Does ESO have too many undesired armor sets?

I was wondering how many people actually use sets like Lamia's Song or Toothrow and so on... The kind of sets that people don't use much in their YouTube builds. Are there too many sets in ESO that are throwaways?

It is just life. They add so many each year this is to be expected and really not a big deal. We have plenty of very good sets.

there will be always over preforming, and under preforming sets. you will probably not see the under preforming ones much.

Can't really say there are too many useless sets, because with the constantly updating nature of MMOs any of those sets could become popular again after some stat adjustment or combat change.

And some sets do have their niche uses in specific builds that would not generally show up on the main build showcases (which tend to stick to one meta for optimal deeps), so the number of situational useful sets is greater than the six or so BiS ones in most mainstream youtube builds. But I do agree that the sheer number of sets in ESO can be deceiving since effective choice is really only between the top 5-10% and you'd just be gimping yourself with the rest.

There is always a use for EVERY set...just not necessarily a meta set. There is no reason to have fewer options...that just reinforces pigeonholing that is already bad.

One could argue that the lack of viability is already a soft pigeonholing.

No problem with having options. I'm having a whole lot of fun finding uses for non-meta sets. Kvatch gladiator is my current favorite for instance.

Way too many sets. I'd rather they improve on old sets a bit more often and introduce new sets a bit less.

I don't want to see sets removed completely, but slight tweaks to underused sets that remain in theme would be a welcome change. It's almost a joke that a new update comes out and the majority of the sets are just filler.

There are 4 or 5 sets that make me scratch my head. However, almost every set in the game I can use to make an effective build from it.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    This right here.

I just don't like sets that are a direct upgrade to other sets (death's wind/Draugr's Heritage, all of the craglorn minor slay/ageis sets, ect)
Obviously not counting the perfected/non perfected sets as they are implemented to be direct upgrades.

With the vast number of sets we have we still have a good number that perform well offering much choice. People make a big deal over what they call meta but in reality meta is different for different activities, even different trials. What is second, third, etc is really right in the same ball park and very viable.

So it is far from being pigeonholed.

Have to agree with this. Especially since we often look at sets from the very narrow view of how we play the game.

Yes. I try to use ones that aren't meta or BiS, but it really isn't worth it. Most definitely gear set bloat.

Can't go wrong with Mother's tears and Burnt Magic Weaver though
Since everyone seems to be doing this,

There are certain none meta sets that are still useful and viable choices be it in place of hard to get BiS sets or are just good but not quite as good as the BiS set, that being said there are quite a few sets that are a little bit worse than another sets but are harder or just as easy to obtain making them pointless to use since you might as well use the better option or they are just absolute rubbish no one seriously playing the game would use outside of really niche uses.

There's no such thing as an undesired armor set, as far as I'm aware. Folks play this game for different reasons. I regularly use "undesired" sets because I focus on character design. I also regularly ignore "desired" sets because they are locked behind accessibility barriers I simply do not have the time nor patience for. Finally, I do not watch smoobtube videos for this thing folks call "builds", so I wouldn't be walking to their tune anyway. Never been one to walk to someone else's tune... not wanting to start now.

Don't be knocking Toothrow. I have a pvp build I'm attached to that uses it. But overall, I would answer your question with a yes. Hell, even most of the new sets that drop in Cyro go straight to decon.

I'd say no because lots of random sets are fun to use in pvp for certian builds its one of the many reasons pvp is pretty fun.

I've always been in two minds about it. On one hand it makes tons of unique builds possible, but on the other hand it's kind of overwhelming, especially to newer players.

I think they definitely could cull a few of the more useless sets here and there.

I want them to revisit them. I have an attachment to the Lamia's Song set but I feel like it lacks an extra something that'll really make it hard to resist. Maybe boost the healing on the 5 piece bonus maybe.

a very small % of the eso community comes to this forum, asking these types of things here is useless if you want to see the truth of this subject.
would be best to simply send emails to all the eso players and get honest insight. by their @name

Viability for meta, top charts end game. Many of these "unviable"sets are pretty useful for many different play styles and causal fun builds, specially for people heavily focused on overland content. Examples would be full hybrid damage builds, Regen tank builds, SnB warrior builds... Maybe some weird assassin ones too. Lots of RPers and singke-player minded people in this game too.

Soft pigeonholed? Maybe a liiiittle bit, but just for the 1%. Causals don't care :)

would like to see some older sets changed to buff certain ultimates that never get used.
Insulting people on the internet is cowardly.
