Evening everyone.

I want to preface this thread by saying that I'm on my phone and am pretty new to this forum, so I have no clue how to link. I know for sure that "link please" would be asked and rightly so, sorry for that.

Today on a smoke break at work I read the most interesting article. It was from arstechnica.com. The article said that in an industry first, Microsoft would allow players of the game paradox direct access to game mods made by players on pc without any preapproval from the game maker or Microsoft. That's a pretty direct quote.

I would like to discuss the implications that this could have on the console community of ESO. If sony were to follow suit, I believe this could open up a bevy of oppertunity for us on console.

I really believe that Sony would have to be on board before this could become real, due to zos not wanting to be seen as playing favorites between the two.

To wrap up, I will say this could be an awesome boon to us on console. Having mods would be a fantastic OPTION in my opinion. Of course some will disagree, but who doesn't love options?

I'd love to hear what you guys think.

I saw the same article. I think that it could open up ui add-ons for console but of course not anything that changes fundamental game mechanics or textures ala Skyrim SE. It will be interesting to see what comes of it for console MMOs.

Does this mean that some of the pc mods wouldn't make the cut? I'm not familiar with the mods on pc, so Idk if they're changing fundamental game mechanics, but I wouldn't think so. Unless stuff like map pins and mini map and stuff are fundamental mechanics. I know mini map is already there, correct? All mods do is use stuff the game already supports ? Something called api's I think.

@twisttop138 None of the UI (user interface) add-ons for ESO on PC mess with mechanics. Skyrim's mods or fallout mods on console can add weapons, armor, rework leveling systems etc, which can change the mechanics of how the game functions. There's no possibility they'd allow that kind of thing on an mmo simply because of how MMOs are coded. They aren't currently allowed on PC ESO either.

Long story short, it could mean qol add-ons like better waypoints, map markers, equipment swap etc could come to consoles but not the retextured armors or custom spells the single player titles have.

This would be epic but I think there would have to be people willing to make some of the mods or add ons work for console. Which im sure some people on console could like they did with porting other peoples mods to skyrim..

However, I think that if zos has to lift even one finger for this to happen we will never see it.

*And it wouldnt be mods, It would only work with add ons since this is an mmo. I think there is a difference, but any mods like the ones in skyrim would never work since they alter the game too much.

You bring up a couple good points. I'm of the opinion that the modding community, at least some of them would welcome being able to bring their work to console. We have a fantastic community, so the availability of mods doesn't concern me.

Your second point does, however, have me concerned. I know the game has issues, but I'm not one to harp. I will say though, that I do believe that if enabling Moda on console is a whole process, that zeni won't do it. Imo it's in their best interest to do so but to be fair, there is much about the process (read 'most') that I have no understanding of. It may not be possible.

Maybe someone with a greater knowledge can enlighten me.

There are already mods for Skyrim and Fallout 4 on Xbox. There have been for a couple years now. I've been complaining about this for some time as I switched from the PC version of ESO to the XB1 version and there are some MAJOR holes in the game without mods. The auction house has been totally useless for years. It can be rewarding for people that invest the time into using it but it is so pathetic that many people just skip it.

While the investment in making a system work with mods is expensive, I truly believe that mods are 1/2 the reason for the success of Skyrim and Fallout...well maybe a 1/4. It would breath new life into the game and bring people back that get so frustrated by gaps in the game that mods could fill.
