Or.. do you not care how much cp they have, because..?

Just curious, this is a question both for new and old players :)

Ps. How do you feel about addons showing your total cp to others?

I have 645CP and have never even been to the Battlegrounds.

If I do make it there, I'm sure I'd be a walking disaster due to lack of PvP experience. Sorry, but you'll find no respite here team-friends. :D

Hah, Well that could be discussed, plenty of account buyers out there, or just no life cp farm for a couple of weeks xD

    But i get what u mean :)

Well, everyone have to start somewhere, its actually pretty easy in the beginning. But when u start to get good, thats when the MMr punishes u and sets u up against premade groups

If u want to look in to pvp, u would most likely be better of in cyrodiil, best place to start :p

...which would be a very foolish thought, as high CP just means "played a lot", and says nothing about how those CP were earned - many PvE players and even moreso alt-happy roleplayers may have amassed lots of CP over time, but may suck at the PvPness...

I personally don't take CP as a measure of a persons skill level as a player. All it means is they've been playing the game a long time. I've see really terrible players that are way high CP, and I've seen no CP players wreck others. I personally have 940CP I think. I'm at best a moderately neato pvp'er.

I don't think anything and don't pay attention to it at all. why? becasue I myself am high CP and I suck. high CP =/= great player. all it means is that this is a player who's been playing for a while, but you can get this cp number by solely solo questing, so....

that said, seeing "Former Emperor" or one of the higher end pvp titles? THAT gives me a pause. they may still not be all that great, but at least this way I know that they have some degree of pvp experience and dedication.

BG: as long as they are above 160, idgaf seeing as cp isn't applied in BGs
Dungeon; I expect them to be at least somewhat competent, if not capable

Personally I don't use cp as a skill measuring stick. It'll usually not end well.

Anyways, for dungeons, cp doesn't matter to me. For dlc dungeons, I'd at least want cp300+, b/c I'm pretty sure that's where the extra resources from cp ends. That and with cp trees being front loaded, 300 should be enough to get decent bonuses.

For BGs, cp doesn't apply so, meh. On the other hand, I'd look at their alliance war rank. Of course this isn't infallible either, and shouldn't be a be all, end all; but having a rank at least means the person has spent time in a pvp environment.

In Cyrodiil, I'd say a mix of the above.

Honestly I do not care about being high lvl or not, I mean there are times when whole group have max CP and all the other random players I go with "stand in stupid" red circles and do just light attack (without psijic skill), resulting in my healer I (currently trying to slowly get max undaunted) am doing 80% group DPS with ~10-12k DPS...

While on the other hand I met few newbies who were very awesome and nice players and were fun to talk to.

In BG it doesn't rly matter as they are no CP, or well maybe it matters if you compare their ability to get more equipment, higher CP players do tend to have better gear after all and fully golden.

In my opinion CP isn't a great gauge simply because you never know if someone is truly new(er) or someone visiting/transferring from another platform and/or region. It's kinda funny seeing people get flabbergasted when this low CP player in Cyro just demolishes them. Little did they know that low-cp player was actually a multi emp from console coming over to pc for greener pastures.

    meh its tricky.

CP / alliance rank etc is a measure of time played, that does not = skill but you do learn a thing or two playing a long time.

I usually don't attribute anything to anyone I have not seen do anything, I usually wait to see how or what they do at least a little bit.

for instance in cyro its a combination of looking at CP, alliance rank, class, hp numbers, how they move around the battlefield, how they are managing buffs, etc.

overall I try not to make assumptions on anyone as I have little data, as I acquire said data I start making conclusions and decisions around it.

CP doesn't mean crap. With the XP buff from this event, I expect to hit CP 810 on my main before the end of it. I have a couple of alts, one is currently lvl 48 and only leveled through events, I have run like 2 dungeons and I can assure you that I suck at playing this class, once he reaches lvl 50 and instantly jumps to CP 810 you can expect this alt to be a bad CP 810, at least till I seriously play it :/

CP means nothing. You can get max cp murdering the same four mudcrabs outside wayrest. Action is more important. I can't even begin to tell you how many times a low level CP outplayed and outclassed a high level CP. Plus, at least with my experience, high/max level cp people tend to come with a whiff of "holier than though" attitude.

Easy enough just to go grind CP to max in one place - no experience or knowledge of the game required or gained.

I've come across quite a few players that are useless in a normal dungeon, then when I try to help them with their build find out that they don't know about armour sets, food buffs and potions!

Even came across one guy at max cp that had golded up all his gear bought from the general armour vendor!

Personally would prefer CP not to show at all since CP is in no way indicative of a persons skill.
I've been in since beta and am over CP cap but they all came from solo questing and crafting.
It absolutely sucks that at world bosses etc where I am waiting to do a daily I get surrounded by low level/new players expecting me to be badass due to my CP count. Having to say hello by telling the group all my CP came from crafting writs kinda sucks xD

It's like when someone comes into a dungeon and starts linking their golded out trial gear in chat. "nice", but ultimately meaningless - - high CP means time played, not awesome player, likewise gear means content completed, not whether player was carried or was able to complete it with ease.

Recently started on PC after playing on console since console launch. I'm CP175 now, but last week lvl 45 running veteran fg1... Had a whisper "must be nice having all that hidden CP". Uhm, no, just someone who understands the game, their chosen class and is familiar with the content.

Neither CP nor gear are indicators of ability. Make no assumptions.

When I see a high CP player in PvE I assume they'll at the very least do the minimum required of their role, but I've been disappointed before (PvE titles that are associated with difficult PvE content seem to be a better indicator of being decent). In battlegrounds PvP rank > CP. I've seen CP 1300+ shatter like glass without shooting a single cannon ball, but I've yet to see a high ranked player be completely useless. Of course, low ranked players can also be skilled in this content as well (experienced player on a new toon or a player with decent game sense). In Cyrodiil player actions are more important than rank/CP. A high CP player might be trying to PvP for the first time and a high ranked player might be more focused on making AP.

    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

    - No
    - Don't care, although I used to like seeing actual total CP on PS4 instead of just showing cap

It's more about accommodating lower CP players. High CP but poor game knowledge is frustrating.

My initial thought if someone has more CP than me is that they'll do more damage, take less damage, have more health/magicka/stamina etc.

Then I remember the game shows other people how many CP I have (122) not how many I'm using (0) and that it doesn't show my weird hybrid builds, frequently under level gear or which characters I've actually earned CP on and that it doesn't show me all that info about other players either so it's not really indicative of anything except the amount of XP gained on the account as a whole, so I go back to relying on what they actually do to know what they're capable of and what they need from me.

In general people with more CP than me do have higher stats and therefore do have an easier time doing damage and staying alive, I'm just a walking example of how it's not a simple comparison.

(And I agree with everyone else that it doesn't show anything at all about actual knowledge and experience, especially not with a specific game mode or area. You can get CP relatively quickly by finding a good grind spot and using some XP scrolls but that will do absolutely nothing to prepare you for taking on challenging content.)
