Warden bear confusion

Maybe lore or something I am missing but wouldn't it of made more sense for Warden to have a Bull Netch pet instead? They are iconic creatures of Morrowind lands and some Morrowind enemies / NPCs have them as pets. Assuming it was the main idea and the bear was chosen because of lack of time to create ESO Morrowind or it's a planned future morph skill. Just something I imagine most players would of preferred and a random thought in my head.

I mean as the ultimate. Not a baby netch obviously :).

I think it was because of wanting to get the expansion out quickly and of course it's hard work running a massive game so I know nothing will always be accurate.

Fitting through doors would be possibly an issue so I guess maybe a timed summon like Sorc atranoch possibly. I would probably main a Warden if so as many probably would because it would make the class actually make more sense for Morrowind. Maybe cluttering up the screen with giant bull netches is the other issue but still would be fun.

More likely because a bear makes more sense (more universal than the Morrowind-only netch), and causes less clipping issues.

Now, being able to ride a silt strider with a chaingun OTOH...

While Wardens came out with Morrowind, they're not restrictred to Morrowind, or probably even typical for Morrowind (ice magic?). In "Who Are The Wardens", we have speculation that they originated with the Bosmer (although that's a theory by Phrastus of Elinhir, so of dubious value ;) ) but even Cinnabar of Taneth, trying her best to disprove Phrastus, has Vvardenfell only as "there have been reports of Wardens from there", no stronger connection.

So while the other animal spells are certainly Morrowind-themed, they one that is most iconic for them is a generic animal that can be found all over the world (not the same subspecies but that's game limits), to reflect that Wardens can come from all corners of Tamriel.

    Bears block access to everything

Bull Netch would block access to whole towns and surrounding hamlets...

    imagine the hitbox...no ty

in PVP a pain, and in PVE aswell, since pets can block la and skills, when they are inbetween you and the boss.

Furthermore they can prevent rezzes, due to their hitbox blocking the direct LoS to the body.

Lol, if they had a bull netch people would be going insane in dungeons and towns. This would of been funny but I think this is also the reason why the necromancer's friends are temporary and not just due to the lore.

they should release pet packs like they are doing with arms pack

As long as all the re-skins are 1/3 the size of the bear and 1/5 the size of 'flappy'...

As long as the reskins are the same size or larger, I didn’t purchase a fierce Warden class to look like the pound puppies wrangler.

Zos was working on the Warden back before the game was launched. That does not seem like a rush job.

I think a Guar would be better than a Bull Netch for that, already got a baby netch following you from one or the other abilities.

But yeah I agree, if they went with the whole morrowind theme, might as well make the last one themed that way too, but I'd personally prefer if all of the animal companion abilities were more generic world-wide animals, or at the very least offer skins to override them as such. Whenever I make a Warden, I always have to force some time in Morrowind or Black Marsh in their backstory to explain why their powers reflect those animals so much lol.

This. I don’t like the other animal effects. The bear is the only thing that attracted me to the class. The other Vvardenfell creatures are the out of place aspect to me. I hope they come out with more skins because they have a whole category in the collections menu. They need to come out with different color bears, wolves, senches, and vipers ASAP. They already have the models in game and all the Attack animations (you can get a wolf, cat or snake companion in 2 different base game quests iirc)

Agreed. It might also be because they were working on the Warden before launch, when it would have been a base game class and nothing to do with Vvardenfell and they might have already had the bear done but no theme/effects decided for the other skills when they dropped it, so they kept what they had and added Morrowind themed skills to it.

I'd much prefer it if all the other skills were more generic. My warden is a breton who learned from the Wyrd and a couple of less aggressive Reach clans, so I'd really like her skills to reflect that. (I'd also love a wolf skin for the bear and I'm surprised we never got any variants beyond the grey bear.) As it is I just try to ignore the Morrowind theme, which is generally easy to do since it's only the cliff racer and the netch summons where I really notice.

Bears go with the ice and nature scheme, the only other animal that would possibly fit would be a wolf but werewolves already have those.

I haven't played TESIII in a long time, but I'm pretty sure that the bull netch was smaller and weaker than the Betty netch. If you want to replace the stupid bear with Morrowind-based fauna, then Alits, Kagouti and (sadly) Nixhounds are what we're talking about.

In 2002, every game had to have a Vampire or a Werewolf "thing". The TESIII expansion 'Tribunal' introduced vampires; the 'Bloodmoon' expansion introduced werewolves and as part of that, bears. I thought that vampires and werewolves spoiled entirely, the alien feel of Morrowind. Likewise the introduction of the Warden class and bears spoiled ESO.

Why do players need a pet to fight for them? Where's the skill in that?

I'd like to think of the bear being a part of the Warden's backstory. Since bears appear all over Tamriel, the Warden could've befriended one before travelling to Vvardenfell. And there, the Warden learned a great deal about the local fauna and flora and eventually even learning how to summon those animals.

Vampires were part of the Morrowind base game.
And while werewolves aren't as alien as Vvardenfell, the whole Bloodmoon expansion - with wolves and bears and snow and fir trees and Nords - was more "vanilla" that the original game.
