Find a ballgroup to run with, then come here to the forums and complain about how overpowered catapults and oil are (were) and continue to watch Netflix while you are ramming down keep gates until you are crowned Emperor.

That's what everyone else does ...

Die a lot. Figure out why you are dying a lot and quit doing that.

This is the best advice. Don't be afraid to die, but learn from your mistakes.

Well I can't tell you how to become a good PvP player, still learning myself, but happy to share a few things I have learnt.

Build/skills/gear to you group size. Transitioning from solo to 2-4 man groups, then to med-large groups I found interesting as my solo-based builds didn't complement the groups as well. My magplar solo build became more of a supporting build in 4 man groups, more buffs/debuffs/heals over my own DPS.

Then in larger groups I ended up transitioning to a full heal/support slotting timestop, siege shield, barrier and a bunch of skills I hadn't needed or used in solo/small groups, even popping Kags armour on those faster rezes when squishy people just have to stand in oils. I tend to carry 4 weapon/jewelry sets (SPC, Worm, Trans, Sanct) so I can assist group with more heals, more dps, more resist or better sustain depending on how the groups going. So a different mentality and mindset to 1vXing as well.

I have two interesting tanks builds that are specifically crafted for med/large group play (an anti-bomber tank, and negate tank) and they happen to be the ones I enjoy playing the most. Stopping a bomber in his tracks before he even gets to the group or hitting that clutch negate I find more fun and rewarding. So don't be afraid to build/craft off-meta once you get into larger groups. You can tailor to your playstyle and where you find the group is lacking (if you play with the same people).

Im maining a DK Stam I was originally swapping my main pve to pvp got quite good as a stamplar high rank etc but wanted a proper pvp toon so made a Dk as not got that class and went Stam as tried mag builds but do t get on with them .
I decided from beginning I wanted to use it mainly on bg s . I started with an old build online using 5pc Heavy Armor 3 pc agility and 2H asylum and asylum bow build . (2H as not tried it before . ) I decided to help my build I want to get all the titles for bg s . I noticed with my build certain modes were good domination and crazy king but got wrecked in death matches. So after looking at a lot of builds I swapped to s&b and2h with involved learning all new skills and getting all new gear . Plus swapping to 5pc medium so after practising a lot it is defo better all round but not Tanky as before . Plus learning what the new skills do and how/when to use . My advice is experiment . I now am missing 3 titles once I have got these I will start doing Cyrodiil on this toon . I also will be starting to do duels to see how I do .
Ps what cp and faction & server are you ?

To become a good PVP player you have to use your brain, improve your dexterity and find your own build/playstyle.

The most important imho is tailoring a build so its suitable for PvP. If you play with the mentallity that your character is say a melee warrior who hates magic and build your character according to your fantasy of how your character should be, you will suffer in PVP

This here is a big tip IMO. It took me quite awhile to start wearing heavy sets on my spell casters. As an old RPer and D&D player I was pretty resistant to having to wear armor that didn't seem to fit the part. Be flexible on this because it helps a lot.
