Tel Galen (Telvanni styled mushroom house)

I recently played through Morrowind for the first time and I came across the Tel Galen house and immediately wanted to buy it, only to find out it's not purchaseable. So I looked up when it was available and read that it was only available for a while a few years back. With the Morrowind celebration coming up, I really hope they'll make it available again.

They did make some of the other previously limited time only houses available again at one point. So it's possible.

I'm not sure about Tel Galen though.

Like a great many others, I felt it was hideously ugly and Telvanni only in name. I did have enough crowns at the time to afford it but missed the limited time only sale by a month. And wasn't disappointed that I'd missed it.

The Morrowind (single player) Telvanni tower home remains a personal fave. So I toured Tel Galen and tried really hard to even tolerate it's grossly misshapen form and flesh atronach skin. But I couldn't.

It's easily the biggest artistic blunder in a game that I've seen. Surely literally dozens of ZO staff had the same aghast reaction as nearly everyone else. How did this abomination make it to release?

My hope was that they'd admit their blunder and try again. It'd be bloody hard to do worse. I'm sure most people who bought it would be happier with a proper Telvanni tower. And they could offer a crown refund to anyone who bought the original Tel Galen and didn't like it's more authentic replacement.

Oh yeah I agree for the most part, the Telvanni tower in Solstheim (Skyrim Dragonborn DLC) looks WAY better. The upper room is also way too small to be called a room even. It's just that it'll be the closest thing to a Telvanni home in this game, and that's why I want it. The outside is nice, but as you mentioned it's not really Telvanni styled. I would be all for a revamp of the current Tel Galen home, but if they don't do that, I'd atleast like to get the house available again.

I found it really weird that the tower looks so big on the outside but is really really tiny inside. Anyways, I'd still like it if they make it available again, I'd argue that it was a bad idea to remove it in the first place because it's such an iconic place (as in it's a Telvanni mushroom house) and is really great for role players. It doesn't need a timer on it to drive sales.

Totally understand the feeling. I miss my shroom tower.

If I'd won it in like those end of year giveaway boxes, I'd probably have used it. Possibly teleporting in and out so I NEVER had to see the hideous exterior.

But paying real money and so much for it?

I don't know what I'm going to do. Probably just add to this to huge pile of ways-ESO-disappoints-compared-to-the-single-player-games, like having classes etc. etc.

It was a massive blunder. Morrowind single-player is still a fan favourite and it's really the game which made the company.

ESO's DLC version had the potential to tap into that and they screwed themselves not only by doing the towers so badly, but also by making them crown store only. For anyone who loved that home, it effectively more than doubled the cost of the DLC. Which would have lost them DLC / box sales.

And being limited time only, yeah even worse.

From memory it was also the first (or nearly) playable race style manor to be crown store only. It set a bad precedent. After that I now assume that the remaining playable races which don't have manors won't ever get them, except in the crown store. Which is what happened with Murkmire. Making those races much less appealing.

Flipside - the game already sucks balls for magic users.

With all magic locked in classes and only a single magic weapon skill line, and spellcrafting having been teased but now almost certainly never going to happen, a lot of fans of the single-player Telvanni towers probably wouldn't play ESO anyway.

Yeah just found out and came back to update this post. Really happy, but yeah the way they do these kinds of things isn't really customer friendly. I don't think we can do anything about it though. This game is going to run out of content soon anyway, as in most of Tamriel is already in the game, so it won't be online for more than a decade longer. Don't think they're even allowed to touch all regions of Tamriel, let stand regions outside of it.

As consumers we become more poach-able. Ripe for the pickings by some other hungry little game developer. That's who'll do something about it.

TES single player games made the company fabulously rich by allowing players delicious freedom of character customization and within the world.

ESO crammed us into classes, teased spellcrafting and then didn't deliver, etc. etc.

TES single player games offered even more freedom to players courtesy of modding.

ESO gave us *** systems and UI's which practically force the use of addons. But nobody is fooled. Addons ain't mods. And of course things like houses and mounts which are free as addons have been very pricey from the crown store.

Over at Skyrim, several attempts have also been made to monetize modding which haven't been warmly received.

