Camping

I'm sure this has been suggested before, but I didn't see it anywhere and thought it deserved another mention in any case.

Tonight, I was out in Eastmarch exploring as night began to fall. There were no houses or other civilized locales about for me to go and sleep at, and I once again found myself wishing I could put down a campsite.
They used to have this kind of thing back in Star Wars Galaxies. A campsite could be of different sizes, and would act as a social spot people could shuttle to (handy when grouping).

I'd love to see this sort of thing in this game. It wouldn't have to be elaborate, a simple campfire (which I could extinguish or relight), and a tent or lean-to with a bedroll would be sufficient. I envision them as being consumable craftables, probably made by tailors or woodworkers. The campfire could be used for cooking, and it could appear on the map like a wayshrine. Ideally, it would remain in place until the character who created it moves a short distance away from it. There would also need to be a limit of one such camp within a certain radius, to avoid them appearing everywhere.

What do you think?

As a former SWG ranger, I agree.

Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

Well, it wouldn't have any particular combat effect, so I can see that not everyone would use it. However, there are plenty of us who play to be immersed in the setting (even if we're not actually RPers), and I think many of us would like it.

As I see it, it wouldn't take anything away from anyone, so why not?

Could the campfire not be like a collectible that lasts for a few minutes or so?

Placement on the ground may be a little tricky so it may have to be like a firepot rather than sticks and flames perhaps.

Yes we have houses but sometimes it is a long walk between them.

A place to nap along the way is a good idea. Maybe sometimes we can stop and share a drink?

More stopping and thinking and napping and drinking is a good thing yes. Tamriel is a busy world and we all need to rest now and again.

Imagine how beautiful at night also after a long journey to see the campfire of a fellow traveller in the distance and know that they might have hot food you can sit and look at until they feel guilty enough to offer it to you yes.

A collectible was the only way presently that this one could see a traveller being able to place something in the world. We cannot presently place furnishings or things like that.

Unless it is like a summoned pet campfire?

Ya, something like that, or perhaps it would activate like an AOE power (Volley, for example), so you could place it where you wanted it.

A collectible campfire we can make that lasts a couple minutes and everyone can use like a cooking station sounds fun. And useful. We already have the jubilee cakes, this wouldn't be that different.

Just queued up and forgot your food? 'Gimme a second guys while I make some fire and cook me some dinner.' or 'anyone know how to make fire? I just ran out of food.' Don't see why not. But make the interaction box small, or the campfire small. I can already see people trolling trial doors by placing them over there.

Edit: also, for those cities where the cooking station is placed so far away from the other crafts and the writ delivery points. Mournhold, I'm looking at you.

I really like the idea, shouldnt be too hard as a memento to implement. Could link some neat exploration achievement to it.

I use camping mods in Skyrim, and really like using it to take screenshots. I'd like the ability to do this in ESO, but as a collectable. I don't want to see development times go into making a proper camping system.

The only way camping should be implemented is in cyrodiil so we can kill the people wanting to camp. This is a game not a camping simulator.

I think if the maps were like cyrodill size it'd be useful. But personally I don't feel they would be used much. You can ride between shrines pretty quick really...

Having said that I think it's a cool idea. I think it could be cool to have multiple camp sites placed close together. People could build small communities!

Not sure how often it would be used but it's neat.

SWG was a more social friendly game. I don't think ESO will ever be like that. Camps, player towns, cantina's is just what made swg a great game until they screwed it up.

Could have a memento that places a camp on the world for 5 mins or so on. Granted the troll potential is massive lol 100 players spamming campfires on Wayrest or something like that. Can't be worse than mudballs and crows though.

Maybe a campsite home to buy for a small fee or free upon completing a quest in certain zones, like the free starter rooms. That way it would be a separate instance to enjoy in different settings. :)

Or just collect the new life bonfire and put it on your home's landscape and create your own campsite with the furnishings to give it the look you would like. Seeing that they have traveling merchants already that repair and buy your junk, Idk if they would add this feature.

To prevent trolling with the campsites, they need only be made non-collidable. That way they couldn't be used to block anything. I also mentioned that they could place a limit of only one campsite within a certain radius, again to avoid hundreds of camps in one place.

There is no need for camping in eso as was in swg. In swg you had buff's that required special locations, we have no buffs.

I know a couple of places where I would like to camp in Tamriel. One of them is under a volcano, so I hope it won't rain flaming rocks, since I don't think anybody in Tamriel provides lavaproof tents except for the Ashlanders

    I love this idea.

You'd have to set limits on it so it isn't abused, if you were to add utility outside of cooking. But, just for the flavor it would add to the game, bring it on!

That would be fine, that would be realistic. I mean, you can't just set up a campsite in the middle of Toronto, can you?
