Should the grocer items be worth gold when sold at the vendor?

If you go to the grocer, it cost 150g per! So why is the garlic , cheese , fish , etc, etc not worth anything when you get to sell it?

Most of the crafting mats are worth very little when sold to vendors, probably as an incentive to use them yourself or sell them to other players who will use them.

Provisioning mats are particularly cheap and plentiful on guild stores.

They're worth 10g apiece if you warm them up first.

I mean, yeah, it would be nice if they were worth at least 1 gold (same goes for lockpicks, but I don't want to derail the topic).

I assume by the fact your question even exists that you do not have ESO+ and therefore no craft bag. Honestly I have so many thousands of the food I forget it's even there and have no reason to sell it. If you're running into inventory management issues, my advice is to pick one or two recipes that you use frequently and only collect the raw mats required for those.

There's a lot of stuff in the game that for nonsensical reasons has a value of 0 when offered to npc merchants. I wish it wasn't like that, but what can you do?

With the abundance of provisioning ingredients in the game from farming and hirelings this would create massive inflation if this much gold was minted in game.

Make the highest level green recipes you can and vendor the results if you need to dump ingredients.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Just make everything that is 0 gold right now worth 1 gold instead. Still better than nothing but not enough to have a huge impact on the economy.

Maybe, but as Nestor said it will be some big issues for income.

Even at 1g which is the only amount I think is viable it would be crazy income for some of us playing since launch with the craft bags since their release.

Everything should be worth at minimum 1 gp.
I hate all these stupid white armor and weapons that are worth 0 gold.
Either make them 1 gp or make them un-interactable, like everything in the outlaw sanctuary is.

And you don't think that after playing for 5 years you may have actually earned some of that?

It goes back to a decision Zos made in beta. I do not recall the specific wording but it had to do with how easy it is to farm matts for gold so Zos removed their gold value.

As for NPC vendors selling them that is just for convenience, costly convenience.

Yeah, I view the NPC vendors selling them as basically an easy way to find a writ ingredient if, for some reason, you are out. Not as an actual source of ingredients, for sure.

Either make them into food to sell to a vendor (make sure you have the 4:1 passive unlocked) or sell the materials in a guild store. I've been selling the provisioning mats/low level crafting mats in a guild store for 3 years now... have made millions off of them over time.

I'm not opposed to giving them a value of 1 gold. At that price, I'm not sure how that would really suddenly boost a players income by a huge amount. I guess if someone is sitting on thousands of mats, they could just sell them all off.

However, one stack of provisioning mats (200) would be worth 200 gold. You could take that same stack, and with the (4:1) passive, you can make 800 servings, worth 800 gold. (I'm thinking of the Tier 1 recipes, which only use 1 mat and yield a crafted item worth 1g.) Now, no one is really going to take the time to do that, unless they're on PC and have the add-on that allows them to craft in bulk.

If players took the time, they could make a bit of gold from crafting the food - more than they could selling them for 1g each. But, without the PC add-on, it would be much too time-consuming, which is undoubtedly the reason why the vanilla game only allows us to craft one at a time.

But, I've found that provisioning mats sells fairly well on XB NA at 10g each. I've seen them much higher, of course, but I sell in stacks of 100. So, if you sell them in a guild trader, you're making a lot more than you would if you could just vendor them for 1g each. All other mats have a gold value, do they not? Correct me if I'm wrong. It's possible the furnishing mats don't have a gold value, but I know that ore/cloth/leather/wood do, in addition to the runes (maybe potencies and essences don't, but I know that the aspects do). Alchemy plants/solvents do, too, iirc.

I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other. Just giving food for thought. ;)
