Will I ever feel a difference in combat? How?

Last week my pertsorc was lvl 40, 610 CPs distributed, crafted blue sets (divine Julianos and Magnus + assorted jewellery), Lover boon, Witchmother’s Brew consumed, and he killed a wasp in Shadowfen using skills 4 times.

Today my pertsorc is maxed, 610 CPs distributed, purple sets on – Spinner and Necropotence + mismatching monster head and shoulder (yet giving some magicka), almost all pieces divines; Lover boon, Witchmother’s Brew consumed and… he kills a wasp in Shadowfen using skills 4 times.

Well… What do I have to do to feel any changes? To kill a wasp, say, using skills 3 times? My sorc is quite more advanced today comparing with what he was a week ago, yet I see no difference… No, I didn’t expect to one-shot the damn wasp with my light attack. But well… what’s the point of working on sets if there’s not a slight progress seen… Is this ok? Of course I know that I can try different sets, different build, but I expected something from Spinner and Necropotence… Not whining at all, just wan't to undrestand how to make some really visible progress...

Well wasps are pests so I wouldn't worry about them. Maybe start with a matching monster set then look at golding that necropotence. Make sure your traits on your weapons are correct at least (infused/infused) and add some enchants. Try to aim for all divines on your armor as well. On my stamblade the difference between a sturdy belt and a divines belt was an easy 3k dps.

Lover and Spinners will make you overpen, that means you don't get any additional damage from penetration.
Change mundus to Apprentice or Thief, cast Mages/Endless Wrath, Cast Crystal Fragments/Blast, boom, majority of normal mobs are dead.
You probably spammed the Mages/Endless Wrath, it does rather low damage on itself - use it only for enemies that are under 20% health.

Wasps are just my "test" enemies - don't really need to kill them. My staves are infused, all glyphs gold. Will try to obtain Ilambris shoulder - it seems to be elusive, can't catch it.

Started with Crystal Blast, then Destructive touch. Now will try Blast and Wrath, TY!

In my experience, overland mobs make for a poor DPS test unless all you want to do is overland questing.

If you want to actually test the difference that sets make, you'll want to use a 3 million health target dummy so you can actually see the effects of sustained DPS rotations. I find that rotation makes a bigger difference than sets as long as you were using decent sets to begin with.

For example, if my stam sorc runs into a mob of overland quest enemies, the quickest way to kill them is to spam shrouded daggers because its a high damage skill vs low health enemies and sustaining that isn't an issue. But if I'm dealing with a boss, that's when the full rotation with bow and dual wield, DOTs and single target skills, all comes into its own. In overland fights, the full rotation is wasted and spammables are quicker, because the proper DPS rotation takes more time to layer its DOTs before getting to the heavy hitting skills.

I mainly do quests and roam in wilderness. Sometimes mobs are too annoying - too many of them in places I want to screenshot, so I'm trying to find a way to deal with them quickly.

As for rotation, thatnk you for insightful tips

    That seems implausible.

Your tests leave something to be desired. You could be over killing those wasps by a thousand damage in your more "powerful" set up and it would still be 4 hits either way.

You need a test dummy, or harder enemies than overland pushovers.

I would say just record the damage you do per hit, both critical and non critical when doing this sort of "test."

For instance, when my Magblade uses Light Attack + Swallow Soul weave while fully buffed, and they both critically hit, I instantly kill standard overland mobs. (~20.7k Swallow Soul, ~12k light attack)

However, when they don't both critically hit it's not nearly as satisfying. On the off chance neither of them critically hit It actually feels embarrassing.
