Class and build advice?

mashugana

I just got my first ESO character to 50, a Mag Sorc that relied heavily on Destro Staff and Lightning AOE to burn things down and the heal from Twilight Matriarch to keep me alive. Can you suggest a build for my next character that you found fun to play?

I'm looking for:
  • PVE only
  • a somewhat sturdy build that can take a hit because I am really terrible at ESO :)
  • good for overland leveling, questing, farming
  • ability to solo hard things in case I want to solo dungeons or other content
  • ability to either tank or heal in 4 man content - I enjoy both but I am not crazy about being just dps
  • good mix of single target damage for hard bosses and AOE for farming
  • fun, cool, or rewarding looking abilities
  • not nesecary to be good for end game or min/max

I'm open to Stamina or Magika, any class, any weapon. I love MMOs and my main tends to be my 'jack of all trades' that can do any content well but is not exceptional in any one role. I want to try different combat and playstyles too.

This game is so much fun but the sheer number of options is overwhelming. Thanks for any advice.

My Sorcerer build has all the requirements you have there and solo 4 man dungeons all the time (Very fast at that) and am able to do all the other content as well easy. As you already have a sorcerer built; I would suggest what my friend runs...A Templar.

His is setup to use Stamina and it is very tough in fights as he has the heals built in to the class skills with Magicka as needed. From what I have seen he really holds his own with the Sword and Shield/Dual Wield build he has setup.

He seems to use a mix of light and medium armor but mostly medium.
"Wonderful! Time for a celebration... Cheese for everyone!"

If anything I would not recommend stamina much if you don't want to get involved with pvp (the best team support stamina heal comes from there, and of course, caltrops) so any mag class really, they can all be more or less sturdy, just remember to keep your DoTs ticking.

You might want to try a magicka Templar. It fits the bill for most of what your are looking for.

I would suggest getting a few hundred CP under your belt before rolling another character (at least get to the gear cap, CP160). They are account bound, and can be used by low level characters, but you dont gain them if you are under level 50. So if you where to say get 300 CP on your mag sorc, you can use them when you start a second character, which makes you more powerful and frankly opens up some options. But if you were to level 15 toons to level 50 back to back, you would have no CP at the end of the process.

If you dont care about CP and are interested in making a second character, well, my advice is make one of each before you double up on any class, and you already have a sorc. If support is your goal (healing and tanking), then I would suggest a Templar or a DK. You can certainly be a tank or healer on any class, but as a general rule, Templars are the best healers and DKs are the best tanks. You could also consider a Warden, as they are probably second best at both. NBs make great damage dealers (arguably the best), but they are the hardest to play by a good margin IMO.

I would probably give the edge to Templar over DK for an all around PVE class, but both fit your particular bill. They can heal, provide great DPS at both range and melee, and they do really well solo. They also make reasonable tanks for 4 man content. You could clear the entire main quest with just the skill Puncturing Sweep. Its an AOE spammable that does great damage and heals you at the same time. DKs I think are a little trickier to play effectively. They are more of a brawler class and generally require juggling a fair amount of buffs and DOTs.

I usually think its a better idea to start with magic on a class before you try the stamina version. Stamina versions of really any class are generally a bit harder to play with fewer options in playstyle becuase there just arent that many class skills with stamina morphs. If you are unsure which way you want to go, just make the character a dumner, which is the best all around race after the patch.

A magic Templar is the easy button for this game.

My advice would be to get your first character to CP160, which will happen quicker than you think. Then, all the gear you farm is max level. Also, any alts that you level to 50 are at your CP Cap.

Then, roll one character in each class. Thus way you can ride the ebbs and flows, such as they are, of class balance changes
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Solid advice. Magplar is definitely easy mode, but pet sorc aint far behind.

Dk when it comes to rewarding. They got the awesomeness locked down. Tanky, flasy moves powerful self heals. Not the greatest party healer unless you spec for it though.

    My suggestion:

    Class - Nightblade
Race - Dumner - great max magicka, spell damage, and extra stamina for blocking/rolling.
    Attributes- 64 Magicka

    Equipment
    - 5x War Maiden OR Spinner's
    - 5x Bright Throat's Boast
    - 1x Chokethorn
    - 1x Domihaus

    Armor Enchantments
    - 7x Prismatic

    Jewelry Enchantments
    - 1x Magicka Recovery
    - 2x Spell Damage

Front Bar (Flame Staff, Berserker Enchantment)
    - Swallow Soul
    - Inner Light
    - Merciless Resolve
    - Entropy (Both morphs are good for this build as long as you light attack weave, otherwise structured entropy only.)
    - Elemental Drain
    - Soul Tether (Oh crap! button for AoE emergencies, can be swapped for Shooting Star if preferred)

Back Bar (Lightning Staff, Absorb Magicka enchantment)
    - Sap Essence
    - Siphoning Attacks
    - Harness Magicka
    - Elemental Blockade
    - Twisting Path
    - Veil of Blades (Great preemptive offensive-defensive ability)

There are going to be some limitations for you because of your lvl. Most players who have just hit 50 arnt able to do alot of what your looking for. Especially the solo'ing part.

Its hard to give you a good pick because of the scope your looking for. You want a jack of all trades basically. id try a templar, warden or dk. There on the tankier side. Aoe and single target is really going to come from how you build vs what class you pick. Both stam and mag can be build for aoe and single target. If you like tanking more i would go stam, if you like healing then go mag.

damn, should have read your whole post..my bad. But yea, check out Xy;s site anyways....you might find something you like! AS others have mentioned Templar is a good choice and his Off-Balanced build is another powerful and fun one! ;)
    Good luck!

Another vote for magplar. You can do a lot with a single skill, Puncturing Sweeps, but it's a fun class overall. Whether you are a healer or a DPS, everyone likes a templar in the group, cause you throw them shards. Quite easy to do vMA with too.

In terms of self-healing / soloing capabilities, a stamsorc is probably the next closest class, but not one that would make a good tank or healer, whereas templars make good healers.

Stamina Warden is actually pretty good at survivability for a stamina class, they have class stamina heals.

They also have top DPS atm. I feel like they have a smoother playstyle than other classes because they were designed for the current game.

They are also top tier tanks and its actually possible to stamina heal (but its weird).

If you want to be versatile than Imperial is the best for this but Redgaurd (Melee) and Bosmer (Ranged) also good

First get some CP in that character, push it to 160cp so your loot is on the loot level cap, then make Stamina Templar , bow/2h Redguard with Gold armor so you can make him look like freaking Idris Elba playing Heimdall.
