Horrible performance post patch

Alright Im not sure what happened because I havent changed anything.

No driver updates, no software changes, nothing, outside patching eso.

If I run *anything* with the game, I start to slow. And by slow I mean "bogged down slideshow system choking" slow.

I typically run one or both of two programs with eso: Firefix and Yahoo messenger. FF runs two tabs: Facebook and these forums.

Ever since the first big patch you guys did, I cant run either in conjuction with eso. It bogs the system horribly and the only recourse is a reboot.

Im currently testing to see if its a memory issue or whats happening. If it were GPU, killing the game would fix it next time I run it. As it stands, closing the client, and coming back later isnt helping. At all.

Ideas?

Something changed, I just made a thread about my performance. It's a shame because the patch before this was really nice for performance.

Disable the ESOhead addon. That is the cause of your issues.

For an explanation as to what's going on - Addons are written in Lua, as is the rest of the UI. It all interacts. If Zenimax changes any of the Lua system calls (which patches very commonly do - both to fix bugs, introduce new functionality, and keep addons from doing things that are not intended), addons that are not updated to use the updated system calls properly, will generate a TON of Lua errors. Imagine 100 error boxes popping up on your screen every second.

Now, the game doesn't actually *display* Lua errors, so you don't see this happen. But it keeps happening, and that's what causes your FPS to drop.

I dont use the ESOhead addon.

I have 4GB memory and the games using 1.2 atm and it keeps climbing the longer it runs.

Im also trying to see if theres anything else I can kill to free up RAM.

Cant remember what my board takes(its like 5 years old anyways) or if they still make it either so upgrading that may not be an option.

It sounds like a RAM issue in your case, then. If you're using 32-bit Windows too, keep in mind that the maximum RAM is 3.25 gig, so even if you have 4 you won't be able to use all 4. Plus Win7/Win8 take a decent chunk more RAM to operate smoothly than XP did. I consider 4GB the absolute bare minimum for a computer nowadays. 8GB is the effective minimum for a gaming computer. 16GB is nice, but not required unless you do a lot of stuff at once.

Also, keep in mind that ESO runs in a display sized borderless window on the desktop. Those applications that you have open, along with ESO, are all running on the desktop.

I am not saying that something did not change in ESO, but people should know that ESO "full screen" is really just a very large desktop window with no borders or title bar.

I've noticed this too. After today's maintenance/patch I've been getting occasional random FPS drops. I go from my usual 50-60 down to 15 or so. It doesn't matter where I am or what I'm doing. It doesn't matter how high or low my settings are. It'll drop down to 15 for around 10 seconds(give or take) and then go back up as if nothing was wrong. This wasn't happening before today's patch, so I'm not sure what happened.

@lordrichter‌ I am running in a window. I never run fullscreen because I tab out.

    @saerydoth Im running windows 7 64 bit. SP1.

I went afk for about 10 minutes at strifeswarm kwama mine. Only things running are eso and windows tadk manager/system monitor. Memory usage went but by over 100mb while I was afk. Watching it, its no dropping.

Well, technically, everyone is running in a window, yours is just smaller than mine. :)

I have not been keeping track. I did not see the launcher download anything. Was there an actual client update for 1.0.2 today, or was it just a server update?

And a few hours later.... up to 1.6GB used(RAM), up from 1.15 doing nothing but hopping alts and shuffling mats/crafted stuff in Davon's Watch.

I'm having the same slideshow issues--and I'm not using any addons so something else is going on. The game has generally run pretty smoothly for me, and this afternoon there was a definite change for the worse.

    1.8GB.

Seems to me the game doesnt release memory when its not needed anymore. My only recourse seems to be buy more RAM, ehich doesnt fix memory creep, or closing/opening the game again. Which is only temporary.

Keep in mind I spend waaaaay longer in game than many others do, but that doesnt mean this is a good thing. Its been running 4.5 hours.

I've seen way over 2GB usages, but dont concider it to be a problem. Game runs fine.

It should be freeing up memory its no longer actively using but its not apparently. I shouldnt have to restart the gsme every four hours because my pc hit 90% memory usage when this did not happen:

    1) all beta since last September
    2) all early access intil the huge shutdown/patch

Its done this since. Once data TTL hits it should dump so it can be reused. It doesnt appear to do so.

Normally I can drop my Windows memory usahe but I cant figure out the unnecessary processes in Win7.
