One, because they don't know the game enough to think outside the box, an follow the same guides as you, and just as blindly as you too, and two, because it may give them a tiny edge, enough to get by and do the content they want to do.

If you want to blame anyone, blame people like alcast that do a great job at putting attainable builds out, as well as very high end builds.

I, for one, like this aspect because it makes pugging less of a hassle(imagine, just imagine...) And makes my life as guild leadership easy, having a place to point my lovely newcomers when they ask for deeper guidance than julianos/hunding's/shacklebreaker plus whatever else you like, until you get to know the game.

I dont play with meta stuff nor I follow guides.
