The issues with the game have gotten worse for the last 3 months for me. Ive played without addons which offers a bit of a improvement but not enough to make it worth playing without them. Instead i customized the setting for each one for a middle ground and got a slight improvement.

Overall the client has a persistent memory leak that possibly affects both the graphics memory and system memory. The older/more lowend your PC is the harder time it will have compensating for it. Higher end hardware will be able to compensate some. Especially in regards to memory. If you have a newer system with an SSD or SSD/HDD hybrid or Optane card with 32GB plus system ram you will likely see little issues assuming your using a good graphics card as well.

If your using a PC that just meets recommended requirements, you will probably see a decent amount of issues. If your using a potato that can barely play the game, your experience is probably going to be a nightmare even on the lowest of settings.

My rig isn't a monster but I can play smoothly at 4k on ultra, for a while... The longer I'm in a zone or an instance the more performance will steadily drop till things get stuttery.

Diving into a delve or zipping to another zone sorts it and I'm back to smooth game play, except in Wayrest, performance is always super lousy in Wayrest.

From PTS 4.0.1 patch notes: Improved the framerate stability when spending a lot of time in the same zone.

Finally, i hope it will be the same in the live version.

Game doesn't even have an auction house and graphics still disappear constantly all over the place. Of course memory leaks will be terrible. They could care less about their player base. Nothing will ever be fixed.

No problems lately. Synced at 60fps and stay there almost all the time with rare drops when first zoning in an area and small drops into the high 50's in very large PVE groups.

I noticed a massive improvement immediately after the patch for about 2 weeks, but performance seems to have reverted. In a mini trial like Cloudrest, the performance will tank after beating 2 of the sidebosses, so about 15m or so in. A restart always fixes it, but is pretty annoying to have to do :(

I've had some experience with this issue. One instance of it was PC related. The second instance I've experienced with it was related to video settings, turning off ambient occlusion and going to high settings fixed it. As for the PC issue I never could figure it out.

I started having this after the latest update. Before that I could play for hours on end and nothing would happen, but now after an hour or so, my performance degrades and I have to restart the client.

I hope they fix this, it's not fun at all. ESO's loading times may have decreased, but they are still longer than what's accepted.

The only time I've experienced something like this is when I failed to update Windows for weeks. Stalled background updates seem to wreck my PC at the oddest times. The difference is HUGE.

Of course, let's be clear - I realize this is *not* the cause, nor is it the solution. However, someone searching here for answers may benefit, so I figured it was worth a mention. In fact, here are a few tips to improve FR for those who aren't techy (Windows PC - I know nothing about Mac. Sorry!)

1 - Make sure you don't have updates pending/waiting to be installed.
2 - Turn off real-time AV while you play. Some AVs have "game mode" so you can do it from the taskbar without opening the settings panel or the actual AV dashboard.
3 - If your PC has a "game mode" function, use it.
4 - If you're not running on the "high performance" setting in the power menu, change it.
5 - Running in "fullscreen" uses fewer resources than "fullscreen windowed."
6 - Have a look through your processes and kill what you don't need. Cortana (et al) is a memory hog, as are several other Windows components. If you care to learn, you can create a macro that shuts down the processes you don't need in game, then shortcut the macro to your desktop. I forget how it's done, but I'm going to look into it.

These are things that we can do on our end to optimize performance and make the most of the RAM/CPU power we have. Unfortunately, they don't solve issues on Zos's end, and those issues DO exist. Please don't think I'm trying to shift the blame away from where it belongs; this is just to help those who may not know how to optimize the experience on their ends. It won't fix everything, but it can help.

I don't usually get game weirdness until after I've been online for many hours and in many different zones, so with a newer computer with 16GB RAM or more, GeForce GTX 1070 or better with at least 8GB RAM and only some really useful addons it should be fine almost entirely.
On older computer with less resources it might happen more reliably though, same if using dozens or more different addons.

Neither CPU nor GPU is every running hotter than 60°C..

FPS isn't a problem - only if you're running into Cyrodiil big zergs and there are 100-150+ player fighting at the same place.

The big issue with this game is the ping. Strangely it seems like there are really some rare player, who doesn't have those problems. But at least 95% of people are complaining about the *** server-performance - regardless of your rig & connection.

