They periodically do free trials of ESO+ where non-subscribers get most of the benefits of a subscription for a few days. They don't get the subscription crowns or crown store items or discounts, but do get all their materials pulled into the crafting bag, can access DLC they haven't bought, can dye costumes etc.
There was one during the Morrowind event back in February (7th - 12th) and the one before that was in November. They often coincide with the DLC anniversary events, presumably so people who aren't subscribing and haven't bought it can try it out and maybe decide to get it. I guess they decided doing one for the Thieves Guild/Dark Brotherhood event running currently was too soon after the last one but there will probably be one in another few months.

✭✭I thought it was only twice a year and we had one recently. I have been abusing it quite a lot, to be honest, for example, I got a bunch of attuned crafting stations and ran to wrothgar during a free week. Also just filling a craft bag with a many style stones as possible.0 -

Ooooh!!!! I completely misread the question. I thought they meant “trial” as in 12 person dungeon. Not trial as in limited offer.

✭✭✭✭✭Now that I think about it, it's not really great of ZOS to lock the current event's tickets behind a paywall. They didn't do it in CWC or Morrowind celebration events... Well, I guess since they plan on selling event tickets for crowns, they probably don't care anymore.This Bosmer was tortured to death. There is nothing left to be done.1 -

I have 50+ survey maps waiting to hoard them to craftbag my inventory can't take any more
