2-handed still better for PvP vs DW?

Things have changed. For a stamplar with a closer is 2-handed still worth it in PvP? I'm not used to DW. My stam sorc respecced from 2-handed to DW and hasn't fully leveled anything yet so I don't know how good it will be. He lacks a closer without it but also uses a bow so doesn't have to close.

Pros and cons of 2-hander vs DW in PvP? For stamplar, stam sorc and I think even my stam DK might need to respec.

It really depends, both are viable although I will say that few people are using crit charge anymore unless you pair it with NMG ala @caeliusstarbreaker

For me personally, I play with 270+ ping and I just can’t bar swap reliably to use reverb bash as my CC nor can I count on dizzy swing so I opt for the 2h as a backbar weapon for rally, and go DW front bar using javalin as my CC, rending slashes, jabs, DBoS. I don’t find a problem not having a specific execute skill. I also play medium so I find the constant reliable pressure and extra heal from rending on DW is good. On Stam DK I do play SB and 2H because I’m in heavy and much tankier so I can afford a slower playstyle but it’s a difficult 1vX class because of it. I don’t use crit charge on any classes anymore. I just use javalin to close the distance and put lots of points into sprint or I just soak up damage and close the distance slowly on my DK.

Hmm I'm not even considering gear yet. Will probably use medium though.

Im same as @Vapirko high ping means Dswing is too unreliable. Stamplar doesnt need an execute your jabs and rending slashes deal so much damage that your POTL will be your execute :)

I no longer run a gap closer on any class. They only work about 15% of the time.

Agreed the simply miss if people are riding a horse or sometimes just running too fast, streaking. It’s insanely easy for NBs to cloak out of a gap closer as well. In a 1v1 it’s pretty much a wasted skill slot except in niche cases like NMG.

I can barely get them to even activate properly. It will start the animation and stop if there is even the slightest height difference in terrain.

Sucks that Werewolves are stuck with it lol

I used a gap closer as my snare and to guarantee fracture when wearing nmg, and as a way to reach out and touch ranged players when I didn’t have expedition and only had reverb as a cc. If you can fit it in it’s a nice luxury. However in a 1vx or small scale scenario it’s benefit is mostly diminished because everyone is coming after you so it’s typically better to have a skill that will help you there. Because of potl and jabs being class abilities you can get away with having two flex spots. Think of it as an offensive version of repentance. Repentance gives you nothing unless an enemy dies. Gap closers allow you to move around a battle space quicker, unless all the enemies are on top/chasing you.

In regards to 2h vs dw as your primary dmg bar, 2h is great for follow up passive increasing damage on your DBoS, and the battle rush passive giving awesome regen after securing a kill, which is arguably easier with available skills like executioner available to you. Even without that skill you can still benefit from these passives which are among some of the best for dmg and sustain. Also you can use poisons for added pressure.
Dw on the other hand has its benefits of being a bit more fluid, with more instances of dmg ticking with enchants, rending heavy cancels into jabs or nado. We don’t get the best use of its passives because our cc is bleh and we don’t have an immobilize, but having jabs on our dw bar makes those bleeds tick really hard against blocking targets by way of arsenic spear passives. You have a little more customization being able to take advantage of differing weapon types and traits to round out some worth while bonuses nicely. The biggest drawback to dw front bar in my opinion is you are locked into 2h back bar. It’s not that big of a problem, but it leaves you more one dimensional, where as 2h front bar opens up bow, sb, dw and even resto back bar to take advantage of some nice utility.

Ultimately, neither is particularly better, but I have been having more fun and success running 2h as my primary dmg bar here recently.

Yeah I switched from 2h/bow to dual wield/2h. I miss some range utility but I feel comfortable with rally on my back bar (although watch high lag situations) and I'm still using stampede although I'm not sure its needed. Nice if someone is trying to kite me around. I'd just debate whether you should chase that person.

The big thing for me is trending slashes heal plus added pressure in a world where major evasion exists. I also run all axes. Dont have master axes yet and wont chase them until I see next PTS.

I now run quick cloak in place of shuffle for my speed since i dont have hasty retreat, and I'm still running FM for root and snare removal. Troll king on a nord with steed mundie. Between FM, rending slashes, vigor, and my health recovery; can have some great heals , and I needed the mobility to stay on target's.