And don't even waste your time and contact the... let's call it "competent"... ESO-support. You'll always get the same 0815-standard-FAQ crap, everyone know that it doesn't work

Suprised no one mentioned the standby memory issue with Windows 10.
It definitely was noticable for me after playing Assassins Creed Origins for a while, nothing changed on my PC, was all smooth but after 30/45 mins stutters, but my fps was still 60fps.
It was this damn standby memory bug in Windows 10, made a task and scheduled it to run every 5 or 10 mins and no more stutters.
    First found it on:
    https://reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/7a0763/standby_memory_issue_causing_stutters_on_creators/

But later the guy from DDU (graphics driver uninstaller) made a nice tool, intelligent standby list cleaner, which runs in the background.
    https://wagnardsoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=1256

Doesn't take away lag and stutters because of crowded places like Cyrodil, but it definitely helps otherwise.

It exists, but it could be as much a product of your add-ons as a memory leak. I removed some add-ons and have had better performance. Either way, my computer should perform better than it does in this game... it isnt wonderful. What MMO hasn't had these complaints though?

And that isnt an excuse for ZOS, they owe us better performance, less lag and more fixes...

WoW has never had these performance issues. You could argue it is due to the rendering style, though they have still optimised their game really well. ESO really could do with some of that love, because you get drops everywhere.

I'm having quite a lot of fps drops especially in Cities, but outside it's stable as much as it can be with eso's performance:

my PC is strong enough to play it in 4k with 60fps, but thanks to this issue after 30 minutes i got low fps (20-25) in areas where i reached 60fps easily...

Not the same problem. You have just an outdated PC.

Fortunately for you there is nothing on your end wrong. It's all server sided processing and backing up from everyone connected to a mega server. There servers cant handle the load and the client isn't capable of resolving it by itself, this is pretty much legacy technology:)

I do not have this issue on PC/NA with my Win10 Pro system. I am running a fairly ancient i7 but with a 1070ti card. I have a half dozen add ons going and I am also running a web browser at the same time with several dozen tabs open. My big plus is having 64gb of DDR4.

I do not see this at all. I have had 16 continous hours on the weekends and an easy 3 or 4 hours a weeknight. I pvp, dungeon and pve all max settings. I also stream 1080 60 fps 6k rate and I do not get fps drops like you have stated.
I should add I also run about 40 addons continously as well.

All on PC NA. Also run my browser and discord along with obs and twitch all at the same time.

Yet for me it is actually pretty good as I stated above you. Which makes me wonder if some of these issues are more likely user related.

It's not good, I am standing in the middle of Minstral at 40fps. Running a Ryzen 1700 4Ghz, 1080Ti OC and 16GB 3200mhz OC. Tell me its my system.

The game isn't well optimised, I am not sure why, though I guess further improvement could be done but its whether or not they want to invest in that effort, after all that doesn't earn them profit.

Just wanted to chime in: it’s still there. I quit playing a year ago, and now I’m back, booted up with no mods installed, issues still present. 🤦‍♂️

    For reference, my rig:
    I9 9900k 5.0ghz
    Rtx 2080ti
    16gb ram
    1tb ssd
    Win 10

So, it’s not an issue with my machine. 😬

Having this same issue for a while now. Just came back but thinking about quitting again, thought the issue might be fixed. I can almost make this bug happen everytime.. go to summerset, do a world boss with a large group.. areas that are always 100 fps locked are now down into the 50s or lower and staying there until you reset your game. The fps on the game deteriorate over time.. when you first log in it is buttery smooth, then performance drops over time after doing anything graphically demanding and will stay there. I have an awesome rig, with a 1080 ti, and i7 8700k.. this isn't user error, so that person who is calling people out, you are somehow lucky to not have experienced this.. It has happened on multiple computers of mine with different specs. Any news on fixing this issue yet, it really takes away from the experience. Thanks, people that say they dont have this issue may be running at 1080p and 60hz screens, not high refresh rate monitors at 1440p or higher resolutions. I run an ultrawide 3440 x 1440 100hz monitor, and you can absolutely tell when the fps get cut in half 50-60 and stay there until restart. Keep us updated zenimax.

Just did some testing, got it to deteriorate, went around an area where i usually get 100 fps, it was 50-60 and locked there, stayed in that area for minutes, didn't change.. 50-60 fps... went and relogged to the exact same location, ran around.. 100 fps locked. Something is seriously wrong.. if you kept the original performance when you log in, this game would be really smooth and nice to play, but the degradation makes it poor performance for even the highest machines. Heres what i think.. people with 1080p 60 fps monitors, probably wont notice the degradation as it still stays around 40-60 fps after it happens. People with 100hz+ refresh rate monitors playing past 1080p resolution will notice the degradation as it will cut their fps in half.

    Will continue my testing.
