Maintenance for the week of March 30:
• [COMPLETE] ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – April 1, 1:00PM EDT (17:00 UTC) - 5:00PM EDT (21:00 UTC)

Why hasn't there been an official response to the STILL persistent hacks being used in Cyrodil & BG?

This never went away, it's just modified. Many of us know it, we talk about it in game, on discord, in our facebook gamer groups. Yet here on the forums? Deafening silence, closing of threads, deletion of others showing video proof.

Earlier in the week we saw a recent post-summerset video of a Russian player flying, jumping over keeps, landing with zero damage from heights that make Vaults of Madness look timid, turning invisible to players and guards, shooting players off walls while invisible so that they couldn't fire back, running amongst zergs un-noticed while walking through AoEs and occasionally killing enemy players casually in them. And what was the ZOS response to that?

Delete the thread and never talk about it. Meanwhile over on Youtube the (apparently well known among themselves) hackers & exploiters are still laughing back and forth and high-fiving each other in the comments about it.

I searched google for 5 minutes cleverly disguised under "ESO Hacks" and found 11 videos since January, as well as videos detailed the app being used to activate/deactivate them.
What are you doing ZOS? :disappointed:

i got info that the devs working on it and i also know the author who made the video and the so called "hack" u talk about. its rather a bug exploit then anything else.

FOR EVERYONE TO UNDERSTAND. this game is checking every action of urs server sided and THIS is also the reason of lags that can occure. the guy in the video got banned

this game is save dont worry as i stated i know the author and i know devs are working on it so chill out a server sided tracking is the best system.

korean games use anticheat programm to have less strain on the servers but its more or less easy sometimes to go around that on the other hand a server sided calculation is unhackable THATS why u wont see cheat programms on ANY CHEAT FORUM about ESO .

Cheat Engine (and other hacking tools like it) never stopped working ...

I don't understand why people thought that the perma bans (which apparently weren't all that perma) equated to cheat engine being useless.

ZOS has a long history of sweeping the problem under the rug but the hard fact is that cheat engine never stopped working.
Every time ZOS did something to try to deal with CE exploits, CE simply adapted.

It's 100% just a data migration. Anti-cheat software would be downloaded through a patch, if that's what they were doing.

So it can get the thread deleted instead of being talked about? I can link a video right now of the exact app being used in these so-called "exploits."

I don't see how they can fix it. If they made movement server side could you imagine playing in cyrodill at primetime? What I want to know is how it's even possible to go invisible.
Overload rework. Power Overload now does physical damage and grants you the power of a tornado: You throw a brick at the target with a light attack, and you hammer your head into that brick with every heavy attack. We have decreased its Ultimate cost, but increased the chance that you get stuck in the animation.

As for why there hasn't been an official response, ZOS are trying to hush it up to prevent another cheat engine fiasco. Made a thread on their subreddit a few days ago and it was promptly deleted with a message saying they are aware of the issue. Hopefully next patch fixes the issue.

No, in the threads I've seen it does not get toxic at all. Sidenote, aren't you the person commenting on the hack videos saying it's just exploits and this player isn't hacking? As for people downloading it after hearing about it, after the entire cheat engine thing went down weren't there like 40 or so players which ended up getting banned for it? Doesn't seem like it would be a huge issue if word got out about this.

    @Uryel
In a perfect world, you would be correct.
The problem is that ESO used to use a "trusted client" model which caused the bot apocalypse at PC launch (many of us beta testers had warned ZOS about that) and they have been band-aiding their broken trusted client system every since.

Yes, they have moved many calculations to the server side but many still remain client side.
They simply *obfuscated* the memory locations, the way values are stored and the way they are used for client side calculations.
And some of the server side checks are only "sanity" checks that look for client side values that are completely out of whack.

In short, anyone who knows what they are doing (or uses a tool like CE) can still manipulate many client side variables and the client will happily send those altered values to the server and the server will happily accept them as truth.

Do you think they can fix it?

Yes they probably could fix it given enough allocation of resources and money. The bigger question is will they. They weigh the cost Benifits analysis. How much does it cost to fix it? Is only a handful of people cheating out of hundreds of thousands of legit players playing? Is it worth it to fix it? Pvp is free to play in base game. Is fixing a free gameplay feature worth the money and time?

My own personal opinion is when they designed the game they didn't do so with security in mind. They didn't budget for it. They currently don't have the money. They don't have the money to fix the lag else they would have fixed it years ago. They don't have the money to fix the hacking else they would have in 2016 when it was first exposed.

Don't get your hopes up. That's why they sweep it under the carpet because they don't want to address it. Sir Andy is right. They just use a bandaid fix to obfuscate the problem and make it hard for the average script kiddy. It's cheaper that way versus implementing a full fix to stop the actual hacker.

Cheat Engine (and other hacking tools like it) never stopped working ...
I'm certainly no cheat expert, but doesn't cheat engine simply edit values in RAM ? It would be perfect to cheat on a solo game, but in any environnment that has any actions checked by the server, setting your HP to 10 zillion simply wouldn't work :/
    @Uryel

That is the best I have heard it said relative to what I have been told by those better connected than myself. The main effect of ZOS changes seems to have been that cheats are now harder to do and a smaller, more elite, group of people have them when compared to the cheat apocalypse they had a few years ago. This group does seem to have grown a bit lately though and been more brazen when it comes to the obvious cheats like flying around and hacking into keeps. This is making it harder for the L2P crowd who is secretly running cheats to deny that such things exist and that they really arn't just that good.

It is not possible to both have the trusted client model and also have the policy of not really coming down hard on players when they are caught if you have any intention of fighting cheats. ZOS probably has to have the trusted client model as there are too many things going on too quickly to do them server side and have a playable game. They have chosen to do the light punishment thing and have tried to back it up with very aggressive legal action against any websites who host any information on how to cheat in there game. The result of this just seems to have been to make an elite group of insiders with the hacks that are basically unkillable in PVP and run though PVE content like it is comically easy.

It is my hope that, at some point, ZOS will make a genuine effort to address these things. I doubt it though.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

What I don't get it is why would people cheat and risk a ban anyway? Wouldn't that mean losing the ability to play and then buy the game a second time?

    Why do people troll?

People in general, more so Internet gamers, are just a bunch of sickos who get joy in making other peoples lives miserable at minimal cost. Look at how people treat each other on the forums or in game. No one is ever wrong on the forums, everyone has to get the last word in, and many people t-bagg in game for whatever sick reason they have. Everyones an arm chair quarterback and thinks they are gods gift to the gaming world. Some people think they are a professional lawyer. It's quite hilarious. Internet gaming is very competitive and cheaters will rationalize their actions any way possible.

Some streamers cheat because its good for business. People think your pro, donate and subscribe and then instant "profit."

Many people who cheat believe they won't get caught. You can configure the cheat programs to give you just enough resources that fall within the non cheat detection thresholds. For example, someone may have 2k magicka regen. Bump it up to 2.5k and the anti-cheat wouldn't know the difference. If you bumped it up to something outrageous like 6k, it would flag and you would get banned.
