Radiant Aura vs Elemental Drain

Is there a reason to use one over the other on a Templar healer? I see Elemental Drain being recommended more, but since tanks should be providing Major Breach isn't the AOE worth more?

Elemental drain is free, plus the tank can't usually breach every single add, but healers can easily apply ele drain from range.

    Elemental Drain
    Pros:
    Provides breach debuff
    It's free
    Has a long duration

    Cons:
    It's single target

    Radiant Aura

    Pros:
    It's aoe
It provides nice recovery buffs just by slotting it

    Cons:
    High cost
    Has singular effect

My opinion: Radiant aura is optimal mostly in pvp group situations where you don't have to worry so much about your resources and most of the times you have a specific role in that group. For pvp solo, ele drain is beter because it provides the penetration debuff, has no cost and even if you affected and damaged multiple enemies the magickasteal debuff has a cooldown. In pve environments elemental drain is better because you can control easier the uptime of the debuffs, the tank can not move around and debuff every mob in most cases and you will most likely benefit more from the zero cost of the skill.
But in both cases, if for some reason you decide not to run a destruction staff then the radiant aura is a great alternative to boost your group's magicka sustain.
    Enjoy.

I has/had a bad habit of agroing half the dungeon when you use it. Also the magic return of magic steal doesn't stack with it's self so as long as you are attacking any monster with the debuff applied every X seconds then you will be gaining the maximum bonus of it.

I've heard Elemental drain is much better than Radiant Aura. I think Gilliam covered it in this video. Radiant Aura is not a good skill as it is now.

All, I didn't realize it was free, that makes so much sense then

As mentioned, radiant aura can aggro half a darn dungeon. By contrast, eledrain does not aggro at all. That, combined with eledrain's long duration and free cost, means you can paint as many foes as you want before the tank even pulls. Fits in nicely with a healer's 'prebuffs'.

Wait. Does Elemental Drain stay up on multiple targets at once? I thought that I tested it at some point and it didn't.

It does. One of the things that healers do when they get bored in a raid is to put ele drain on every single mob before the tank aggroes them. Just because they can.

It has been fixed for awhile.

Thanks for the correction. I tried it out some time ago, rejected it and never looked back at it again. :)
