Story Mode

    +1 to story mode.

I really enjoy to solo normal dungeons, due to challenge that overland can't give me, especially second version of dungeon.

    Some current "hacks":
    1) if you really want to know story without new character you can speak with NPCs in dungeon. They can tell you some plot from start to end even without quest. Same with regular overlands quests - speak with other NPC that have no markers, they can tell you many interesting things.
    2) obviously - roll new character and play dungeon again.

    3) out-of-bounds option: use PTS to create CP 750 character with super-duper gear and faceroll any dungeon with story you want. DLC dungeons, though, could be impossible.

Suggestion - turn off group mechanics in normal dungeons if there is only one person. So yeah, story mode )

Been also a solo player and love to enjoy the dialogue and the scenery going together with the stories, I fully support the idea of story mode dungeons.

Having some CP meanwhile, I'm doing now public dungeons and most of the time alone, biggest problem here for me are not the bosses (they're managable alone most of the time) but crowd control, if 8-10 NPCs attacking same time it get's kind of interesting for a solo player ;)

Thus yes to a solo story mode for group dongeons and Trials, would love it <3B)

So about this. Even if NPCs complete the “needs two people to hit the switch at once” bits that would be fine.i also understand that some mechanics need another person. Even if those fights were cut down (or just a fade to black) in order to simplify the effort it would take make a story mode that’s fine too. The point of story mode isn’t to solo a dungeon. It’s for the story part.

Maybe the Group Finder could have additional checkboxes to facilitate this. That way, it can continue to be the group experience that the devs designed it to be, but everyone in the group knows that they are there for the story and not for the other stuff.

Similarly, as someone else mentioned, this would be a good way to filter for people who wanted to do speed-runs and other specific scenarios as well.

    Makes sense to me.

PUGs are a nightmare and guildmates are not at my beck and call. I solo what I can and it's a lot of fun. I keep saying I'm going to group up to do the ones I can't solo but I never do. So Dungeon DLC is basically wasted on me which is a shame.

I've never purchased a dungeon dlc for a few reasons:
    1) I don't care about the gear drop treadmill, definitely not every set.
    2) People can sell the motifs to me, so they can buy it and run it. Please devs, do not make them BoP. This can be a pricing problem though but then I'll just stop buying them. I guess I would stop caring if they were BoP and just find it easier to quit the game.
    3) The DLC dungeons are more difficult with much more demanding my stamina I don't use a melee weapon enough to restore enough for that. It's just badly designed to force certain builds and cause group implosions with rage quits.
    4) With the above and the fact that I don't always even see people for overland group content, I can't solo the dungeons so no need to buy them.

They're losing a lot of money from me.

I'm all for this, not once did I get to enjoy or follow any of the dungeon quests/story. Seriously what a waste of time and development when nobody gets to enjoy it. I was so sad when I missed out of most of the story of Cradle of Shadow's. I looked everywhere online for a vid of people just going through enjoying the story, but nope just speed runs.

I would love this as an option. It’s a bit of a nightmare on pug runs trying to follow the story and not hold up the group. Especially for someone like me where it is the story that is the motivation rather than xp and gear.

I would love it in trials too though they would need to hugely rework mechanics to allow a solo (or solo with NCPs) option. Would be great!

I've been playing since launch and I wanted something like this. It sucks that every dungeon story dialogue you have to skip or it gets skipped for you. I never know what the heck is going on story wise and I feel like I missed out. I really hope one day we can even get a solo mode.
Do guest in normal, not vet dungeons, not having quest indicate you have not done dungeon before.

No need to skip, simply say you need quest, if the others move on ignore them and sprint after them, unless its an very high dps group you catch them before next bos is down, most will also wait at boss. The will not heat the quest dialog so its boring standing an waiting. Yes I say running ahead is crude for new players who feel pressured to follow.

If you arrive in an ongoing dungeon you get quest, you can however either not accept it or drop quest. You will do the dungeons many times so missing quest one time is no catastrophe.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I definitely agree with you, OP.
Vanilla dungeons are pretty much soloable, but the new dlc ones arent (not for average player at least) and they have pretty good stories. In some cases, you can even do optional stuff to get a different ending!
You can heal Jorvuld in Scalecaller Peak and save Olorime's teammates in Cloudrest, for example.

There are a bunch of dungeons I've never been able to experience the story on because most of the time people just want to rush through it.

I would be ok with a no reward solo story mode that gives no undaunted credit, does not count for pledges and does not give the dungeon skill point for first completion.

Well, if you put subtitles on in a Dungeon/Trial, you can read the whole Storyline and,of course, you can join a Guild and find likewise players and justgo slowly throught a Dungeon/Trial. I play since 14 Months and know, apart from a few all the Storylines in every Dungeon/Trial, like MOL and WGT a lot, BC is awesome as well,1 and 2, the prison theme fits really well for Auridon

Yeah I’m in a guild that respects story, but I’m not so self centered I expect them to wait for me to investigate every corner, open ever container and pose with my favorite npcs/ epic landscape. I want to soak it in.

So yeah, I tried to solo some normals and remembered the pin down mechanics that require another person.

Story mode people. No rewards, no containers, fade to black boss fights. That way we can eliminate the constant new threads of “people go too fast in the dungeon” or “quest failed because everyone left”

At some point I responded to a story mode thread, not sure which one, but have been giving it more thought. I would love a story mode option.
I think there should be special rewards for doing it - not necessarily armour or weapons, maybe furnishing items, special recipes, something to make it worthwhile for people who would not normally consider story mode. Encourage people to take the time and have some fun with the game for a change.
I also think it should have extra relevant quests in it. The original story has vanished from Spindleclutch, the guys don't get overwhelmed by the Whispers any more and turn on you... yeah, I miss that.
    Favourite NPC: Wine-For-All
Mostly PC-EU , with a lonely little guy on NA.
