Returning Player Looking for Assistance

Aloha!

I'm returning beta tester who essentially vanishing almost immediately after launch due to work and geographic location. Sadly I paid for a year subscription and never used it. I notice I got a free noncombat pet for it, however.

I have the original CE Digital version but do not have the expansions yet but shortly I'm planning to purchase the Elsweyr collecter edition. With that said, what is the best course of action for me? To outright buy all the DLC and x-packs then subscribe to the ESO+ service or just subscribe? From what I have seen the previous x-packs are now DLC accessible as long as the subscription is active. Consequently, I was thinking maybe better to simply just buy everything as well as getting the ESO+ for the perks such as the endless storage bag and bank space. I'm guessing it would cost about $250 USD for everything or somewhere in that ballpark. Judging from what I have seen the amount of content added since release is stunning and the continuous development of the game systems and responsiveness to player issues seems to have been a serious priority. In fact, truth be told, the reason I'm here now is that I've actually read on numerous websites throughout the past year as well as head people say TESO is the best MMO game available now and has been for a long time. That means a lot to me as a lifelong gamer and 1st generation MMO player who does not mind spending a thousand or so a year on m late-night online hobby.

I quit playing every MMO [except one] as soon as it went F2P because I loathe the model and I hope the whole gamblebox philosophy becomes illegal sooner rather than later. Nonetheless, the way the paradigm has been implemented in TESO from what I have read on different websites seems to be very reasonable from what I can tell which is why I'm interested in playing again.

Furthermore, I read somewhere that some people were commenting about starting new toons because of the Elsweyr x-pack but I'm at a loss as to the reason why. Accordingly, I'm looking for quick tips about progression and class as well as race changes that I should be aware of at this point. I'm not a magic user kinda player. I'm a tanker and DPS (dual wield two-handed) type.

Moreover, I'm also a fairly old player so I'm not a twitch and tweak person and I'm interested in joining a guild of mature players. Are there any recommendations? I'm interested in playing a drow vampire but I'm flexible if a really good community needs a particular composition or allegiance.

I'm in the process now of reading all the guides on the official site as well as trying to refamiliarise myself with the gaming systems. If there are some other great resources available to study please let me know.

Just subscribe to ESO+, if you bought Elsweyr, you will have access to 100% of content. It alone would provide you with so much content, that you might subscribe to ESO+ for a full year.
People are going to start new toons because of the new class - Necromancer - coming with Elsweyr.
Currently, pick an orc and you are ready for anything stamina-based. Though, I think orcs would be nerfed sooner or later, so Dunmer or Redguard might be a safer option (though you never know)

I second the subscription. When you subscribe, you get a crown allotment and you can use that to buy the DLCs over time.

...Unless you decide to go nuts on houses and mounts, in which case crowns won't last long. :-)

    And welcome back!

As others above had noted ESO+ in addition to what you have already should have you perfectly ready to dive in.

I didn’t catch if you said what server you plan to play on. If you let us know eg PCNA, EU, Xbox etc folks can suggest guilds. I’m sure with a little leg work you’ll connect with great folks. Also, check out the guild recruitment forums on this site to find people looking for new friends to play with - many of which have mature memberbases.

Hi Spartan! I'm an old Scroller too and played throughout beta. I've taken a few breaks here and there as well. For me ESO+ has been the way to go. My suggestion is to do that to get all of the DLC and wait to buy the chapters as needed. Go through the entire main game first! One Tamriel brought many changes, some good, some not. One of the not so good things is that if you play the current chapters you are spoiling the main game. Her is a guide to playing it in the order as originally intended: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/413807/what-order-should-i-do-esos-story-arcs-a-guide

What realm are you on? PC, PS, or XB? If on PC/NA give me a shout if you need a hand with anything. I still have a few toon left over from launch that haven't completed the game.

Thanks for the feedback! It is greatly appreciated. Regarding the subscription, that is what I suspected. It is always the way as far as I'm concerned. I wish they had a multiyear or even lifetime option actually.

Realm wise, I'm a PC gamer.

Server wise, its a tad complicated as I'm currently working near Hong Kong and since I'm American I'm using the US server but I have no problem using the EU server. I tried to log into it previously but I could not for some reason. Moreover, due to my connection issues (geography) creating frequent lag for me, I'm on a PvE server which is fine for me.

Additionally, thanks for the link about the story arc. I really do love the stories. Shoot I started and ran The Dark Brotherhood mod project and ran it for a couple of years back in the day.

Update: I got the Elsweyr CE Digital version and renewed the ESO+ directly from ZMI despite being able to buy the x-pack at a rather nice discount price from an online merchant. In general, I prefer to give as much money as I can to the developers when possible and it was easier for me to do it from my official account rather than a third party vendor so its all good.

I'm looking forward to getting in the game and trying things out but I think I won't get to the content for a very long time. I started a new orc toon and got her L10 already. I'm still feeling kinda lost at this point but enjoying the quests nonetheless.

For what it is worth I think the game has come a very long way since release. The developers have really done an amazing job, to say the least. This seems to be the only world-class MMO to actually have improved dramatically from release outside of WoW that I know about.

Accordingly, I think it was a well-spent couple of hundred dollars.
