I got it yesterday on my magicka Sorcerer character.
It involved about 150 pies and 2 hours of sieging and defending keeps.
Basically, you have to spam it shortly before an enemy dies and get the killing blow.
Only doing damage will not advance your progression towards this achievement.
My last kill for this achievement was in 1v2 and I killed them both a bit after my meteor him them!
Some videos I recorded for fun: Main character:
PC EU main: Universe - AD magicka Sorcerer, Former Emperor, Grand Overlord, The Merciless, Trial Bosses Solo Champion
Top alts: Genius(stamina/sagicka Dragonknight) The Force(stamina Nightblade) and other chars.
PC NA main: The Magic - AD magicka Sorcerer

    Favorite Foods and Potions

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

People in multiple guilds are just coordinating going to a hidden corner somewhere and killing each other, one guild even doing it as a group between 3 alliances and reviving each other.

Doing it doing zergling wars sounds like a nightmare, taking my quickslot potion spot for some colored pie while wondering if it fired, or trying to get my skills to fire? Uh no thanks ZoS.

I agree, but unfortunately this achievement is so much easier to get when you cheese it. I'd say if they didn't want people to earn it this way, they really needed to think it through a bit more. Many people will always try and find the easiest way of accomplishing things, even in games such as this. As long as it doesn't enter exploit territory, I have no issue with it. I do agree that it's a horribly designed achievement though.

Not sure if it was glitched for us or not but we had a few people killing each other. I threw a pie and did one light attack. Another player then killed the player I threw the pie at. I got the credit and the player dealing the killing blow did not.

This is nearly impossible to do legit as a solo player it seems. In PvE the pie seems to last forever. 1 on 1 in PvP, it was gone in like five seconds. Zerg surfing is almost as bad. It's hard to throw pies with such a short interval and keep the damage pressure up. It might work better if you have others throwing pies for you.

Little things like the using the pie putting your weapon away, and big things like the undocumented cooldown - yes those both make it harder to get the Messy Business achievement.

From what I have seen cheesing this with guildmates in Cyro, it's something like a two-minute cooldown for both the player doing the killing AND the victim. That is,
    • If you have pied and killed someone within the past 2 minutes, you won't get credit for another player kill
    • If the person you pie and kill was killed by someone else for the achievement in the past 2 minutes, you also won't get credit for the kill
Take extra pies, and budget more than an hour even if you are with friends... it takes longer to get than you might expect.

Not true. I was cheesing this with a few alts and with those who had the DPS power I could kill the same player two times (with a rez between) on the same pie, and it would count two.

The mechanic is very wonky though. Throwing a pie while battling messes with your skills and rotation. Doesn't seem to go, until the enemy turns a different color.

Attacking an enemy first, and then having a player with less DPS finish them off would not count the kill for them. Possibly because they hadn't initiated combat, or maybe because the pie wasn't theirs. The only way it would count was to have the low level player start combat, throw the pie, I'd throw some LAs to bring the health down faster, and then they'd finish it off, getting credit.

If they had given credit for it if any player on your group got the killing blow like the kill-20 quest, or from ANY source of pie and not just your own, this would not need to be cheesed.

Agree, that and that you have to use consumable pies makes this an nightmare to get unless you are skilled at pvp.
And this is an joke achievement.
Had they made it doing damage on player covered in pie who dies before pie ends it would be fine and easy.

Yes, we found that you should do damage, then trow pie then burn them.

Also if you do this over time as in large group or many alts. Do it in an delve as it does not show up in map

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.
