Ambient Occlusion Issues

Recently returned to the game after several years, saw there were some new (to me) Ambient Occlusion options and decided to give them a try.

I really liked the SSAO option, made the shadows nice and deep. But then I noticed a kind of white-ish aura or glow around my character that seemed more apparent when looking at him against a dark background. HBAO has a similar issue, though not as obvious. Turning off AO seems to fix the issue, but I really want to keep SSAO on.

Any suggestions?

I realize this probably should be in Tech Support but I figured I might get a better answer here. I am on my phone at the moment so I can't post my PC spec's. It's about 4 years old now, but still a decent rig. All drivers are up to date.

Edit:

Screenshots. It is a little difficult to see from these still images but the glow is there, it encompasses the full model and is much more apparent when he moves.
