That’s just cheesing it. I main a MagDk (which has no execute). I a Destro/Resto heavy attack build. Soloed a flag in IC and ganked fools taking it back to get 30 of my fifty kills. The other 20 just happened in the normal course of things.

How is it cheesing it? We logged into one of the event campaigns and fought each other until we both had our kills. We weren't just trading deaths. I saw faction skirmishes stop for duels, too, so it wasn't just friends doing it. Good practice, too; I definitely needed it, since while I'm pretty good at small group vs. group combat, my 1v1 skills are one of my weak points.

And yes, you can get it through the normal course of play. But it can also take a very long time to do, and it's really not necessary to do it the long way.

Dude, it’s cheesing it. Period. You can duel and test builds at your house.

I learned MagDk from one of the best MagDk’s in the game and when we run together he’s always stopping to duel people. So, yes people do it. He ain’t dueling nobody to get KB’s. For a TITLE lol.

Yet, to kill your buddy over and over IN Cyrodill during THAT event just to get KB’s is cheesing it.

I ain’t bagging on you man. Do your thing. So much of the game is broken. You’d probably DC or wait through a long ol’ queue or hit a loading screen in the middle of a fight. Never mind me. I JUST remembered how horrible performance was during the last Midyear. I’d have done the same thing on the last day if I hadn’t gotten 50 kills by then. There’s too much judgey salt in the game as it is. So, sorry and nvm me. :)

Yeah, we're both Vivec players who had gotten the title on our mains the "normal" way, but by that point Vivec was literally unplayable in a siege... assuming you got through the 300+ wait queue, that is. So we decided to do that on one of the event campaigns instead.

For the record, we fought in front of a keep that I was technically sieging (flagged it and everything), and we weren't hiding - we were fine with getting interrupted. But we were apparently the only two players on that side of Cyrodiil, so... dueling practice for some fancy titles on our alts it was.

It's not a big deal. I had to deal with all these pve quests. Time to dust off my stamblade and do some ganking.

    Poor comparison.

In PvE idiots are tangential to the experience. In PvP idiots all too often tend to BE the experience.

If you can get a few of your mates together run with them. Gankers are generally pretty poorly skilled, and will run/hide if they can't sucker punch you.

@VaranisArano - great post. I've bookmarked it - because at some point I'm likely to have to dip into Cyrodiil on someone. This is not that day though - well, event.... or whatever.... because I have 12 tickets ahead from New Life. So hopefully the next couple of events will be more like fun for me.... I LOVED the harvest, CWC, and New Life events. Yep, first year for all of them so they were all really great.

I found out in harvest that my not so great tankden could actually solo delves. And continued that in CWC - where she didn't HAVE to solo Shadow Cleft, but could have.... Kind of a big boost in confidence for me as the player - since doing stuff with 2000 ms lag seems to cause me such major issues (as in - I have no idea how to even begin to mitigate that much lag....) I got her to 50 in New Life.

All very cool for me.... This game is harder for me than either WoW or RIFT were, because the combat system isn't optimal for me in many ways (though it's mostly the lag....)

And - you've been VERY kind about those of us who really aren't into pvp, so for that I think you should get a HUGE gold star. Maybe there's something you'd like in the way of a furnishing item? Assuming I can afford it, I'd love to gift it to you.

I had absolutely no interest in ever setting foot inside Cyrodiil, until last week, when I became aware of the Guild Reprint book furnishings you can buy from the Mage Guild Mystic vendor when you collect a full set of lorebooks in the wild.

And then I found out that some of the lorebooks can only be found in Cyrodiil.
    Frak me.

So I choked-down my distaste, came to terms with the near-certainty that I was going to get ragdolled before I got anywhere near the books I was hunting, and queued-up for the Under 50 campaign (on a level 19 alt wearing level 10 training gear).

I needed two books on this particular run, and I was ported into the northeast corner of the map. One book was over in the northwest corner of the map, and the other was in the southwest corner of the map. Both of those areas were enemy territory.
I had no mount training on this character yet, so I just ran to the books. I had one player jump out of somewhere and hit me once, but then they let me go, for some reason, and one other player ran a couple of circles around me with their mount, but then ran off.

