An Idea For Crafting

Gear Crafters, How many players have asked for a specific style when you craft the gear since the outfit system has been around? My guess is not many.

Thats because crafted gear is still limited by type, as in you cant craft a highelf heavy chest to look like a highelf light chest or a dagger to look like a sword.

Some side effects of the outfit system are. The value of crafters knowing every motif really has gone down. Motifs are more of an everyone learns them item, which has also increased the price on them.

So heres my idea, Crafters should be able to craft an consumable item that can be used on armor similar to enchants that will change that items style but can be overridden by the outfit system and other items of this type.

A more detailed description of the process,

Crafter goes in to the station like normal but a new material exists to create this type of item and is selected in the same are as trait gems. Crafter selects the type of gear, say for this example a light armor robe and the style, say highelf and lvl say 160. This will create a 160, so style 4 highelf robe "masking" that will appear in the crafters inventory and can be traded or sold. To use the item the player will select the piece of gear hit options on it ( same window as enchant or repair) and select the option to change style to which they can select the masking. The masking will be consumed and the gear will be changed.

ZOS isn't likely to support an idea that replaces the gold sink of the outfit system.

On the player side, it's more convenient to just change the outfit style in the outfit overlay rather than purchase a "masking" from another crafter ... especially if the player has unused outfit tokens.

I think you're underestimating why crafters need motifs. Not only do they unlock styles, but they are also needed for achievements and master writ drops.

This idea needs a lot more thought ...

We knew this would be the effect of the outfit system before it was introduced.

Some of us argued against it for this reason (among others).

    It still happened.

That should already tell you about how today’s ZOS view crafting.

Honestly saying, crafting is incredibly useful in ESO, it brings ton of money, saves a lot of time and fuss and so on.. If we talk about crafting end-game so ZOS moved it strictly to furniture.. you know motifs, you receive ton of master writs, you buy crafting recipes with vouchers and then sell those which you don't need, it's whole mini-game of resources-gold-voucher-furnishing rotation.
