Is it allowed to play with 2 instances of the game, running at 1 PC at the same time, switching between 2 instances/accounts by ALT+TAB ? I hope to see answer from Zenimax here. Thanks.

If they're two different accounts (that you fully paid for), then there's no problem as far as I know.

because that allow u to get x2 more loot. if u' got 3-4 accounts, u can get x3/x4 loot from grinding.

More accounts are allowed but you need 2 people to operate the two accounts at the same time, so 2 clients on one pc wont be allowed officialy.

ok then I reformulate my question: will I get ban if ill run 2 accounts on one PC at the same time, and will play with both accounts switching between accounts by ALT+TAB?

I ran 1 instance from steam, and another by running eso64.exe in game folder. I don't have 2 accounts to login though. I have played some other MMOs that only 1 instance is allowed on 1 pc. if you run another one, the previous one will be disconnect or an error will occur. sandbox can bypass that.

Controlling one account, then controlling the other account, then switching back to the first account, *never* having either account do anything automatically? So that when you switch away from the first account, that character is doing nothing?

    Sounds okay, technically.

Also sounds like the sort of thing that could be used to quadruple the results of farming a dungeon for gear - have one account that can solo the content, 3 other accounts group up and die at each boss while the good character solos it, all 4 get a drop because all 4 are present and participated even minimally.

Dunno how Zeni would take that, as a method of accelerating over their RNG speed bump, it might fly because of not botting and having the skill to make a character that can solo it.

I think this is walking a thin line.

One of the rules of the game is that you have to be controlling your character no matter what they do. I guess if you're switching to Character B - and leaving Character A to do nothing but stand, that might be fine - but I think ideally Character A would be logged off (at which point having 2 instances wouldn't help anyway) - having both on at the same time, and leaving one sitting in the background might be perceived as an attempt to be exploitative, even if you're doing nothing wrong.

Even if not, the game logs you out after 10 min of standing still lol... so unless you're like hyperactive and switch between both every 5 minutes, I really don't see the purpose to this.

It's a pain in a certain body cavitiy to alt-tab between two characters on different accounts. Especially with only one display. Not to mention the constant lag.

As long as you have two accounts and you're controlling both instances manually, you never play both at the same time because your input only goes to one at a time.
    That would be OK.

You still need to contribute DPS in order to get loot from a kill. I think the amount is either 5 or 10%.

Simply standing around while grouped with another person doing all the work won't net you anything. So you would have to actually switch between 1 account and another mid-fight slowing things down considerably. It is probably faster to not bother.

This is why that kind of farming generally only works if you are using scripts and bots, which is of course cheating and what cheaters do.

My thoughts exactly. He may not be... but it seems like he's about to walk a very thin line.

I can see if he wanted to use two separate characters to enter a dungeon to get double the loot... maaaaaybe. But this sounds like it's for some sort of bot farm. The fact that he's insistent on an answer from Zenimax makes me think that he knows he's about to do something questionable.

Can you even have two separate sessions of ESO running on the same computer?

Yup. I believe one session has to be the 32-bit client and the other the 64-bit. That's the only way I've been able to do it anyway.

And for anyone wondering why I would do it, it's so that one of my characters on one account could share a daily quest with a character on another account (yes, I have characters sitting on all of the guild dailies so I can do all 15 of them for each guild on a single character in a single day if I want). Usually to do that I'd open a session on my laptop, but a couple of times my laptop hasn't been handy.

Seems like you are trying to park multiple accounts at the same spot. Such as a dolmen or at a delve boss to farm for set gear. On the surface it would seem to be legit. Yet the reasons to do it make it a very grey question. Cause if 2 are fine. Why not have 100 accounts doing the same thing to farm expensive weapons. At that point it becomes clear that it is not acceptable. Intent can greatly change guilt. Maybe a ZOS answer would help.

    @ZOS_GinaBruno, @ZOS_JessicaFolsom, @ZOS_RichLambert

That kind of question though makes me think that you have run bots on other games.

Dont know for sure but if its anything like any of MMO around you can play two accounts at once all you want (IF YOU CONTROL THEM BOTH) not put one on follow or macro key strokes. Unless you control them both (which you cant possibly do at the same time) then its probably not allowed.

    Greetings Traveler,

My name is Zach with the Terms of Service team.

There's nothing in the Terms of Service that says you can't do this.

One thing you would need to worry about is automation. If you use multiple account and have them running 3rd party programs so that one follows the other, or one plays itself while you play the other, this would be considered a violation. That would be botting.

If, for some reason, you had a desire to have 2 accounts with 2 different characters logged on at the same time, you can do that. As I said, just be sure that you are controlling your characters manually without any assistance from any other method of playing.

If you have further questions, let me know.

    Thanks,
    Zach B.

So this means that if not enough ppl from the guild are interested in doing certain dungeon, I can invite my alt account mule to the group, and we would have better chance to get stuff from bosses? Tempting. Would take a lot of time yo constantly swap chars with alt tab, but still...

If you have 2 monitors (which is not rare nowadays) you can fast switch and do micro controlling here and there, but amount of energy for doing such things is huge,so think twice before trying...

Not if grouped. In group you get xp and loot anyway. Like if you do dungeon quest and can loot trash other cleared. Its an distance reqirement however.
This is even more visible in cyrodil
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.