It took a long, anxious while to run all over the map to get to the books I needed, but that map was low-pop at that time and I only ran across those two players. The only thing that killed me were the slaughterfish at the shoreline, when I stuck a toe in the lake near the center of the map, which I allowed to happen so I could revive at a wayshrine rather than run from the southwest corner to the northeast corner to get my totally unprepared, non-PvP butt the hail out of Dodge.

Well, if the Lag in PvP wasn't soo damn bad it wouldn't be an issue, but ESO has no interest in fixing the damn lag in the PvP zones..no thanks. It's not worth the effort for the crappy mount upgrade.

Oh, gosh. That's a really good thing to remember I think! I mean the slaughterfish and wayshrine! Making myself a file of "tricks", starting with that one!

Glad you got your books, didn't get ganked, and agree with getting "totally unprepared, non-PvP butt the hail out of Dodge". I spent quite a few months in WoW on a pvp server in a RL friend's guild.... wasn't my thing at all, and to this day, I won't pvp unless forced by something I can't control.

One thing you should probably add is that regular PvPers will be going about business as usual as we can fill out the quests while playing the map and a lot of us don’t care as much about farming specific event items. That means that if you’re attempting to take a town or a resource around a tri keep or something, we don’t know if you’re just doing quests or what. Cutting off back keeps or taking strategic spawn locations like towns will get people coming after you.

Pvp is not that scary. My wife does not like
PvP and it very bad at it but did get some rewards during last event.

How? Cowering in a keep at the frontlines and repair, siege and heal others. Lots of easy AP and kill quests can even be done by just counter sieging.

If the keep is overrun, die and spawn in the next.

The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

Getting over the distaste for PVP requires you to ask yourself: what is the thing I hate in PVP? DoI hate it because my char might die? What is the worst thing that could happen if I die?

Well, if your reason for disliking PVP is the possibility of dying to another player, do keep in mind that you do not loseanything by dying. Yes, you need to respawn somewhere else and travel back, so time is something you lose by dying, but it costs nothing else.

You can predict where the fights are going to happen by looking at the map, so you can know where not to be. Do you see some plans in zone chat? (messages like "Sej > Ales") If so, keep your distance from those places, because your alliance is planing to get those places hot. Do you see a pattern in which the fights are happening? Is there an enemy faction taking keep resources one by one? If so, keep your distance and do not enter the delves near those places. (they're most probably farming ap by flipping resources, so they need to keep up the delve boss buff)

Most players either follows the road or goes straight from Keep A to Keep B. If you wander off from these routes, you most probably will not face another player. Also, most of the fights happens on the borders of your territory, so if there is a couple of keeps/outposts between you and the nearest enemy keep/outpost, you'll most probably will be fine.

@VaranisArano This is such an awesome post, thank you. I've passed this on and am bookmarking it. It's extremely helpful, especially with the warnings, so that people can adjust their risk to their tolerance level.

It is rather sad that what looks like it might be set up to be fun is ruined for so many by not the system itself or the concept but by other players' behavior. I know that for my own part, my avoidance of PvP is based 100% on the trashy dishonorable people I've run into in Cyrodiil and my refusal to play with anyone like that. It's a pity that competitive games tend to attract a scummy element, because the PvP itself would be very enjoyable without them.

I believe the quests on the boards (bounty, scout, conquest, scroll capture, keep capture, resource capture) in the starter area can be done over and over again...

the towns have about 7 to 9 "daily" quests which can be completed each 20 or 24 (can't remember) hour period...

    happy adventuring :)

As others have mentioned, try it. You may like it.

Make sure to join a group. You don’t even have to kill people for the quests 9/10 times you will earn your “kill 20 Nightblades” quest or whatever just from being in the group while you take a fort.

You can just heal or use siege weapons, or literally just stand in the area and get these quests.

Stay in the thick of your group so you don’t get ganked by wolves looking for weak sheep to pick off.

I think most pve players have this stigma about pvp or some idea how it is or it’s supposed to be. Usually they are wrong.

