sense of honor. Yes, there were slavers (which I abhor) but they also have Dunmer that seek justice like the Scarlet Judge (ie: the freakin' Batman of Dunmer).

Also, as mentioned before: Drizzt Do'Urden is a nat 20 in my book. (If you don't get this reference- you haven't lived life.)
Want to enjoy the game more? Try both PvP (crybabies) and PvE (carebears). You'll get a better perspective on everyone's opinion.

Cant stand how ugly they are. Doesnt help that they had two huge content dedicated towards them aka morrowind and clockwork. Had to see them a lot whenever I run HOF or vas

The minute high elves and bretons became great races for magicka dps, switched all mine over. Not to mention they have ugly ass voices too.

I've always played dunmer in every TES game since Daggerfall. It definitely comes from my DnD days and the drow, and since then it just evolved into a personal preference regarding in-game performance, lore and general sexiness.

I honestly can't stand most of the Altmer, either XD as someone who plays mostly Khajiit and Argonians all the insults get very tiring. There are a few cool Altmer, though, just as there are a few nice Dunmer - my favorite Altmer is this one banker in Alinor who's always so excited to see me.

Yeah, out of all the reasonings people have that one is not helpful to me at all. I don't care if a character looks pretty or not - to me it's their personality that counts. I knew making this thread I was going to get some comments like that, but thankfully there have been some very good reasonings in here as well!
