Cheaper to buy new game rather than buy ELSWEYR upgrade

Why is is more expensive to upgrade to ELSWEYR and get summerset/morrowind versus buying the entire game outright?

$59.99 for Summerset, Elsweyr, and morrowind.

$40.00 for Elsweyr and then I have to buy summerset($20) and morrowind($35 DLC and it doesnt appear to include warden) separately

Am I missing something? Why not make the $60 thing available to everyone and not just new players.

    This is marketing.

If you want to spare money, wait one year and buy it then as a collection again (which includes Elsweyr).

But TBH: Why waiting a year for DRAGONS, NECROMANCERS and ELSWEYR?

No, No, the money has to be spend. Marketing knows that best! >:)

Meh. I'm not interested in a new class. Dragons are just another boss. And as much as I've been wanting to visit Elsweyr one day, it'll be the same place after it goes on sale.

If Marketing truly knew best, they would have pushed for another form of Crafting to have been added, like how Jewelcrafting was added in Summerset and how you needed the chapter to get best use out of it. Summerset also offered a new Skill line which benefited all my existing characters. Without things like that, which benefit my existing characters, I'm just not seeing enough reasons to immediately hand over that much dough.

OP, your observations are warning you well. Pricing tactics like that are intentional and you are wise to have noticed them.

No new crafting or game systems for 2019? "Season of the Dragon" would be better named "The Year of no New Major Features"

I noticed this as well, pretty shady... Pretty much killed my desire to preorder.

Well... I didn't see that the "Upgrade" didn't include Sumerset and Morrowind. So after I pre-ordered Sumerset and learned I didn't have access to that, I was quite disappointed and unhappy.

Because as a player already, you have characters and cash shop purchases that would not be available in a new copy of the game, if you bought it outright, which makes you vulnerable to predatory, underhanded ways of ZOS. In comparison, new/potential players, having no characters nor sunk costs, can not be blackmailed, and at $95, chances of turning them into actual players would be very low.

It's because they want to get more people into the game, so the base game is offered at a low price to give new players an accessible entry price. Then new content can be charged at a higher price as it's the latest thing.

I think YOu can actually buy the 60 bucks version and claim it on your account. It`ll just add the DLCs to it. At least that`s what happened when I bought the latest ESO standard and added it to my Tamriel Unlimited edition so I could get Morrowind for 20 bucks as opposed to 40.

Check Green man gaming. They have both Morrowind and Summerset for under 10 bucks right now.
