Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

Cyrodill was fine during PvP event but now it's atrocious again. Why?

I have no idea why but roughly around this week (post-maintenance maybe?) the game has just imploded again in cyrodill.

Now if you guys recall, in the days or weeks preceding the PvP event people were complaining about how ridiculously laggy the servers were in PvP.

Then all of a sudden when the PvP event started the performance mysteriously improved and for the majority of the people on the forum, the major issues were gone (which is weird considering almost all campaigns were pop-locked, and even in Vivec with a queue of 300 I had no lag).

Now 1-2 weeks after the event is over, the same issues have resurfaced and cyrodill is back to its old garbage self.

Sometimes I feel like ZoS has a 'hyperdrive' switch and they choose to activate it when they want (10% of the time) and the other 90% of the time they just let their hamsters do the work.

Anyways, anyone else reporting similar issues since the event finished?

Because they are milking the game for all the cash they can get and it feels like they are running it into the ground ready for closure.

Well that's what it feels like they are doing to pvp anyways.

Honestly I genuinely think this is true or something along these lines.

There is absolutely no other explanation for the fact that during the PvP event cyrodill was fine. There weren't any glaring issues and there was even a poll somewhere on the forums asking how happy people were with the performance and I think 80-90% of people said they were satisfied.

Now all of a sudden the performance drops again (ironically with less players in Pvp cause of no event) and more forum threads are appearing about performance issues again.

Connectivity is always horrid for me in Cyrodiil. Trying to earn that arena helm, but some days I don't think it's worth it...

Maybe they altered the mystical and proverbial juice. However, that would indicate that they kind of know how to address the problems. hmmmmm

The ball groups were spread out across various servers. Now they’re back to being concentrated in specific servers.

To be honest I still remember being on the fringes of hugeeee zerg fights in Vivec during the event and it wasn't that bad..

But now even with similar/less numbers in the campaign I get 2 second delays on skills with my whole skillbar greying out for like 2 seconds after dodge rolling. My fps sitting at around 5. I think there's something more to it.

Maybe it means the servers are being upgraded from windows 95 and it's causing a ton of problems. I jest. :D

Definitely a good question. The event was some of the best performance I’ve seen in a while given the pop sizes. Now I’m back to questionable performance even with lower pops. Maybe they were testing something and just have yet to implement it?

I think they lowered the caps in each camp. I mean, I know a lot of pve'er went in for their tickets and everything, but every single night Vivec Queue was 300-400.
Vivec usually has a Queue, but during the week it's only between 20-30.

    But its just a guess

If the answer to performance issues is that easy then why haven’t they done it? The campaigns still seemed super active even if they lowered the pops.

Yeah I was thinking they might have lowered the cap but then again they added like 3/4 new campaigns so I don't think thag is it.

As Vapriko said, the pvp event was the best performance I've had in this game in such a long time. I honestly want to know what they did to ensure that. I wish we would get some clarity. @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom @ZOS_MichaelM

Also wanted to add, the PvP event actually gave me hope that cyrodill can be a great option for PvP stability wise.

Whatever they did to achieve almost optimal performance given the huge number of players, I really think they need to return to that system even if it was something they were just experimenting with.

It's not just Cyrodiil right now.. it's the whole game has gone wonky since this second week of the PTS.. Blocks not being counted, major lag and cpu spikes, bosses abilities going off AFTER they are dead.

Since the last maintenance me and many of other players experience an insane increased lag, and it doesn't matter what ur geographical location, Some of them are from germany.
People living in Germany has insane ping issues they never had before 29/January.
Don't get me wrong, ESO always had a bad performance issues related to lag but after the last maintenance the game is just not playable.

I have 150-180 ping on PVE land on low populated areas, 150-300 ping on Vivec when Cyrodiil isn't pop locked and im standing at the base doing nothing.
Cant even play the game properly, it was pain with the lag before but its now just absurd.
I'm fine with the game lagging on prime time, but what happend after the maintenance that it feels like the game performance's function on prime time pop even when its not?

    @ZOS_GinaBruno Shed some light please,
Its either you reduce EU server's resources, or EU server share the PTS environment?

    Edit:
If any of EU players experience this, please share bellow.

Straight from another thread. They definitely *** something up or temporarily patched their servers just for the event. Either way theres something theyre not telling us.

MMO's have to be flexible to adapt to changing loads when players shift from one zone/game activity to another. Most times it's pretty random what players choose but events force more into like decisions.

Perhaps the adaptive resources load algorithm was tipped more in favor for PVP during the event because of having the extra campaigns. So more resources were allocated for cyrodill functions than normally.

This might not even be part of the Game but of the servers that are contracted, managed by the server company. (Would explain why ZOS can't find the problem as they looking in the wrong place.) Possible as well that during PTS events moves more resources from the Total contracted pool so pvp being low on the priority suffers during this. PTS is open all the time but not used as much as when there is a PTS cycle.

This is my Hypothesis, wondering how correct I might be...
