Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

Cyrodill was fine during PvP event but now it's atrocious again. Why?

we dont need 7 instances of Rivenspire. Tune down Questing Areas a bit. When doing quest no one will care if your ultimate is starting after 0,1 secs or 0,2 secs. Just dont you get cheap on endgame content its where your actually paying costumers are lovely Zenimax people.

At this moment PvP is completely unplayable. Lags are so rampant that I just switched to my new pve char to do some quests to wait it out. I hope that zos will solve this issue asap as during the vent I really began to like pvp.

It looks to me that it isn’t the number of players on the server that causes lag, as much as it is the activity level of the players. Noob pveers spamming one skill, who you see flock to PvP in droves during the event, don’t tax the servers nearly as much as a player who’s casting lots of AoE DoTs and HoTs, and animation canceling like a pro, like you see in the better ball groups and experienced soloers. I think the experienced PvPers took one look at the Vivec queue and either queued for a different server or else just logged off like I did.

I heard some EU PC PVP Players are already creating Chars for the NA Server, because this server is more stable. This can´t cant be the solution.

Yes this is true. Even after the event. Shor, vivec were all pop-locked with 50+ que’s on xboxNA with very little lag. Even sotha Sil was extremely active with 2-3 bars. Now after the maintenance sotha has returned to its dead state. Shor rarely reaches 3 bars anymore. Vivec is now just the laggy sh*t show it was before the event. Not sure what happened but I guess zos just said screw the PvP servers and they’re now back to laggy trash

True, but did u notice that when event was people were complaining about lag and how it's unplayable in trials? but not seems trials are more playable than it was at pvp event. I guess they have limited resources and dont want to spend alot on pvp servers, oh well.

That seems to be the case. Seems they’ve allocated more resources to PvP.... if only they could even both out

Definitely a good question. The event was some of the best performance I’ve seen in a while given the pop sizes. Now I’m back to questionable performance even with lower pops. Maybe they were testing something and just have yet to implement it?

I think they lowered the caps in each camp. I mean, I know a lot of pve'er went in for their tickets and everything, but every single night Vivec Queue was 300-400.
Vivec usually has a Queue, but during the week it's only between 20-30.

    But its just a guess

If the answer to performance issues is that easy then why haven’t they done it? The campaigns still seemed super active even if they lowered the pops.

Very true. Like I said, it was just a guess.
During the event in PC/NA Vivec, it was soo much fun & so much smoother/no Disconnects the whole time. There was just about as much fighting as usual as well. 3 ways, large groups vs. large groups but all playable.
Now it is just the worst. All over the map.
Man, I wish they would say something about this

I have a completely BS theory!! I think they are running a mid-range system that has flexible pricing and they dynamically allocate just enough resources to make the game playable/unplayable depending on demand to manage costs.
  • Exodium

So far from what I've read it seems like the most suggested theory is that they have a dynamic resource distribution thing which changes based on demand.

Honestly this is a plausible theory and it begs the question as to why they can't enhance their server to always maintain stability regardless of what you're doing in the game. Is it a cost thing or just physically they can't do it?

I'm not letting this thread die until someone from ZoS explains why pvp was almost seamless during the event whereas now it's gone to the dump. After getting a taste of how good PvP can be in large scale environments I honestly think we deserve to know.

They leased some servers for event period :D

Honestly I genuinely think this is true or something along these lines.

There is absolutely no other explanation for the fact that during the PvP event cyrodill was fine. There weren't any glaring issues and there was even a poll somewhere on the forums asking how happy people were with the performance and I think 80-90% of people said they were satisfied.

Now all of a sudden the performance drops again (ironically with less players in Pvp cause of no event) and more forum threads are appearing about performance issues again.

"We’re currently in the process of updating the operation system of our databases "

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/456395/upcoming-scheduled-maintenances-on-all-live-realms

What does this mean though in relation to performance?

Maybe it means the servers are being upgraded from windows 95 and it's causing a ton of problems. I jest. :D

Hopefully during this upgrade period they also relocate them from the broom closet on the other side of the kitchen to a climate controlled server room.

I do agree and I think they did the event to test something new.

I also agree with this. But I’m also unlikely to re sub again until I see evidence of solid improvement with some transparency. I still enjoy playing but there’s just too many days where I log in to PvP and I just stop after 30 min to an hour because it’s just not worth the frustration.

There's a lot of us in the same boat. I'd love to play more but when I solely PvP nowadays it's almost impossible to get any enjoyment out of even the BG's because even they are laggy then you just end up doing/playing something else.

I know for a fact tonight I'll try 3 different servers and then BG's before turning it off and watching Netflix instead.

Think I am getting in the unsub until they do something with PvP group. Or at least not play. I hate to do it as the ~8 man group I run with seems to be gelling and I feel like getting 8 people who can work well together takes some work. Its just meaningless if we cant even get off abilities.

I have no idea why but roughly around this week (post-maintenance maybe?) the game has just imploded again in cyrodill.

Now if you guys recall, in the days or weeks preceding the PvP event people were complaining about how ridiculously laggy the servers were in PvP.

Then all of a sudden when the PvP event started the performance mysteriously improved and for the majority of the people on the forum, the major issues were gone (which is weird considering almost all campaigns were pop-locked, and even in Vivec with a queue of 300 I had no lag).

Now 1-2 weeks after the event is over, the same issues have resurfaced and cyrodill is back to its old garbage self.

Sometimes I feel like ZoS has a 'hyperdrive' switch and they choose to activate it when they want (10% of the time) and the other 90% of the time they just let their hamsters do the work.

Anyways, anyone else reporting similar issues since the event finished?

    ITS TRASH -Chaxgo1
