More Skill Lines?@Zos

Looking for feedback on the idea, also feel free to tag any @ZoS employees if you would like.

Basically, every patch we get more and more armor sets, but what would you say to more skill lines being introduced? Skill lines such as more weapon skill lines and guild skill lines. More skills could greatly add to the diversity of the game.

And it would add greatly to the number of people complaining that they have to level yet another skill line because of the one skill they feel they can't live without.

Seperate skill lines for Blunt, Slashing and Stabbing Weapons (have already been in ES games before)

More spell skill lines: Alteration, Mysticism, Illusion, Destruction and Restoration being seperate from Staves.

Not enough bar space for more skill lines. Yet another downside to the decision to go with two 5 button hotbars.

What I was getting at with this was different options for combat set ups. Aside from the whiners why would this not be a good idea? How is it any different than adding 6+ new sets every patch that you have to go grind dungeons or daily quest content to achieve the set pieces? Instead you would level it just like any other weapon line (equip that type of weapon) or complete new story lines if they were added in as guild skill lines.

Spears. And One hand and Rune.

Please! The Altmer Hero from the cinematics can wield a sword and spells! Also, Morrowind nostalgia:

I wouldn't complain if we got some more, especially ones to fill missing gaps (unarmed, spear, crossbow) but I would also love to see some of the older lines expanded and added to.

I wouldn't mind seeing new magicka weapons, say wands or cesti. Or something that catches my fancy. But I also feel a little overwhelmed by everything on offer so far. I guess I'd have to see what the new line was.

@TiZzA93 Yeah, tho it's not as fascinating than dealing serious damage with a punch and skill line which would be dedicated for it. Closest we get now is when unequipping all weapons and just going to fist fight. But at that point when we do that, we decrease our weapon damage too. :/

I see no reason why they don't spend resources on additional skills. It's baffling. Item sets just feel like gimmicks for the most part and would in most cases feel better as actual skills. The new Ice Wraith set is a perfect example - why does it have to be a proc and not a skill summon?

Why are we 5 years into development without a single new weapon???

My point exactly! I understand working in new skills may be more work but why not 2nd and 4th quarter dlcs and then the 1st and 3rd quart get sets with the dungeon dlcs? 5 years in is a long time playing with the same old weapons and skills.

Why not both? Let's get monster sets that, instead of just giving you a passive proc, actually allows you to slot an active ability on your bar!

Really we do it without like, the musical instruments. This is the only musical: the mouth. And hopefully the brain attached to the mouth. Right? The brain, more important than the mouth, is the brain. The brain is much more important.

The problem with that would be the lack of buttons on console. Sure it could work for PC and they only way it could on console is if they chose to support keyboard and mouse which they have already said they won't do.

I prefer new skill lines over new classes. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of the necro class, but my play time is somewhat limited and I like to continue to work on achievements on my main character.

The nice thing about extra (useful) skill lines are they add additional elements and builds to the game. They give people the option to add those skills to their build.

I would love an unarmed skill that allows for melee magicka or stam. It would add such a cool element to pve and pvp.

    No.
Please no. For every skill line that gets introduced, at least one or more skills/passives become required for meta builds. And for each skill line ZOS releases they get more and more mind numbingly miserable to level up, let alone on many characters. I'd rather get new classes, or even better yet, something we haven't had yet: new weapons. Edit: Yeah weapons are skill lines lol. When OP said "skill line" all i could think about is guild/world/assault/support/equally horrifyingly painful skills to grind. Weapons are ez pz to grind so I don't really count those as "new skill lines" because every new skill line has been world/guild.

No, I don't mean it would increase the number of skill slots. I just mean the skill would appear in the menu while the Helm/Shoulder is equipped and you could slot it in the existing 1-5 slots just like any other ability.

I can see why people say yes to this and why some say no to this. No because we already have a lot of skill lines, at the same time we are indeed missing several that were in Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrowind. An example that was posted above was spears, aka polearms. As for magic we are also missing a few such as illusion and alteration.

However if any further skill lines whatsoever were to be added, we might need more bar space. Not to large like room for 10 abilities, but maybe room for 7.

    Yes.

I think adding a magic tome that can do a few really strong spells, that take 9 seconds to cast, would be really interesting. :o
Like how in Dragon's Dogma mages have to cast from far away and in safe spots or else they can't finish their spells. And they run out of mana fast too.
