I'm between CP470 and 480 now. I really couldn't care less about the CP system. I'm more interested in the content of the game and right now it's too easy. Going into group areas alone or fighting world bosses are the only challenges. It feels broken. I want to be challenged by the game's environment. I want to feel dread when entering solo dungeons and delves. So, CP is bad for PVE in my opinion.

But then there's PVP. I don't bother going to Cyrodiil much because many of the players there are at least 300 CP higher than me and I feel like it's pointless to go there until I too get to max CP. If they increase the cap it means I'll never catch up. Maybe that's the way some people like it. I think its like playing a game where the goal posts keep moving. That's why CP is bad for PVP.

Even before I had any cp I don’t know if I ever felt dread when entering a delve, or other entry level content.

There is Sotha Sil, and no cp BGs for your pvp fix if you don’t want to worry about your cp.

I understand why they do it and I agree but I'm not sure how to make a system meaningful without the powercreep and balance issues. Anyone know another MMO that has a working solution?

No sense of progression except grinding for power creep gear which is not fun

At least cp is not rng related and gives us something

I agree with you but leveling was getting out of control in ESO.

I hate to say this, because I hate what the game has become, but Rift has good character progression. There are multiple systems in place for character progression. Thy stopped expanding their trees, but added in a new type of tree along side the old ones, they have planar attunement, and I want to say there is a third progression they added with their last expansion.

CP should have been capped long ago (at 600 would have been smart), and a new system implemented to continue in a different way. I would have liked to see "trees" for each of the abilities for all skill lines, with a limited number of points to apply. Something similar to the morphs, but added on top of those. They could have milked that for a while, then added the new system they were (hopefully) working on down the road.

Off the top of my head, one example would be for templars' jab ability. The mag morph could have a base buff, like adds x magicka damage, then branch off to have the heal also heal the party member with the lowest health for 10% (with three points that can go into that), and increases the area, but decreases the overall heal by a small amount (with three points that can be added to that). You can only add five points, of a limited amount of overall points, into that. They could add another tier to that later, and increase the total points in that tree accordingly, maybe even add a one point talent that would give a cool passive, like a chance to proc a heal that equals 100% of the total self heal, for your teammate. This would let people further customize their ability setup (since all abilities would get the same treatment), and give people another reason to continue playing outside of PvP and trials.

Maybe this idea only sounds fun to me, but I really think they need something to continue progression in some way. CP isn't very fun, but it's better than nothing, especially for people that have maxed out skill lines. I do not, but I have everything I would ever use on my main, and a ton of things I would never use already.

I still remember when one salamander was enough to give me a hard time. I also used to try to avoid running into mercenaries and enemies because I knew I could barely survive a battle with them. These days, the only time they hit me is when I get lazy. The thrill is gone. Now that I think about it, clearing my CP might make it challenging again.

I've enjoyed the CP system and the variability it brings to build diversity. And yeah, I like the extra power it brings to my mediocre skill set. I'll really be disappointed if it goes away.

Adding more (ever smaller %) CP is just "grinding for power creep" too. Even more so than gear, which can lead to finding new builds or power mixes.

Personally, I've never understood the attraction of Moar Levels!

Fallout 3 was much better before they upped the level cap to 30, for instance. And yeah, I was perfectly fine adventuring across the wasteland at lv20.
Ditto for all sorts of other games.

Scrap CP, convert character level to X, and have gear change to level X.

    No more CP problem.

This is coming from someone with 900 CP.

Or if you do wanna keep CP then just have it affect gameplay not based around combat.

Both of them. BfA brought me back to ESO, though, so... silver lining.
