How satisfied are you with ESO PvP?

I really wanted to give at least a Neutral, because I really enjoy the PVP in this game when it actually works, but the current state of PVP is just atrocious. Where do I even start?

Server performance is questionable at best, Oceanic connection performance is *** horrendous thanks to the DDOS protection the game uses, the game is littered with bugs to varying extents, balance is god awful currently making the game just depressing to play, Cyrodiil is just laggy zergfest, Battlegrounds have a variety of problems associated with match making and team balancing, dueling is woefully neglected with no options for non-CP duels, and I can continue going.

If they were to address the main problems with PVP, it'd already be a Satisfied for me, with only the little things tarnishing the experience. But, as PVP stands currently, it's a solid Dissatisfied, leaning towards Very Dissatisfied.
There's grind behind grind behind grind to get to a level where you can actually compete with others in PvP. I'll just list a few examples of stuff you have to grind because you can even start being competitive in PvP:
    • CP 810, probably the most important and most grindy aspect of getting into PvP.
    • Item sets; you're really screwed if you want Maelstrom or Dragonstar arena weapons, or trial gear.
    • Upgrade resins and etc to get equipment all to gold.
    • Grinding skills and then morphs to max.
    • Grinding storyline quests for skillpoints.
    • Hunting skyshards and lorebooks.
    • Getting Undaunted to 10 so you have the max stat passives.
    • Farming reagents such as Corn Flower to make potions.
    • Buying recipes, food materials, and then making the right foods for your build.
    • And the list goes on...

Does not matter how much skill you have, if you fail to grind our all of these things before hand, you will lose against an average player who has done all of it. I find the never-ending grind to be competitive very dissatisfying, and losing in PvP just feels bad, like you've wasted so much time. Additionally to that, there are over performing abilities, like spin-to-win builds and dragon knights with permanent up time of reflective scales. I came back at the start of the week, and honestly I'm ready to quit ESO again. Just my honest opinions and my experience with the game I've played on and off for years.

Most of the points you listed range from misinformed to flat out wrong.

    1. Play in non-CP.
    2. As it should be, IMO. The strongest gear should be locked behind the hardest content, otherwise why run that content, but the other options should be more than strong enough to put a build together. Believe it or not, a lot of well performing PVP builds don't use arena weapons, nor do they use trial gear. It's all crafted, overland, dungeon gear, and monster sets.
    3. The only equipment you need to be gold is weapons, gold armour provides negligible improvements. It's literally a difference of at most 5% between all purple and all gold.
    4. It isn't that hard. This more falls under the category of "how to level characters up efficiently", than "how to get characters ready for PVP". I've got 1 of every class, plus an extra stam sorc, and every time I've leveled them up to 50, I've had every class skill and passive unlocked, all but the last class skills ready to be morphed, most if not all of the weapon skills unlocked and (ideally) ready to be morphed, Fighters Guild maxed out with Dawnbreaker already leveling (since I level through dolmens), etc.
    5. Skyshards can offset the loss from storylines.
    6. Lorebooks, agree, they're a pain in the ass. Skyshards, though, it isn't that bad, especially if you make compromises. The best way to get skill points is honestly to just run through some public dungeons, as you get 1 skill point when you complete the group event, plus the skyshard. My PVP pain has only cleared most if not all skyshards in maybe 3 zones, and I've only got a couple flavour passives left to grab, like the rest of the alliance passives (have the passives that give ulti when you kill a player and reduces rez time), grab the Undaunted passives (need to run dungeons for them), have like 3 passives left for Mages Guild (lorebooks), etc.
    7. Agree here, I feel there should be an equivalent for PVP.
    8. You can just buy the potions directly from guild stores for gold, or if you're using weapon/spell power potions, buy them with AP from siege merchants.
    9. Again, buy them from guild stores for gold.

I'm actually satisfied with PvP however it's players behavior that drags me vote down, boosting cheating etc.

However i think part of that is on ZOS to enforce it better. Nd to motivate players to spread out from zergs, and to add campaign / alliance loyalty to make it mean something. And yes ill throw in a solution to faction hopping for nefarious means (unlike hopping for legit reasons..which some might have)

PvP is my end game, without it I'd be gone. Trials are dull and overload is too easy. I think it's got good stuff / systems just needs the last few %

    too much bs these days.
between lag and cheating i dont know whats legit pvp anymore.

its hard to take it serious at that point, but beyond that its really not gone anywhere different since maybe things like battleground and imperial city, and those really didnt affect cyrodiil, the main pvp setting, for the better.

Agreed, i thought more of that behavior would go to BG but it does devalue Cyro and suck the fun for many of us

Better motivation to play legit, and better enforcing of cheating would help. I don't think motovations of better stuff to buy for AP are the answer as half the pop are farming half wanting to win campaign, it's demotivating.

I don't like being one shot from stealth then teabagged by that guy, my skills not firing, 3 small teams instead of 2 bigger teams in battlegrounds, builds unbalance,
and the stuck in combat bug. For all this I quit trying pvp.

