"logging in" and/or switching character time

I have a pretty high end PC with a new ASUS ROG Strix mobo, Intel i7 9700K, 16GB of RAM, 500GB Samsung EVO NVME drive for my OS and a 2TB Samsung EVO SSD for my game library. Even games such as PUBG, Skyrim and FO4 that have well known, obnoxiously long "loading" times are loading almost instantly and yet...ESO not so much. I know by some people's standards waiting 45 seconds to a minute for the game to load (and frequently another 15 seconds to exit the game to the character select) may not seem like a long time but it's quite noticeable when logging into my 8 characters to collect hireling mail and do writs. For perspective..I can restart Windows faster than it takes to "load" into one character.

Are there any settings or tweaks that anyone knows about to improve/fix this? This is now literally the only game that doesn't load almost instantly.

Can't help you. My loading screens average 15-20 seconds. Not a new machine, and not really high-end.... AND my only connection is satellite.

Not sure what's been going on, but it has been getting noticeably longer to log in and log out of each character. What's worse, is that, at every other log in to a different character, my game will boot me off the server entirely and I have to sign back into the game. So it's getting really annoying having to log in and out of 14 characters.
Far too many characters to list any more.

I used to joke that I was teaching myself to play harmonica while waiting for loading screens and could play Mary Had A Little Lamb and most of The Saints Come Marching Home. Lately my loading screens haven't been horrible for the most part. I only do the daily crafting writs on a couple of characters though because of loading screen times even now that they are better for me.

Your PC is just sitting there waiting for the ESO server to response during loading.

This has always been an ESO problem. The game itself is amazing - if only it would let us actually get around to playing it in a timely manner.

Want to run a dungeon? Log in - loading. Select character, loading. Dungeon queue, waiting (unless you're a tank xD). Get into dungeon, loading. Maybe dungeon finder funks up and you have multiple loads needed due to some error.

Need to pull an item from the bank? Maybe you'll run into that one issue where it just doesn't load the guild bank :3

At least, this has been my experience. It isn't constant, but I have made a note of this over the years and I spent far more time just waiting for something to load in ESO than I do any other game - even games/mmos that are 10 years old.

No matter how strong my toons get they've never been able to even scratch the loadscreen boss!

haha 45 secs??? I'd take that everyday of the week and twice as long on the weekend!

On console there's been times I've just given up and played something else due to not even being able to get to character select screen. After an hour of attempts!!!

It's so *&^%$ hit and miss with this game wether I'll be able to play day to day. So take your 45 secs for granted and maybe make a drink or something in that short little time span!

So to sum it up... it isn't anything to do with your computer and you could be a helluva worse off!

Yeah, I didn't even mention that but it happens to me as well. The game randomly just logs you out when trying to switch characters. It's not happening to me *that* often but annoying nonetheless.

Only reason I thought that there might be is that I was also seemingly stuck at 60 FPS even though I have a 144Hz Gsync monitor. I found a thread on here with some tweaks that among other things uncapped my FPS and though I'm not getting 144 FPS I have basically doubled my FPS and the game seems to be performing a bit better. Thought maybe someone found some other tweaks or workarounds to improve this as well.

I should have also mentioned that I also have Gigabit fiber Internet with super fast connection (usually anywhere from 500Mb/s to 900Mb/s up and down) so it's not like I'm using dial-up or something. I do notice that the in-game latency meter seems to show relatively poor response times and I have some friends that complain about really poor response times so that may be the real culprit.

Did all this get even worse with the last patch? The character login time seems even worse now and I'm also getting logged out twice as much trying to switch characters. WTH is going on with these servers?? It's so damn tedious switching characters in this game!

Sometimes I cringe at that thought of how much of my life I've spent staring at a loading screen in ESO. At this point in time you'd think a few smart people might have come up with better technology. Even if you could just change characters on the fly, that would be a HUGE improvement.

Nothing one can do about the now morbidly obese hamster that ZOS will not put on an effective diet or put out of our misery

seems that this issue is getting worse week by week...

All your fancy hardware means nothing. A $200 Playstation receives the exact same login experience.

Want to feel better? Do you like using wayshrines in capital cities? I wish I could. Use of a capital city wayshrine is a guaranteed disconnect for me. Been that way since wayshrine dueling was introduced.

The problem cannot be repaired. I gave up communicating with ZoS about it 2017.

I believe it may have something to do with the number of achievements completed. My older characters with many achievements take longer to load then the newer characters with few achievements. Just a guess on my part.

It can also be down to addons. Anything that increases the amount of data that has to be loaded is going to affect the time it takes to load. Although on PC I don't use any addons so know nothing about them, but isn't there some sort of file/folder associated with them that you need to reduce in size every so often or it hits performance?

If you have Master Merchant, swap it for Arkadius' Trade Tools.

MM adds about 30-60 seconds to load screens. ATT has no impact on load time so far from what I've seen while having virtually identical functionality. ATT automatically deletes data older than 30 days and it employs a different scanning technique that doesn't seem to affect performance like MM (it doesn't even stutter when you login).

There may be something in this. I just ran some few tests:

Level 50 Main with 14.5k APs: 65 seconds in, 15 seconds out
Level 50 Alt with 7k APs: 40 seconds in, 11 seconds out
Level 50 Alt with 4k APs: 30 seconds in, 10 seconds out
Level 50 Alt with 2k APs, 30 seconds in, 9 seconds out
Level 39 Alt 1.5k APS, 25 seconds in, 8 seconds out
Level 26 Alt 1k APS, 20 seconds in, 8 seconds out

All characters are based in Rawl'kha. All have empty mailboxes. All have fairly low amounts of quests in their logs.

I tried half a dozen logins with each, above numbers are averages, there was some variance but nothing major. I tried with addons enabled and then disabled for each with no discernible difference in timings.

My PC is fairly high end with i7-6700k and 32GB ram, game and OS run from separate Samsung EVO SSDs, my net connection is wired and very good ping times. I have no problems with any other MMOs, all of which load the game and characters far quicker than ESO.

Exact same here. Very VERY annoying...and log in screens take for EVER. Especially crashing out to the login screen on character swap. Been happening since Wraithstone released.

My husband and I too have noticed a difference between this week and last week. This week it's taking us twice as long to log in than it did last week.

Another thing I have noticed since last weeks patch is that I am riding along on my mount when BOOM I hit a loading screen and when I get done loading and get back into the game , I am dismounted. This happens randomly. So far it's only been happening in Vulkhel Guard.
I am doing Caldwell's Gold and currently questing in Bal Foyen. Today I was trying to kill a mob. Press skill key...nothing. Press skill key again...nothing. After trying the 3rd time I noticed I had a 4k ping. Next thing I know the mob has me half way dead.
We shouldn't have to play like this. And I know that come the 1st of April if this is still happening, we both have decided to drop our Subs.

I have also been experiencing anywhere from in the 400's to the 12000's in ping in-game.
He has been getting 300's to 3000's.
2 Different PC builds. Both Gaming PC's. Sitting almost side by side. Plugged into the same modem and both hard wired into it.
He called our ISP yesterday and they sent out a technician whom checked our modem...nothing wrong.
Checked the line coming from the box into our apartment....nothing wrong.
They called in another technician just for safety sake to check the main line down the street...nothing.
So we know it's not coming from our end.

All I know is that I am not enjoying the game much right now. :(

P.s. I forgot to mention the random disconnects to login screen with no error and for no apparent reason.

The exact same thing hapens to me since last week Id say. And tonight it got worst. It took me over a min per character.
