I'm worried about the future of character customization.

This thread wasn't created to complain about the changes to the CP system or racial passives/skills. The focus on this thread is the direction that I feel ESO is taking, and the experiences I've had with it in other MMOs.

1. The stop/revamp/removal of CP system.

The reason I enjoy the CP system is because I have several different ways to build my character. I don't always follow meta, so to me, there are many options to pick between. I don't care about the numbers, I care about the choices I have. Even if you feel that the choices are limited, there ARE choices.

2. The changes to racial skills.

The reason I enjoy the racial passives that we have at the moment, is that the race I chose for my character is different from the other races. It's a choice for me to take, and options for me to pick between.

With the changes to CP and racial skills, I'm getting the very same feeling I got when WoW started to homogenize. If they remove the CP system, we're losing out on choices to customize our character. If they chose to remove/change the race skills to make the races more equal, then we're also losing out on choices to customize our characters. I'm not talking about customization in the way of cosmetics (costumes, hair colour, etc). I'm talking about the customization of stats and attributes. It's important to have BOTH of these, and if we make it so that every race is the same with the exception of their appearance, then we're throwing away the other option to customize our characters. This might not happen at all, and I might be wrong, but I have the same feeling right now, as I had when WoW started to cut away at the uniqueness of races, classes and talent trees.

TLDR: I'm worried that with the change/removal to the CP system and racial skills, we're going to lose out on customization choices when it comes to gameplay.

We don't have confirmed information yet but I get the sense that the racials will be more about choice rather than just removing things.

I can't imagine ZOS neutering all the racial skills and making everyone have the same, I could see it more like a system where you get morphs* to customise the choices and as such gain options as well as break away from stam/mag races.

    * actually someone else's idea from Discord which I agreed was a realistic way it could be done.

As for CP I think it's too early to call it dead/removed, but I can see it getting a massive pass in the future as right now the system does very little but add +power which was creeping up very fast.

I share your concerns, and based on the history of this game, my expectations are not high. Nuking CP (after nuking vet ranks) does not fill me with confidence. Does this ship even have a captain? Does anyone with decision-making authority actually read these forums? Eh, probably not, possibly to both questions. It all seems very slapdash to me.

Well I think the CP "nuking" is because they do follow feedback, there are a lot of people who really don't like how CP turned out compared to what it was billed as.
If they carry on the way they are without stopping and taking a look at it things will just get worse. There are far more interesting progression systems than gaining 30CP each update.
Also consider that most end game veteran players are way over the cap, it's not like we're even working towards those power increases, we attained them long ago and are just slowing having it drip fed to us.

I'd rather see a system were when we get to and update and power increase, we actively work towards something rather than just suddenly gain power we earned months ago but was locked off.

We should wait and see what they say or do before we get too freaked out. For the moment all it means is we're paused on that drip feed.

I wasn't worried about the racial changes, until they announced a free race change token. That to me screams "This will be a big change". They don't like giving out things like this for free, so this stands out.

They follow someone's feedback, but exactly whose is questionable and I will leave that where it is. I'm not deeply in love with CP, but I don't acknowledge power creep as a valid problem to be fixed, at least in PVE. PvP is another matter, but that's a result of ZOS's daft idea to unify game balance. In any case, I have little confidence in the direction of the game going forward but I'll hope for the best.

    soon, very soon.............
that is the moment eso gets drained from endgamers, because all are at bottomlvl and you played this game since beta for nothing, just having the same stats as anybody else, no progress rewarded
then we all are just dust in the wind

Or maybe they are simply being considerate for people with this change. There might be some many great options that interest you you just stay the same. Let's not forget giving a character slot was chapter too so the kindness is not unheard of.

Yeah, I got the impression from Rob's post and the fact they wanted the class reps to see it that this was much more than "we changed some numbers and abilities"

I fully expect a system which lets any race choose Mag/Stam bonuses and kills off the whole X race shouldn't be Y build.
