Both have a lot of tankiness. Depends on what you doing. I would say that DK is tankier but only just

Templar. 24k spell resist in light armor. Probably something like 27k if you take Breton, or Nord.

Is that supposed to be a lot?

Looking for any guildies I used to play with:
    Havoc Warhammer - Alair
LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab
PRX and Tabula Rasa - Rift - Iskiab
Or anyone else I used to play games with in guilds I’ve forgotten

With nothing but stuff you'd use in a rotation anyways, without any CPs or external resist buffs, yes it is. Or do you know a class that has more?

Warden is tankier but DK can provide slightly more group dps.

Why would you want to be a tanky dps anyways. It’s just bad.

i mean it depends on your build.

A Nord NB running Mirage would have nearly 14k resist only wearing 1 piece of heavy reinforced monster set and nothing else if you're using surprise attack as your spam.

but as others have pointed out, being 'tanky' is the job of the tank. If your'e going for a dps who can off-tank situationally, you can accomplish that through some extra gear sets and cp arrangements on any class.

For PVE or PVP? I ran a Nord StamDK in PVE when I first started out, as I had no clue about min/max, racial passives, etc. He was pretty sturdy, but his DPS was noticeably lower than when I changed him into a Khajiit, even with the preferred gear and CP setup. I will say, he had no problems surviving in vet trials like the Craglorn 3, or normal trials, and had pretty decent stamina sustain, in and out of group content. I have no idea what the racial restructuring has done, though.

I suppose he could have been nice for PVP, as kind of a boom tank or something. Never tried it

I think you need to narrow your focus a bit. I am a little confuse about what role you are actually trying to fill. If you want to do damage and you are worried about survivability, the answer is neither are great options. Both Stam and Mag DK are going to generally play in melee range as a DPS, and melee is always tougher to play as you are exposed to more mechanics. That said, Burning embers on a magic DK is actually a really strong heal, but you need to be on top of the boss to use it. Magic Warden is absolute last place for DPS in this game. Hard to recommend that to anyone. Stam warden is right at or near the top (i believe they are ahead of stam DK), but again, its a tricky class to master, and if you are spec'ed for damage, they really dont have a lot of innate survivability built in. Building tankiness into a group DPS build is counterproductive most of the time.

If you want a class that does good damage and can stay alive solo or with questionable support, far and away the best two options IMO are mSorc and mNB, with mTemplar as a close third. The difference, however, is that these classes stay alive with passive heals, not mitigation. Magic Templar is probably my recommendation for DPS that wants to break into group content because they have the easiest rotation of the lot, and you can easily build in some selfish extra healing if needed.

If you are set on one of these two above and are more interested in just questing/overland content, I would give the edge to the DK. They do a little better with crowed control and self heals that also put out damage. They also have the best selfish oh crap button in the game.

Tough call, I’d say magwarden for pure survivability. DK’s advantage are reflections, they do damage to the attacker so are a form of offense. Warden absorbs projectiles so it’s a little different.

I plan on kitting out my magwarden with heavy fortified brass and transmutation. I’m not 50 yet, but the toolkit looks really nice so far for pvp. Really tanky and if a group does attack you, you sit in your flowers and permafrost until your group kills them.

    In PVE? Neither.

Stamplar/Magplar would be, by far, the tankiest option for a DPS and nothing comes even remotely close.
