Game Not Launching After Clicking PLAY

MrAlabama
MrAlabama
Just bought the game tonight. Everything appears to have downloaded and installed correctly. The launcher opens fine and appears to be functioning properly. However, when I click PLAY, the cursor appears to be busy for several seconds but, the game never launches. After a few seconds the PLAY button will light up again but, continues to repeat the same process without launching the game. I was able to Run Tests through the launcher and have attached the report.

This is my exact same problem, what is up with this?

Not sure. I've made sure my firewall isn't blocking (even tried with it turned off). Made sure my video card drivers were up to date as well as Direct X and everything else I can think of. Hopefully we'll get a fix soon.

I had the same problem on my PC. This never happened until the game went offline for a few hours during the day on 4/7. Hasnt been working since. Downloaded it to my MAC, and it works. Maybe something to do with the updates and PC (?)

It happens to me some times too. I have a way that functions half the time though.
I open up my Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del -or- Right-click far right of Task Bar on the clock) and define priority to the highest (Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe)
I don't even know if that is the best way but half the time it automatically pops open to me. I hope that helps.

    *Edit*
If it doesn't work, I stop the process and start it again.

If you don't have a UserSettings.txt file in your Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\Live folder try copying and pasting the one available from this official thread. You need to scroll down some to reach the "Pressing the Play button on the launcher and nothing happening ("grey play button"). " section. The file info is attached there under the Spoiler. Doing so has helped others resolve the No Play - Play button issue.

Same problem here, without any solution from technical support :(

    Hello MrAlabama,

    I have reviewed your "Report.txt"

The driver's date for your Geforce GTX 660 TI is 10/27/2013

Please try upgrading your Graphics Drivers. Here is a link:

    www.nvidia.com

Make sure you have permissions open in your Antivirus Program. Add an exception for the game, if you have not done so already.

If you still have issues I can create a Ticket for you. Or you can submit one. You may need addtional troubleshooting.

    Hi ZOS_MichaelD ,

Thanks for the response. I have upgraded my drivers since running that test and I'm still getting the same issue with the launcher not launching the game.

    Hey MrAlabama,

Alright we got you. I'll get a ticket made for you. We probably have to do more advanced troubleshooting. Send us a "msinfo32.nfo" when you receive the email.

Thanks again, ZOS_MichaelD. I have a ticket going now so you may want to withdraw the one you started. I will respond to the one in my email just in case.

I found the reason my launcher didn't start was because even though it said PLAY it didn't have all the patches installed. To fix this restart your launcher go to Game Options and run Repair. It will check to make sure you have all relevant patches and your game folder is complete. When that is done it should start downloading a patch you missed. Worth a shot, best part is you can do it why you go eat something or watch TV.

Set your launcher to run as administrator. I had the same problem and this worked for me.

I run as administrator every time I open. I have also tried running the games repair tool through the launcher multiple times and it has fixed nothing so far.

I'm sure hoping to get more help than the canned responses I'm getting from the ticket I filed. The customer service with this game is beginning to feel like a bunch of amateurs are running the show.

My thread, translated from french. It helped some folks, even if for the main problem there is still no solution / support from the technical team : QQ

I'm actually having a back and forth with them now via email after filing a ticket. However, they've yet to come up with a fix. Hopefully, a solution will be discovered soon. I'll post it here for you guys if tech support is actually able to figure something out. I've done all I know to do on my end.
  • sboubub16_ESO
    Problem solved.

The technical service ask you to change the value of "SET RequestedNumThreads" in the "UserSettings.txt" in My documents/The Elder Scrolls Online/Live

But the right folder is /liveeu and not /live for european customers. There is another file named "UserSettings.txt" where "SET RequestedNumThreads" value have to be changed to "0".

I hope it will solve all your problems guys =)

Thanks for the response, sboubub16_ESO. I've already tried that as one of the "fixes" suggested by tech support. So far, nothing has worked.

Thanks to everyone that has offered a solution but, I'm not interested in jumping through any more hoops in order to get this game to work. I've already asked for a refund. Thanks again and good luck to you guys.

I have had this trouble for the last couple days. Anyone come up with a fix from Dev?

I've never had a problem launching the game until it became available on Steam. I could only get the game to launch yesterday when Steam was running. Tonight, no luck. Maybe just a coincidence but very frustrating.

Hate to unsubscribe to a good game due to this silly issue.

Pro Tip: Form a group of 4 and hang out with the zerg. Now you can claim you only run with 4. I'm l33t

I had an issue where bit defender blocked eso.exe, this was the antiviral section and not my firewall, so check the logs in your antivirus, even with game mode on it was blocking it
