    Has been a bug for a while.

    I set ground AoEs to instant cast in game options which seems to mitigate it -- you do need to aim more efficiently without the target :smile:

    Yup my gripe is when rhe cast is supposed to be instant but erm, isnt

    The skill has a target -- first press opens the target, you position it and hit the skill again to 'instant' cast it. The link explains how to set it to single click/press. That's what I meant by setting ground AoEs to instant.

    Are you still getting the problem with that setting on? Because that's what mitigates the bug for me. With this setting on, you can sometimes have a miss-cast if you block, roll or light attack too soon, or don't allow for cooldown of previous skill (there's still a slight anim delay).

    I still have issues even with instant cast on, yes.
    Circle goes down and gets smaller, but fails to trigger at the last instant...not only that, but will sometimes take magicka from my resource pool, even though there's no effect.
    There's another issue where the circle for the cast goes down with instant cast, but it delays by a second or two before it goes off, and can be canceled if you're going in your rotation too fast.

    Very frustrating, especially in vMA.

    (assuming you mean really the delay and not just forgot to put quick cast to on)

    Yeah. I get that sometimes too. I intentionally slow down especially for it. I start my rotation with LL, and don't LA weave it. Yes that's a drop in dps for every initial second it gets cast, but it avoids the frustration of not casting and loosing out on 10 seconds of additional damage.

    Regardless of how to efficiently work around it, it is still a bug -- varying degrees of impact based on familiarity with it.

    Yeah, quick cast still isn't true instant cast. I think LoS screws with Liquid Lightning, it's very easy to fail on uneven terrain. Meteor has a similar problem, btw! Very annoying.

    Still does not cast reliably, miss casts, delay or does not cast at all.

    Fwiw shards and healing springs can have the same defect. Its a weird side effect... But slowing down does help. Isn't much, but all I got for you. Its been reported MANY times

    I’m always set to instant cast and this bug is horrific with Endless Hail and Caltrops.

    I’ve had it many times where I’ve cast Endless Hail, light attack, Caltrops, barswap, move around but I can’t fire off any skills until I’ve stopped moving the targeting reticle (as if the setting is off) so Caltrops can fire off which is now on the wrong bar.

    This IS STILL NOT CASTING AT TIMES, even on first cast with no other cooldowns in effect, even casting WITHOUT animation cancel fails to cast.

    I just spent a few days playing a bow-bow build, with Endless Hail being basically the only damage skill on the back bar, and had a whole lot of several-second skill freezes.

    It's not the first time I rant about this. I hate how Spears and Liquid Lightning cancel compared to other abilities. Endless Hail perfectly cancels and I wish those 2 would do the same, instead are clunky af.

    @ZOS I'm okay with canceling, though abilities should properly cancels the same way. Try yourself, cast spears or liquid lightning, then cast endless hail, it's nothing as fast and with no delay whatsoever.

    This is definitely one of the more annoying bugs.

    There have been times that I've activated the skill and even heard the sound effect from it, but it didn't actually activate so I have to cast it again. It has been around for a while.

    this happens frequently to me, probably from bar swapping too soon. the same thing happens to healing springs with the added headache of that skill sometimes not being usable for a bit.

    Ground AoEs...

    If you cast immediately from sprint, they can miscast;
    if you have a slope in front of you, or LoS is obscured somehow, they can miscast
    if you weave them, they can miscast
    if you cancel via dodge roll or block, they can miscast
    if you light attack before the cast animation completes, they can miscast
    if you move before the target shrinks, they can miscast
    if you bar swap before the target shrinks, they can miscast

    you need to slow down your rotation, not weave, focus crosshair at ground below intended target to shorten the target resize time as workaround.

    It sucks, but we're a good few years in now, I can't see this changing.

    The problem is still here and more serious for some abilities. I use xbox controller on PC. Quick/auto cast is on.

    If I cast Templar's Spear Shards as the first ability in/before combat, there is no problem - target area is instantly marked and cast is always successful. But if I cast anything before that with light attack weaving, auto-targeting (with the yellow boundary) becomes much slower, and sometimes it doesn't fire at all if I cast something else before target area is completely marked (when the boundary stops moving).

    The delay could take like 2-3 seconds and it makes the ability highly unreliable - yet people still recommend them in builds!

    Its been happening for several weeks now. It takes a moment longer to register than it used to. Its a consistent bug though, so until they fix it (or acknowledge it as some unneeded, undocumented change for performance reasons), you just need to make sure you don't out-cancel it.