When Cyrodiil works, it’s really fun, I especially enjoy those one man battles and the rare chance I get to go against a small number of other players.

When the lag hits, which unfortunately is 99% of the time, I’m just inclined to log off.
It’s especially depressing to raise at a camp only to spawn dead because you were in an infinite load screen, but your character was not.

As a healer, the constant stuck in combat bug makes want not to play PvP ever again! And yes, I'm not playing as much as I used to...

This (and the infinite load screens, random skills not firing, and the disconnects at big keep fights) mean I take a complete break from Cyrodiil every couple of months. I love ESO PvP combat system in open world....when I can play.

This is mostly because of stuck in combat for whatever reason my Templar never drops combat and its getting incredibly frustrating. I was fed up yesterday but couldn't even log off after 15 mins because I'm stuck in combat it's getting ridiculous.

    1. Sets: broken -- frequently offered via a paywall-- sets carrying out players rather than the opposite
    2. Latency. I still wait for 2 dizz.swings to trigger since last Saturday
    3. Zergs. I get it it's an all against all war , but when Zergs are being deployed within an enviroment with the above 2 then... fek!
    4. "Cocky Skilled" players . What a random joe calls skill in online games is mostly 80% good hardware , less ping, and some muscle memory. This ain't no skill. Skill would be to compose your first well put essay on the age of 12. That's a skill , it's called eloquence. Let alone that most of the "skill" coming against you , might be just a macro playing a routine.
    5. Teabags. According to the aforementioned you might end up being teabaged by guy who thinks he is an ESO god, whereas he is superior just because his wallet can afford better eqquipment, better broadband connection, or because he is next to the server and you are getting ZOSed by lag.

    my issues to be "constructive"

    - Current meta isnt fun at all. I dont want to fight zergs of tanks. Spin to win rips thru everything. snipe desync makes it even more annoying, the pet sorcs are getting alittle out of hand (especially in bgs)
    - Stam is going much better than mag competitively (see heavy meta)
    - The removal of faction locking has severely hurt pvp. people switch to whichever side is winning and it makes comebacks almost impossible.
    - The over the top guards are kind of annoying too. Especially with them interfering with actual player vs player fights and when your solo and trying to complete the easier dailies (cap a resource, gladiator cap 9 resources) Its still easily doable its just more tedious and time consuming
    - performance being performance. especially long load screens, dc's, crashes, snipe desync, stuck in combat and cc's not breaking
    - Also, might be ps4 na ad specific, a lot of group leaders have left over the last yr from all above and it makes finding a fun group difficult
    - over all pop count being down from all above on all except the winning alliance also is not helping

some "this isnt ruining cyro but its still eeehh" things

    - I still think scrolls are a little op, in my experience if the other alliance has both your scrolls they are always in the lead during eval points just by defending those 2 keeps even if you have a significantly larger potion on the map. 5 pts would be better
    - since the defense tics got reduced people arnt really bothering with defense much.

    Some good:

    - new outposts, gates and bridges are a nice change
    - gladiator stuff is pretty cool

It might be fun if something would be done about the terrible performance, constant lag and over-all unresponsive game play I always seem to experience when I go to Cyrodiil and BG's. PVE's even a mess half the time depending on how recent the last patch was.

While it does have its issues, and the obvious FotM builds and cheese it is better than most MMORPGS on the market that (feel like they) force the player base into the FotM / Meta cheese.

Versus other games, yes ESO PvP can be better, but it as well can be much worse.

    1. Lag
    2. Super sketchy players. Example: Oh, you hit me once and magically drained 38K worth of Stamina? Awesome.

I don't play it enough to care, honestly.

But I played it enough to decide I do not like it for a number of reasons. I love the idea of castle sieging. It has the potential to be amazingly fun, but it is ruined for me because we all take our vestiges into Cyrodiil. That doesn't make any sense, and linking PvE and PvP like that just doesn't work well. I wish we had different characters used in PvP only - roles that would actually make sense if you were fighting mass battles and doing castle sieges. It won't happen, though, so I will continue to barely touch or have any interest in PvP. And roll my eyes at the endless changes made at the expense of PvE for PvP, which seems to be growing more frequent.

Lag is at it's worst, unique builds are becoming rarer and rarer, skill is becoming less and less important and small / solo play is getting nerfed patch after patch since 1.6. Game is far worse than it was in the past for PvP at least imo. Still the best MMO for PvP however which shows how much potential this game has.
Overload rework. Power Overload now does physical damage and grants you the power of a tornado: You throw a brick at the target with a light attack, and you hammer your head into that brick with every heavy attack. You really should play some game like any other FPS game that you can get instant gratification. In most FPS game you will not have to achieve anything to be effective, you just need quick reflexes. ESO in contrast has a very slow reward system.

Very true. IF you have the time.
I love ESO, but, frankly, I only have 4 hours tops a day to play (closer to 2 or 3) since I have a job, need my sleep, have a family, etc.
I find that, if I avoid the PvP on the whole, I have the time to get things done, but, to do the PvP right, you really have to be dedicated! :)
