PVP, actually fun

I tend to only venture into Cyrodiil twice a year during these events. I've been in before with my stam DK main in the Vivec campaign (last Midyear Mayhem). It was fun as it was new to me. Not fun enough to make me quit PVE, but still.

This year, went in with an under-50 magblade. Got to say, I'm having a really good time. Maybe its because the Kyne server has little to no lag, I was able to get in and out without a wait, and there was tons of action. And there seemed to be far fewer of the try-hard, KDR types I've seen in Vivec. I almost didn't want to share this as it was the exact opposite of what I expected after reading this boards. So, if I ruin Kyne, I'm sorry everyone. But it is actually really, really fun. I finally see why people like PVP so much.

As is the tradition with PVP, I did have one gripe. The majority of time in Cyrodiil you spend on your mount. Typical sequence is ride to the battle, kill a bunch of people, maybe live to roll to the next battle, or die. But eventually, you die. Then you have to regen in a location that is a 1-3 minute ride back to the action. I get it, you want death to be punished, and the battles/sieges/keep defenses need to be finite, but it gets old after a while. Wish there was a way you could regen somewhere a bit closer to the battle. Sure would keep the action more consistent.

Funny, I just made it to level 5 and picked up my first camp. I've been able to regen in camps when others put them up, just wished in general the regen spot could be closer. All I kept thinking of was a long battle (I'm yellow) I was in versus blue on the far left side of the map where the 2 closest keeps are very far apart. It was a constant flood of players running south to north.

Your point about fights needing to be finite is the main reason there cannot be instant respawns close to the fight. The same reason why forward camps have a fairly long timeout.. to stop zergs from just endlessly returning to the same battle. As much as I agree with you that the rides back to fights are so frustrating... things like scroll takes would never happen if the enemy could just endlessly respawn near the action. The frustrating riding is part of the strategy.

    Glad you enjoyed Kyne campaign!

I have been extolling the virtues of Kyne for the entire event.

I really want to get my main into Vivec to get a higher rank but Kyne is too perfect for this event.

Try taking a fresh alt in. Do the mayhem quest before the tutorial, 20 to 25k depending on faction bonuses when using the scroll.

Glad to hear you are having fun. Maybe the more posts from people enjoying PvP will bring it much needed attention to make it even better!! :)

@EvilAutoTech Did it for that very reason. Got a low alt that I wanted to level and this event was the perfect situation. I can't speak to Vivec's pros or cons, but the way Kyne is set up, its a nice intro to PVP. I have an inkling on what to do, how to battle, and try to survive and Kyne gives you the ability to work things out without getting waxed immediately.

Its kind of like doing DLC trials for the first time. Its one thing to read the boards to find out what to do, its another to jump into it and see what people are talking about. Going to keep this up and maybe get my main into Vivec once I feel like I know what I am doing.

I, too, am enjoying it on Shor. Never thought I would, so it truly shocks me...especially since I'm a solo player and don't even know how to communicate very well with others! I haven't been able yet to join a guid; I die very easily (since my bow warden hasn't been created with this in mind); don't know all the rules...but... I might look into starting a new character to do PvP in the future.

Stick around and bring more people with you. It would be great to see Shor maintain a small population throughout the day. It’s currently dead for probably 18ish hours a day. Shor is perfect for solo players who don’t know how to communicate lol.

    Assuming you’re on PC/NA. But I guess I shouldn’t.

Glad you found it fun! It is pretty awesome. Just don't take things personally and continue to learn from every death and fight - both as winner or loser.

To the last paragraph. You'll want to invest your mount/bag storage points into speed/stam evenly. After you get up to around 30 speed and 30 stam, you'll notice that you're only 30secs to 45 secs away from almost everything. Now, if your opponents have taken several keeps from your home keep location....yes, it will take a while, which is why gaining territory over scrolls, sometimes matters the most. In any case, make sure you invest your mount points as it will pay off.

    Pretty much this.

Have fun and learn. If you get easily triggered buy a teabag then you are in the wrong part of the game.

Also remember, "Fools rush in." Unless you have Proximity Detonation.

This was my experience too this week (playing no CP Shegorath). You can make your existing character do well in PvP. Craft new gear and try some new abilities. If you're on PC, use AlphaGear add-on to switch builds quickly.

I'm having loads of fun on my Magplar PvE healer. Great having a new source of transmute crystals and skill points. I've started an Argonian Templar experiment to play with pvp after the Mayhem is over. Tried battlegrounds too, also loads of fun. Even being mashed by premades isn't too bad as the pain is over relatively quickly with such short matches. A successful kill obviously results in a gloating "YESSS!", almost spilling the coffee over the keyboard and strange looks from the hubby from across the room over his monitor :D

    About the bolded part.
    1. When you will get experienced enough you will find that dying is not sure. I can run few hours in Cyrodiil and die like 2-3 times, depending on my mood, do I want to play a bit as a berserker running solo into open keep and trying to kill as many as I can before dying or I simply prefer to play kill'n'run.

    3. Though riding can be annoying in Cyrodiil it has its purpose. If respawns would be closer tactical approach would be nonexistent only numbers would matter. Right now fast and well disciplined smaller group can be more deadly than whole zergs, one of the reasons behind that is that when they kill zergs, killed players can't immediately get back into fighting them again and eventually flood them with overwhelming numbers. But if you want to respawn closer you can always use Forwarded Camp.

    4. You can speed up your mount by using Rapid Manuever. With this and maxed mount riding speed ride between keeps takes 1-2 minutes at best.

War Mount is also very useful passive from CP Tower Constellation, it allows you to sprint on your mount as long as you want (out of combat ofc) without worrying about being knocked out of your mount.

Also Shadow Rider passive from Dark Brotherhood is very useful especially in IC but also in Cyrodiil it has it's place e.g. when you like to ride fast around enemy keep without dragging Guards and entering combat you can ride as close as possible to keep walls and the Guards won't engage you.
"We are currently investigating connection issues some players are having on the European megaservers. We will update as new information becomes available."
    — They always claim they’re “investigating” the causes, but in reality they’re just waiting until the PC EU players go to bed. Once that happens, you can suddenly log in again and they happily mark the issue as Fixed.

You can and should resurrect other players and it help being in groups as its easier to see them even on map.

Its also part of the strategy with sieges, once you storm the breach and then the keep you need the camp to rez if the assault fails and you will be behind enemy lines.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

The time it takes to ride back heavily depends on where the fight is, your knowledge of terrain, how fast your horse is, and whether you have unlocked rapid maneuver.

For example, when you die in glademist and can rez in warden, you can be back in the fight in under a minute.

I hate to admit, that this PvP event is really damn fun, Zerglings get to zerg the keeps, ballgroups get to farm those zerglings, smallscalers / solo people get to farm groups of unexperienced people, gankers can gank and everyone is happy.
And the performance on the 7-day CP enabled campaigns is pretty impressive, even at prime time its somewhat playable.
