So I'm clearing obsidian scar, and while waiting on a mini-boss to respawn I suddenly insta-gib and the death recap is all damage from another player... I was was so confused I forgot to grab the screen shot but has anyone ever experienced this kinda thing before? Xb1 btw.

Edit: had to use a soul gem to rez... If I accidentally accepted a duel invite, isn't it a free rez from a duel?

Did you accidentally accept a duel invite without knowing it?

That might explain it, especially if there were others around waiting for the same thing to respawn.

I don't have any proof but my other half swears that he was killed in Abah's Watch by another player whilst he was afk. Or he wondered if he somehow got involved in the fight between the player and a guard. He said the death recap said 'Devouring Swarm' the vampire ult. It's a mystery to this day because I didn't see the death recap myself and he can get a bit confused

@Feric51 I guess it's possible, I was looking at my inventory while waiting though. I'd finished off a mob, moved to the boss spawn, opened menu to clear up some junk and then poof! Dead

I have all my characters set to auto-decline duels, but I know many times I'll get invited when I'm doing that very thing - checking inventory or in some other menu screen.

My guess is this happened to you and when you were backing out of the menu you inadvertently accepted the duel and they had easy pickings while you went back into a menu. Though I also thought that active combat should bring you out of a menu screen, but maybe not.

It might just be one of life's great mysteries at this point. lol

@Feric51 It does make me wonder though... It's been a while since I've dueled but I thought I had to hold down my interaction button and use the stick to select "accept." I'll have to check my box for auto decline when questing though, good idea.

@Ragged_Claw there is a vampire NPC in Abah's Watch. It's just one of the NPCs who you can attack, pickpocket, blade of woe etc. I don't think I've ever seen anyone fighting that NPC, so I don't know if he does Devouring Swarm or not, but if he does then that could explain it - your other half might have been collateral damage when that NPC got mad at someone trying to pickpocket him or something.

@UrQuan I didn't know about that NPC, that would make sense. Perhaps my partner's not as addled as I thought he was. Thank you!

The 'accidentally accepted a duel invite' thing seems kind of shaky to me, considering even if you do accidentally hit 'Accept' while messing around in menus, it's kind of hard to overlook the giant standard that crashes down, or the fact that another player is attacking you. You'd have to be paying 0 attention to the game to miss that stuff, even if you are in menus. There's also the countdown, which while isn't glaringly obvious (and idk if it shows up in menus), it's still a pretty noticeable indication that you're about to be in a duel.

Are you sure it was player damage and not maybe an invisible mob that got you? I've had a few instances where enemies have gotten stuck under the map and were able to attack me, even though I couldn't see them or attack them back. I think there are a lot of skills NPCs use that are the same as PC skills, so even though it might look like player damage because of the skill names, it could have just been a sneaky (or stuck) NPC. Then again I suppose it does also depend on what the skills were that killed you.

Ya... Unfortunately I didn't nab a screenshot because I wasn't thinking and rezzed but all the damage was listed from a player name and it was player skills: snipe, twin slashes, can't remember the other two. I also saw the player in dungeon shortly thereafter. It took me a minute to process it lol. The only other thing I can think of is that it was an invisible mob that got me but somehow showed the damage the other player did to the mob on my recap... Extremely weird
