No, You Shouldn’t Buy Duplicate Berries

...upon the start of each new event during Q1, the Impresario will stock new Indrik Berries and any previous Q1 Indrik Berries for the Dawnwood Indrik. She will also continue to stock all four Indrik Feathers required to summon a new Nascent Indrik throughout 2019.
After purchasing the Dawnwood Berries of Bloom, remaining tickets should be saved or used toward duplicate feathers as you will need to replace the Nascent Indrik after evolving one.

Once you have all four unique Indrik Berries, use any of them to transform your Nascent Indrik mount, replacing it in your Collections UI with a new, evolved one!
As there are four UNIQUE Berries required to evolve the Nascent Indrik into each particular evolution, purchasing a duplicate will be a complete waste as it cannot be used for any other evolution.

Midyear Mayhem will award 22 tickets for those who participate every day, and maybe brought in extra tickets from New Life, so if you WANT the Dawnwood, you should purchase the Dawnwood Berry of Bloom with the first 10 tickets, and a duplicate feather with the next 10 to start working on (or completing) the set you need for the second Nascent Indrik.

To make it worse they are revealing the berries in the same way as they did for the feathers.

    One per event.

So during this first berry event there will only be the one berry on offer so its guaranteed some players will think they need four of the offered berry and buy a duplicate. Of course they have to put the already purchased one in the bank but that is a pretty reasonable thing to do.

The thing about the berries is they currently say they won't be coming back so any completionist has to target berries first then pick up feathers with spare tokens.

I’m just glad the feathers will be coming back for the entire year, so I really feel no rush to evolve every single one this year. I’ll grab the berries and wait to evolve any Indriks until Onyx and Pure-Snow. The other two I’ll get feathers for when it’s convenient

But I know in about 5 days there’s going to be thread upon thread of “Should I buy extra berries?” just like there was about the feathers

Alternatively realise that the mount looks crap and don't worry about it.

It’s the only in-game earnable mount aside from a rather deformed horse+recolors

People are reasonably excited to finally get one that isn’t at a $30+ price point

Do we know for certain that feathers will continue after this year? In other words, are they repeating the feathers and berries next year so that Indriks are the only things we'll be getting with Event Tickets? If so, then there isn't even any rush to get berries this year.

I rather think that Indriks will be available this year, with something else to buy with event tickets in subsequent years. Feathers will continue to be available throughout the year, with the 4 types of berries only being available in their specific quarter. I rather think that once the NL Festival ends this year, that will be it for getting any feathers or berries. So, while it's certainly no rush to get lots of feathers, I don't think they're going to be available past this current year.

But, then again, I suppose I wouldn't put it past them to urge players to grind for berries and feathers, and presumably buy tickets in the CS to make up any difference, only to be told in early December that you can always get Indriks you missed next year.

Yes. Buy feathers for third nascent indrik instead.

We don’t know for sure, no. ZOS only mentioned the feathers being available through 2019 in the article. There will have to be something worth buying, and to downgrade from a mount will probably not go over well..

But we’re all pretty familiar with how much ZOS cares about customer satisfaction

If they’re smart they will keep the feathers so new players have something shiny for free to keep them participating, even if the evolved forms are reserved for the older players who are here right now

Sure wish I had seen this thread before I bought a 2nd "Dawnwood Berries of Bloom" this morning!! I failed to understand there were four DIFFERENT "Dawnwood Berries" and wasted 10 tickets today buying a useless duplicate. Realized something was amiss when I tried to deposit in bank and couldn't because it was "unique". Back to the grind for more tickets I guess....

Send a ticket to Zos to undo it since IMO is a case of bad communication... There are always people who will say that it is our problem and didnt read right but you can see by forum threads that a LOT of people cant understand it because the explanations should be much more clear on the topic

I did that immediately after posting here... I really expected to wait a long time and be told "sorry, your mistake", which would have been fine because it was indeed my mistake. But to my surprise, the response was fantastic. Within 3 hours I had a personal (not automated) response telling me to delete the duplicate "berry", and in another hour the 10 tickets were back in my inventory. KUDOS AND THANKS TO ZOS CUSTOMER SUPPORT!

Glad you got your tickets back, but the updated news article was pretty straightforward.

For any area of confusion, that's what /help is for - before you do the thing you're unsure about.

Regarding the OP, if you purchase the items on the same character (and do not bank them), it is impossible to buy a duplicate berry or feather, as they are all tagged as unique.

The fact that you could never have two of the same unique items in your inventory at once should've been a pretty solid indicator.

TL;DR: Actually read the articles on this stuff, don't just glance. If you have questions after, get them clarified beforehand by using in game /help with customer service response.

I just need to get one thing straight. Do I need all 4 different berries to choose one evolution or do I just need that 1 berry to evolve it?

@Megatto Four different berries (one available per event) each quarter. The berries are then combined, just like the feathers were, along with a base mount.

It will end up taking a total of 80 tickets for one evolved mount, with a different evolution available every 3 months.

That is the one thing I can actually understand as a source confusion, because the feathers are also Uniques, and we definitely need to buy duplicates of those.

You need four berries for ONE evolution, as stated in the article, which also gives all of their titles and states the events that will introduce them.
The first set of Indrik Berries that arrive with 2019’s Q1 events (January – March) allow you to transform your current Nascent Indrik into a Dawnwood Indrik!
Midyear Mayhem (In January!) – Dawnwood Berries of Bloom

Morrowind Celebration – Dawnwood Berries of Budding

Thieves Guild & Dark Brotherhood Celebration – Dawnwood Berries of Growth

Jester’s Festival – Dawnwood Berries of Ripeness

As stated in the article. Each quarter will introduce a new evolution’s berries into the Impressario
Starting with the Dawnwood Indrik in Q1, each quarter this year will provide a different set of berries AND therefore a different evolution for your Nascent Indrik.
