Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

Dear ZOS, please, don't make Elsweyr a new starting zone. Enough.

I understand, you want to show players your brand new zone, you want new players to get into the newest and the best looking content right from the start...
But do you realize that you break the story doing that? You comletely break main stories timelines.

What do you think new players feel when they meet Naryu in Morrowind? And then Razum-Dar and Naryu in Summerset? This meeting supposed to be kind of the meeting of old friends, but you just break it. "Erm.. Who are these guys? Ah, nevermind."

Then players go to Vanilla zones and only then they realize who is who and what actually was happening before they started while it had to be happen with them during their story progress. Moreover, they might don't understand it: "What the Oblivion is going on here?".

The Morrowind story is highly likely happens after the Planemeld, because, you know, there's no Dark Anchors and Morrowind starts new global story which is getting continued in Clockwork, and this story is clearly happening after the Planemeld. And only then it's time for the Summerset story to get started.

In Elsweyr new players are going to meet Abnur Tharn. Most likely before the Vanilla main quest. "Why does this man talk to me as if we know each other? Is there any adequate pre-story to this game? Do I need to go to forums or wiki to ask what's happening?".

You might be saying "We want old players to get new fresh experience when they create new character."
Well, you know, old players are pretty much aknowledged how to get into a new chapter if they wish to start there once they skip Coldharbour tutorial.

See, Vanilla so far doesn't actually look that ugly so you have to hide it somewhere behind new chapters.
And Vanilla is actually the best way for new players to get into the lore, I know that, because I did know nothing about TES lore before I started to play ESO, and Vanilla zones made me... no, not fall in love, but get very interested in TES lore. I even installed Skyrim to try it again, but sadly I realized that I still can't play it because of awful gameplay and design. Oh, I'm off the road! Back to the topic!

So, dear ZOS, I beg you, think about it. At least, make an option to choose whether the player wants to jump into the brand new chapter or he wants to see the story from the beginning.
One of the two of us definitely has gone mad. It only remains to define whether this one is the whole world or just me.

well if doesnt become elsweyr it will still be summerset which Id rather it be Elsweyr. The original starting story line was best by far, but i dont think we will be getting back to this any time soon

My preferred starting location would be for ZOS to open with the Coldharbor tutorial so we are all the Vestige (which explains skyshards, wayshrines, and reviving) and then off us the choice of where to start our adventure. Starter Island, Seyda Neen, or Shimmerene. Even better, maybe ZOS could make the Prophet show up for main quest "Vestige, we must speak. Come to the Harborage at once" at each of those places.

Agree completely. Started the game after Morrowind came out and played through that first since that’s what the game directs me to do. Honestly I felt misled once I went back and did the base game.

Oh, right. I didn't think about it. However, if ZOS ever give any attention to this thread along with other similar suggestions, I hope they'll understand what we actually want.

I'd be happy if they'd just give us a choice. The latest chapter can even be the default. It'd be one more click for people who just want to get into the game ASAP, but could make all the difference to those who want to tailor their character's story.

Couldn't agree more. New characters should start where we are saving The Prophet. Or if we decide to skip that part send us to the characters first starting area after saving Prophet.

It's like ZoS doesn't care about starting area and story any longer.

I'm not a complete lore buff, however just in terms of the majority of content making senses / feeling right - ditching Morrowind and starting main story for new toons was a must for me. It must be mighty confusing for new players starting in these zones.

You should get a choice, as you should with game landing screen - #BringBackTheOldMap

I plan to start a new RP character as a Necro, but I'm only going to do that if I can completely avoid the main quest and base game zone quest lines. I've just played them too often already. It's no fun anymore. So, I'm going to play right through Elsweyr as my new Necro character's starting zone.

I already have plans for this character's role play. I won't need to crutch on the whole Vestige thing to explain my Necro's ability to rise from the dead on and so on. Here's a concept picture. Guess which one is the PC and which one is the pet. Is it the Skeletal Mage or is it the spooky-looking Alfiq?

And how is a brand new player supposed to know what their Alliance starting zone is? Or porting? Is that covered in the tutorial?

I have some old Scroller friends who have asked me whether they should get this game. These are people from the TES game line who have zero interest in playing WoW, Fortnight, Bioshock, or any other kind of shooter type game. I have tried to get some of these people to jump in before. Now I don't know. These are people who would feel very ripped off if the started the game in any new area. I can only recommend that they buy the game today if they have the option of beginning in the Wailing Prison, playing through that alliance's main game, and the Cadwell's silver and gold. Then they could go after the DL areas at will and in order. This needs to be something easily accomplished.

I agree. The best starting zone is Whailing Prison. All other zones bring more and more mess.

I remember starting when the game first came out and the intro came on you were a sacrifice then you ended up in the cold harbour prison met Titanborn, the profit learnt about the planemeld etc.
Made an alt a year or so ago and started on the ship in morrowind leveled like normal decided to go do some MQ then apparently got sacrificed out of nowhere and was in the prison at lv50 cp whatever I was at the time (500+probably) pretty strange idea. Why not have the original start and let people go straight to the dlc zone when they escape.

I seem to remember them saying during the Elsweyr stream that Elsweyr will have a tutorial, but players would be able to choose which tutorial they go through.

    +1!
Leave the starting area in the Wailing Prison and make the others introductions to the specific area - that's what I'd do. Or at the very least leave the others optional.

What? When I started the game I didn't even know what my "starting alliance zone" was and I'm not sure how I would have found that out without searching online. How would I even know that it was important to go there? You obviously have no idea what it's like to have a fresh start in this game after One Tamriel and the new chapter tutorials were introduced.

i wish they would make the story and main quest in a way it works both as a beginning area and coming in there after the rest of the game, and both make sense with the same cinematics and all.

Except that I did start during Morrowind. I knew I was in Morrowind because npcs told me so. Then I asked people (which is also an option cause its an online game) what my starting zone was and ported there.

Riiight, you started the game in Morrowind yet you already knew you had a "starting zone" and that you should wayshrine there for the main quest? Despite the quest marker for the Morrowind story line being the first thing that you see when you leave the ship, and literally zero references to any other zones, let alone alliance-specific zones? Wow, you've got amazing psychic abilities. Or maybe you googled everything about what to do as you played the game straight from the beginning? Not really fun for most people.

I bought the morrowind chapter with base game and i started in morrowind..doesnt take a genius to realise there was a vanilla starting zone..not all new players are brainless

    There's a reason I wrote this post: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/413807/what-order-should-i-do-esos-story-arcs-a-guide

Prior to One Tamriel, it was very obvious what order to do the quests.

Now, if you want to do quests in order, you need to use https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Quests because ZOS sure doesn't tell you in game.

For a story-centered game, its a shame that teling new players to "Google" what order to do quests is serious advice.
