A bit of light at night and in Coldharbor areas please!

I just fell down a crack in a Coldharbor area quest (from Greenshade) and ended up having to completely fall off the world to get back to the wayshrine. I could only see the part of the ground where I put down Liquid Lightning. All my characters don't have light and things like this are REALLY annoying for no in game gain.

Then I am trying to finish looking for quests in an area of Greenshade and it is so dark I can't even see an outline of the ground. Come on! That is idiotic. I can understand needing to pay attention, but not seeing the ground at all makes it impossible to play!

I think the game should be darker in a lot of places but there should be means of lighting the area around you with torches or magic. Anyway, have you tried adjusting your screen because with a few exceptions where it wss intentional I never had issues with seeing the ground. Maybe close a curtain in your room?

Anyone who has completed the main quest at least once has the Meridia's Light collectible ... which you can use anywhere that is dark.

    Don't have it?

You can get magelight as a lowly level 2 adept in the Mages Guild.

Not using either of those when you can't see is ... well ... idiotic.

Aetherius forbid that it be dark at night.

In all seriousness though, I've never had issue playing at night or in Coldharbor so this really sounds like more of a user-side issue kind of thing (ie feel free to adjust your gamma setting to suit your personal preference, that's what it's there for).

Never had any issues. As long as your gamma is properly set... and you are not playing while sunlight is blinding you IRL...

If anything, ESO is often -too- well lighted, you never get the feeling you had in many TES dungeons where you wondered if you should stay stealthy and fight sneaky, or bring a darn torch so you could see where to go and forget about the "sneaky rogue" feelings...

But rejoice! Soon there supposedly will be a "Treasure Hunter" personality that comes with... a torch! At least that is what has been datamined...

Sounds like you need to turn gamma up in the game settings. If you follow the game's recommendations and leave the black side as dark as it suggests, you might run into problems. I usually set my gamma a couple of clicks brighter than the default and I've never had issues beyond the deliberately dark quests.

Many of you didn't read. Black is not dark, it is "all black". That is not helpful. I will look up the collectible. I have yet to find it on the character I am on at the moment, though I am not sure where it would be. (Mementos? - not in the "not found" list.)

I will check the gamma amount setting.

Having to quit playing because it is impossible to see is not a good part of a game that wants me to keep playing. Falling into a crack and then being stuck because I can't see enough to even look for a way out is not fun. (That may also be a poor design of having an area you cannot climb out of, but it was too dark to know.)

Dude... theres a thing called gamma in the options menu that you can adjust, almost all games have, there are skills and mementos of light in this game.... just... OMG!

    *sigh*

I remember myself using that light memento in delves because there was so dark and I barely saw anything under my feet. And then I figured out that I actually could just increase gamma a bit. I felt so stupid and ashamed because, well... like 15 years of gaming experience and I completely forgot that there are gamma settings in games. :)
One of the two of us definitely has gone mad. It only remains to define whether this one is the whole world or just me.

    Darker nights.

    Darker / pitch black caves.

    Should require a light source.

    Thanks.

I did look at the options and it is not called "gamma" on the PS4, but it does have something to show a white image in the black. Making that a bit more visible does seem to have a significant impact.

I could have finished Coldharbor much easier with my pet sorc instead of casting Liquid Lightning all the time to light off places.

I have not had to adjust video settings to play a game in any other one I can think of and I have played far too many over many decades. Yeah, its obvious to some of you, but not having some tiny whiteness (enough to just barely see edges but not the whole environment) is a poor design.

Love on it if you really want.