The company is abandoning it's heartland.

I reckon it potentially has a lot more life in it than that.

    And they haven't covered everything.

Have you ever looked closely at the map UI? It goes all the way up past Tamriel to The Aurbis (aka everything).

    https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Aurbis

I don't think anything is off limits.

Though their having done a DLC for both Morrowind and dealing with dragons, and having covered all of the familiar playable race's homelands I am curious to know what next year could bring. Arguably Murkmire was a bit meagre and Argonians could do with more coverage but unfortunately I don't think they're that popular.

Seems like geographically they've covered Valenwood, but where's the Falinesti (their walking tree capital)? If it's not in Valenwood it must be elsewhere.

Like one the many and varied planes of Oblivion. Which Falinesti or not could serve as DLC zones.

Ever since they re-released Pariah's Pinnacle, I had assumed that Tel Galen would be available again during the Morrowind Anniversary Event, so no surprise, really.

I think it's great that they're offering it for sale again. I understand the LTO tactics and don't mind them as much now, considering they've brought lots of things back already, even ones that made their way into crates, and some even at a discount.

As for Tel Galen itself - yes, I was disappointed in Morrowind's Beta to see what they did with the iconic Telvanni mushroom homes. I suspect that they were trying to make them look substantially different from the Bosmer tree homes, which are much closer to the Telvanni towers than what is in ESO. Plus, I think they were trying to show that the Telvanni were only just starting to grow mushroom towers, so early attempts were with already existing structures and they were still learning to control the growth of the mushrooms. At least, that's the story I came up with to try and deal with the disappointment.

In any event, when I actually viewed the home furnished, I could see it's potential and it really looked cozy. So, I bought it furnished (MW plans were basically non-existent at that point, so I wanted some furniture to start with), for 10,000 crowns. It's one of the cheapest CS only homes (only recently lost it's cheapest status to the Snowglobe gimmick home, which I detested). Unfurnished is 8,000 crowns, and MW furniture is pretty cheap now.

I'm glad you have the chance to purchase it. You and so many other players who either missed the original sales window or started playing after the home was for sale.

Someday, the Telvanni coast and Port Telvannis will be a chapter. A whole Telvanni chapter.
I hope that then, we will get more mature mushroom towers that use a less... unfortunate color for the mushroom portions.

Until then however, Tel Galen presents an opportunity for some creative decorating and lighting to minimize the slick, raw flesh pink interior.

    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

I previewed Tel Galen today. It looks like a tumor. I have fond memories of the original Morrowind mushroom towers and Tel Uvirith (which I heavily modded to make it even better) and Tel Galen doesn't resemble them. It looks more like something you'd study in oncology school.

    This is what we needed:

I really like it. I like the organic mixed with the built structure. Went ahead and bought it furnished since I wanted most of those furnishings anyway and it was cheaper to get it as a package. But I am going to do a lot of creative rearranging. I also want to see if I can get on top of those mushrooms and put stuff up there if so.

I do want to put a lot of the Psijic furniture in there too as I think it would look awesome and work well with the existing style. As it is I may end up taking a ton of glowing plants, enchanted lights, flowers, and trees from another property to use at Tel Galen instead. It is likely to end up being my primary residence so it's going to get the best of what I have so that means my other homes will have to be redone with what's left LOL.

I think that comes from attempts to mask its hideousness.

I toured it again yesterday and thought I could try covering the ugly with x, y, z but in the end the picture of the house I had in my mind was less hideous but still not a Telvanni mushroom tower.

    And certainly not worth $80.
I previewed Tel Galen today. It looks like a tumor.

Telvanni Tumor Towers. That's what I called them when giving feedback in the open beta.

Granted, the Telvanni are giant cancerous *** but it wasn't necessary to make their houses look like them.

The bad guys having great architectural style is a fine Elder Scrolls tradition, eg. the Ayleids.

I have wondered if someone in ZO's housing department has a meat fetish.

I might have been happy with Bosmer pods except they're crammed to the gills with dead animal parts. While I know that in the case of Bosmer that fits their culture, the concept art for their pods doesn't have tusks framing most doors. And they could have given us dirt floors.