I implore anyone to try it. You just might find it enjoyable.

There really is no need to fear pvp - I mostly find it incredibly funny for some reason, and if I get hate whispers, even better! Certainly don't miss out on event tickets if you want more than one indrik like I do. Just do the easy stuff on a quiet campaign and tickets will shower down upon you!

The Event Tickets are once per day per account, reseting at 1am EST like the other dailies.

The other rewards are easily obtained fron repeatable quests, regular PVP or from the town dailies, and there are 5 towns if you do them all. I usually burn out on doing dailies before I run out of quests in Cyrodiil.

As far as I know, the only thing that's once per character is the berries themselves, assuming ZOS does the same thing as the feathers with not wanting two of the same item in the same inventory, but since event tickets are account wide, I just get dulplicates on another character.

    Well...

Here's where I'm going to be the PVPer.

First and foremost, everyone in Cyrodiil queued up for Cyrodiil knowing it's a PVP-enabled zone. There is no "innocence" and no way to reliably 100% tell who's a quester and who's a PVPer. (I say this as someone who's PVP healer build visually looks like a PVE quester, but if you let me go, I'll go stealth flag your back keep or outpost.) If you 100% do not want people attacking you while questing, do not queue up for Cyrodiil and it will not be a problem.

Like I said in the post, you don't have to fight other players. There's no guarantee that other players wont fight you if they find you.

That's not them being a jerk. That's playing as intended in a PVP-enabled zone.

Cropsford, Bruma, and Vlastarus all have Alliance War Flags and allow players of the alliance holding them to teleport there, which can be crucial to supporting or capturing a keep. Enemy players running around here might be "innocent questers" but let's face it, they are mucking around with an Alliance War objective. Expect the enemy alliances to defend their territory or try to take yours and do not complain when you die at an Alliance War objective.

Cheydinhal and Chorrol/Weynon Priory are not Alliance War objectives. Most PVP players don't have reason to swing through there (unless they dump a scroll in Chorrol's lava pit, lol) unless they want to quest, fight questers, or gank. Yes, people do gank at the towns during this event becauae they know that's where the squishy, inexperienced, and often unaware players are going to be. Welcome to Cyrodiil. This is an entirely normal part of PVP - inexperienced players, try not to be unaware and squishy. Those gankers are playing PVP as intended by ZOS and usually working on their own Event Ticket quests, in this case, Kill Enemy Players. Everyone going into those towns should be prepared for PVP, just like they are at the other towns or anywhere else in Cyrodiil.

If you dont like people farming questers, that's up to you, but its certainly intended gameplay or ZOS would have made towns a non-PVP enabled zone. Telling people not to be jerks is pointless when the behavior (camping towns) is both intended gameplay and rewarded gameplay.

As for myself, I prefer objective-based gameplay, so yeah, there's been a few times my raid or I have killed somebody at Cropsford or Bruma only to go "Ooh, they were squishy, probably a questers, ouch, sorry!" But its an alliance war objective and they were the enemy, so we shrug and move on to our next objective.

Excellent thread @VaranisArano I've been referring some guildies here. I particularly appreciate that you've taken the time to give some very good advice on what are the easiest event-related things for folks who don't want to actually fight other players, while still emphasizing that this is a PVP event with quests taking place in PVP zones, so there should never be an expectation that people will just leave you alone to do your quests.

Speaking for myself, I've always been much more of a PVE guy, but I do actually enjoy PVP every now and then. Just being in Cyrodiil (or Imperial City) used to always be stressful for me until I learned to just accept that sometimes people will gank me or I'll be in the wrong place at the wrong time and get run over by a zerg, or whatever. Once I stopped caring about whether that happens, I started to actually have fun whenever I'm in Cyrodiil or Imperial City. I'm still not very good at PVP because I don't do a lot of it, but I'm better than I used to be, and most importantly it doesn't get me stressed or mad.

ZOS did say that there's a UI bug that the tickets don't show up when you're handing in the quest, but that you do actually get them and they show up in your inventory under the Currency tab. So check there to see if your total went up.
