I also get bored very easily, so by the time I'm half way through I start leaving the default settings in place, so my characters will never be great works of art - unless you want to put them into the Picasso gallery.
Oh god I hated spending an hour making a character, then have to find a name that isn’t taken, have the game say it’s taken, look five more times and type them- taken and finally kicked for “being inactive”disintegr8 wrote: »I've got through to the naming stage on a new character and been kicked off, losing everything.

That's exactly what I have tried to say. Thank you for finding the right words. The timer must be separated and increased, definitely. The time out while logged in game is 10 minutes, more or less.
The time out while on character select is 2 to 5 minutes.
Chargen is done on the Character Select Screen.
Therein lies the problem, we need a separate timer for Chargen.
Or at least a way to save progress, either manually with a warning message to give us a chance to save. Or, better yet, the warning message can be clicked to extend the time. Of course, that won't help the folks who make tea while creating a character....
Hey, that was crucially vital!Or at least a way to save progress, either manually with a warning message to give us a chance to save. Or, better yet, the warning message can be clicked to extend the time. Of course, that won't help the folks who make tea while creating a character....

I'll admit to wandering off to make a cup of tea or feed the cats... Perhaps a warning message with a really loud beep would help

Didn't know it is a thing. I choose the name beforehand. One more reason to separate and increase the timer, I suppose.Just editing a char does not time out (unless one takes a 2+min to meditate looks / making tea / toilet break) but trying different names after getting it perfect does not count as being active and does too often eats the work.
I myself prefer as short name as possible so choosing one that is not already in use can take some significant tries. I think I've timed out on naming every character I've created at least once.
