How many buffs do you keep up?

Playing my characters, 1 thing I go back and forth with is how many buffs i want to keep up for some big benefits vs opportunity costs of me having to rebuff and often not because you just cant have them all and get something done.

For example; on my stamplar, I go back and forth on whether I want rally and shuffle for a heal as well as a meager root snare immunity, to go along with rune focus for defense as well as keeping Vigor up? Or do I give up evasion and heal to run forward momentum cutting down 1 ability to keep up? Or maybe stick with shuffle for evasion AND snare immunity, give up the meager HOT of FM and run weapon damage pots obviously sacrificing at least 1 bonus on a potion and having to proactively chug them rather than as needed for a heal.

These are rhetorical to a degree. I'm just curious how others feel.

I'm likely in the minority here because buffs tire me out to the point where they just feel tedious, so I try to minimize them. I rarely try to min/max anymore because it just isn't as fun as I want the game to be and I don't really need to.

If I really want/need a buff on a build, I have started to gravitate towards sets like Mighty Chudan, Dreugh King Slayer, and Rattlecage. People sometimes freak out when they hear that because these sets are often not BIS, but using them allows me to free up skill slots for more fun/unique skills that spice up combat and help to reduce boredom from what feels like tedious maintenance of my character.

I'd much rather feel like I am playing the game with fun skills instead of maintaining a character with buffs.

I keep up 4 in battlegrounds and 3 in Cryodil. Major brutality(Momentum), Minor Bezerk(relentless focus) + Stam regen, Major evasion and resistance buffs (Blur morph forgot its name). In Battlegrounds I also run Siphoning Strikes.

It has just become automatic for me to just flip to my back bar and apply all my buffs just while I am running around.

Its kind of hilarious when I accidentally do it on an Alt and kill an NPC.

Depends on what i am doing. in pvp usually 2-4( depending on how well the client is responding and how energetic i am) In non vet pve maybe 1 like 50% of the time. Dont really need them. Vet i make a bit more effort so like 1 most of the time and another like 50% of the time.

Thats what I run on my NB. Its nice to get the defense buffs passively. I starting to feel like 3 is a sweet spot for me. 4 GCDs albeit staggered just feels painful and I find myself often doing it to be sure when there probably is still time left.

PvE wise, I keep everything up.

It is a different story in PvP, I try to keep most up for my StamNB but often it is simply better to go offensive or defensive instead of wasting time rebuffing. I keep Major Brutality and Major Evasion up almost constantly, Minor Berserk and Minor Endurance is up like 60-70% of the time. I use Transmutation so Vigor also has high uptime (near 50%).

In PvP, I play a Stamina Warden, keeping 5 buffs up at all times. Ice Fortress, Green Lotus, Bull Netch, Leeching Vines, Forward Momentum. 6 if you count Resolving Vigor. 7 if you count Sub Assault. Vigor usually has 80-90% uptime while Sub is the least of my priorities unless I am going for a burst.

On my PvE tank, I keep Pierce Armour, Heroic Slash, Balance, Engulfing Flames, Green Dragon Blood and Crusher. Sooo, 6? 5 if we don't count enchants.

I agree that buffs are tedious. The solid combo buffs of surge + hurricane/boundless that sorcs have are pretty painless. Buffing my bow/bow stamNB makes my head hurt so she runs both Chudan and Dreugh King Slayer - makes like a lot simpler.

My DK tank runs Chudan so he can slot Caltrops instead of Spikes on his back.
PC NA(no Steam), PvE, mostly solo
