Should I level pickpocketing on my magicka toon?

In a bit of a pickle here. My main is a magicka warden. I’ve put a lot of time and energy into this character and want to have stealing be another form of earning money. I also have a khajiit night blade that isn’t quite where I want him as far as skill points and gear goes. I’m wondering if it would be worth switching to the nightblade for thieving or is it that crippling to have a magicka thief?

It doesn't cripple the character in anyway but stealth in general is easier with Khajit nightblades.

I assume you mean legerdemain, since there is no pick pocket line to level.

I find it helpful when I want to open a chest. I never actually pick the lock anymore. I just force it using the passive from legerdemain. In trials, when we go back to get the chests and sacks we tend to ask to let those with the passive force the locks for speed.

So yes, it is helpful. And the added stealth cost reduction in PvP is nice.

If you are about tickets from heists/sacrametns they are doable with zero investment to stealth/pickpocketing on any magblade, or any blade if you will bump magicka/magicka recovery food for period.
If you wanna make your living as pickpocket, of course you need to put those points, without developed pickpocketing you can't steal effectively, obviously.

yes. I had this same dilemma with my magsorc high elf. Decided to do it to get the house motifs from vvardenfel, hit 20 a few weeks ago, don't reget it a bit. Thievery has nothing to do with your class / role. being a NB makes it a bit easier to get out of sticky situations, sure, but nothing you can't counter with potions/water.
