Grymharth's Woe

So... I've been contemplating getting this. I like the location, and I like that it has 2 floors. It's bigger than I really need, but it's got a separate bedroom on the upper floor, which is great. However, there are still issues I'm having that are keeping me from doing so.
The first is that there's still no real use for a house. I can't imagine anyone visiting the house at random (as happened in other games I play, giving me a reason to decorate it in a way that might impress people), and there's not any storage (despite all the chests and dressers and such). So, there's not really any purpose to it.
Finally, there's no yard. That's honestly a minor annoyance, but it could be completely eradicated by the presence of a balcony... and one that projects out into the actual WORLD, not just its own little instance.
"But there IS a balcony," you say? That is not a balcony, that's a shelf. This brings me to my request to the devs.

Could you see fit to tweak the house so the balcony is wider? Just a bit, enough so I can move the camera around. You can even leave the thing with no railing, so the woeful "lore" of the house can remain intact.

Were this done, I believe I would buy the house without regret. As it is... I haven't been able to justify spending nearly $50 on the thing.

Buy it with in game gold.
You could make an indoor garden which always looks pretty great, doesnt have to be huge but you can certainly bring the outdoors-in.
I too love the location of Grymarths Woe, but I just haven't decided what I want to turn it into yet, so currently un-purchased.
As for what homes 'Do' - you are right, they do nothing at present.
But I will say that decorating a home to your satisfaction is quite a nice feeling, and gives you something to do in your down-time.
it might be worth buying one of the apartments first and see if you enjoy decorating that - they are only around 10k.
Oh, and you can get storage items now. There are 4 30 slot chests + 4 60 slot chests.

Well, it's technically not your balcony, as such, as it's outside your home's instance and therefore, not part of your house.

But, it's a really good house, for the gold and one of the few with a generous furnishings limit to size ratio.

As dtsharples says, unless you have spare Crowns, definitely wait until you can afford to buy it with gold (which won't be that long), rather than buying it with real money.

In general, the rule of thumb is to buy the bigger houses with real money (if you're going to buy anything with real money), as they have a worse gold to real money ratio:

Well... I've been hoarding my stipend of crowns as a subscriber since launch, so I have enough. It still bothers me it's essentially $50 worth of crowns, but they're already paid for and I do really want a house, however limited the housing system may be.

So, I did actually purchase the house, and regularly sit on a chair out on my shelf... er, balcony, and watch the world go by. A nicer view would have been nice, but it's pleasing enough as it is. A bit wider would still be better.

    I like it well enough.
It's a decent size, and nicely decorated if purchased in that state. I crafted a new bed I can lie on (canopy beds need to be fixed!), and tweaked the layout a little here and there, and I spend considerable time sitting on my shelf watching people go by.
As far as doing anything within... well, there's nothing to do in there. Maybe if I could get crafting stations, that would be something, but they're absurdly expensive, and I won't be getting those anytime soon.

Houses are fun and can be useful. Even if not for storage as such, though you can store furniture by just plopping it all down wherever, I port to guild members and friends houses all the time as a way to get around free. Also, it's fun to see how others decorate. Some do virtually nothing but others, OMG, some people have such amazing imaginations and do the most incredible things with their houses.

I agree, this is one of the reasons to have a house, to let others SEE it. However, it's just not possible to visit any house any time. The person who owns it has to be in your friends list or guilds, and has to have that house set to primary. I have several apartments and a couple of houses now... but no one will ever see them because Grymharth's Woe is now my primary.

Keep in mind that I love decorating houses in games, so for me is a YES, buy it.

I like Grymharth's Woe 'cause of its style, location (SNOW) and room disposition.
I wasn't sure for the yard, but then I've listed pro & cons and I've chosen this Nord house.

You can re create a sort of courtyard if you like :#
Obviously, if a garden is a must have for you, purchase another house.

    Note:
Houses are useful because of storage chests!!
I hope they'll add new functionalities, such as armor/weapon display, wayshrine, more NPC etc.

My decoration (not all of them, I skipped the kitchen/store and a lot of details, but is just for give you an idea; maybe I'll do a proper thread 45.gif)

The new EHT portal feature will let people who have access to your primary residence port to other houses you have made portals to. Just set up the portal/s and share with your friend and/or guild.

My take is that you get much better bang for your buck with something like Cyrodiil Jungle House or Twin Sands,
I feel that this house was something that was spat out without much effort or thought. I put it in the same category as the Malabal Tor house.... ill-conceived and overpriced!
But if you do buy it, I recommend looking at @Currygaminginc Christmas version of Old Mistveil. That video gives one of the best redesigns for the interior of this layout
