Anyone use streak as a gap closer?

I have a semi hybrid stamsorc idea mulling in my head but can't find any info on using streak in this way. Thanks in advance!

My bro uses streak for exactly the use case you are describing, and a while back when I ran a DW stamsorc I did it the same way as well.

Here's a video with the playstyle:

I play a magsorc and use streak quite often to streak in and bomb, to destealth/stun, and also quite often as an execute. And of course to escape. It does take some getting used to but once you get the mechanics of it down, it's an amazingly versatile skill.

That's exactly what I was thinking it'd be useful for

It can be used in many ways, escaping, chasing, repositioning and since I use ball of lightning I often cast it to get around to different opponents in 1vx, making it harder to pin me down and countering some projectiles at the same time.

I still wish it's animation was faster and it could move around terrain easier too, sometimes it can hurt you more than help.

I use it to either stun players or to escape. OMG, to escape it is 10x better than cloak most of the time.

One of my favorite things about the speed nerf is that streak is actually useful for escaping now. Before the speed nerf it was sort of useless in that regard.

It's not a perfect substitute for a gapcloser, because of the usual wacky movement mechanics associated with it:
    • Losing all momentum when cast
    • Reduced distance on upslopes
    • Streaking into thin air then slowly falling when used on downslopes

and it also can't terrain-jump to a higher elevation like Crit Charge can.

That said, it does have a few upsides:
    • Non-targeted, so you can close-in on someone even if they LOS you
    • Pops blades out of Cloak
    • Has dual-function as a defensive skill

Absolutely, i use the Ball of Lightning morph, its essentially the equivalent to shimmering shield or wings, without reflect of course. However as stated above it is great for many tasks, using this to close a gap on a ranged target will eat their ranged cc and allow you to pressure, one thing i have also noticed especially in cyrodill is that there are so many gaps which are the size of streak, try it from above ash front door to the eastern tower, you will catch that sniper off guard every time!

Yes, even as a MagSorc I use it as a gap closer on escaping toons.

Streak at where you would hide if you were a NB - like a destroyer laying depth charges searching after a submarine lol.

Targeting an enemy after coming out of a streak is not smooth nor easy. If your goal is to stay in melee range of oppenents, you will get more out of stampede (the snare) and your follow up abilities are smoother.

Offensive streak to pop NBs out of stealth, or CC a group for a quick 180 dawnbreaker is nice. But if your opponent is already faster than you on foot, streak will not help catch them.

I actually tend to only slot streak when I have a gap closer slotted as well. They complement eachother so well because you control when you want to be in or out of melee range. If i drop one then I usually drop the other and replace with speed or tankiness.

I agree and disagree with that statements. Using streak as a gapclosed surely needs some getting used to because you always have to turn your camera by 180° (might be hard on console), but once you figure it out streak really excelles at bringing many differnt use cases all together.

Kiting, stunning, disrupting, decloaking, damaging (yes implosion), gapclosing, porting on terrain, ... It's really amazing if you use the skill to its fullest potential

Streak is fantastic offensively. I run shock blockade and aoe snare. So a very affective combo against a group is to snare in your blockade then streak through for a DB from behind.

Then mist form the fook out of there lol.

Also if you are constantly thinking about positioning, always line opponents up with the ability to quickly streak to los.

My pet hate though is you can be CCd during the animation when losing all control.

I don't have a huge mag pool as a StamSorc. I'll sometimes use it to close the gap but it is primarily used for getting NBs out of stealth when they're trying to run or reset the fight or I'll use it for the AoE CC.

Unstealthing, stunning, escaping and repositioning. Rarely use to gap close unless it’s to stun someone running/cloaking away

I use it to proc endless fury more than anything, it feels so smooth. But other than that I use it for distance, not getting closer
